Ok here's a somewhat devious thought? Does anyone know if you could hypothetically pre-order a Verizon iPhone with a store delivery and then when you get to the store tell them you changed your mind and want "device only?"

Or would VZ try to keep a line activation fee even if you never actually activate the line? Or worse yet would Apple just tell you you have to return the whole package and not let you buy the phone?

I really want to use the phone with Tmobile, but wouldn't mind getting a VZ version.

Long lines for sure

The question being, will you have to wait in a long line or not? Curious how quickly that second line will move.

I would suggest that you will probably wait in long lines at the stores. Activating a phone in store takes the same amount of time whether it's a pickup order or a walk-in order. The pick up order may actually take longer if they have to sort through and find your particular phone instead of grabbing one off the pile.

I think there are two big stores in Orlando. We'll be staying in Ormond Beach and the closest Apple Store to us is in Altamonte Springs (like 20 minutes away from Orlando). I called the Store and they said I can pick the closest store to me when I pre-order my phone and then I can come in on the 19th at any time and pick it up! I was also thinking about maybe having it delivered at the hotel we're staying at, but we're leaving the 20th so I would hate if something happens and it can't be delivered the 19th and then I have no phone! at least at the apple store I can go there myself and pick it up.

Awesome. We're checking out the 21st and have to drive all the way back to Houston, stopping to visit and pick up our dog from family friends in New Orleans. I won't be in Houston until possibly the 23rd.

No contract preorder?

Can you preorder an AT&T or Verizon iPhone 6 with no-contract price? I only see it listed for Tmobile.

Off subject I guess, but when reviewing the iPhone 6 series on the Apple site I see that the 5c is now deprecated to the 8GB model only.

Does this mean that the 5c is now end of life from a model perspective in line with the 5s? I thought they were targeted at a different customer segment?

Does anyone know what the differences are between the various models?

I figure the TD-SCDMA are for China, but what is the difference between:

Model A1549 (GSM)*
Model A1522 (GSM)*

Different display manufacturer or just screen size?

Also from the model numbers it looks like Apple packed CDMA and GSM into the same hardware. Truely a world phone except the China models. I then assume the GSM vs CDMA means one gets a sim the other doesn't, and possible slightly different firmware.

Seriously folks, you're painting a giant "mug me" on you if you pickup on release date in a store. Have it delivered. FedEx will leave a package at your door if you leave a signed note with phone number and printed name on it asking them to. I do it all the time. My MBP was waiting for me at my door when I came home from work. It comes in a plain brown box, so unless some one takes the time to inspect the shipping label they aren't going to know what it is. But, YMMV based on neighborhood.

Even a LOW INFOMATION voter should know the day the iPhones come out. If packages were left on a door step and the Fed Ex guy was followed, it would be simple to pick up a few.

I think so. The ATT store is now in the process of getting rid of their existing stock of 16GB iPhone 5C. My mother went into a store this morning to purchase a blue 5C for my father, who hasn't been on contract for 2 years, and that's what she was told, so she got the 16GB for free. Neither of them are on ATT NEXT, but they are on a shared plan--he's been using my old iphone 4, and she got a 32GB iPhone 5 at launch two years ago.

One is the iPhone 6 and the other ist the iPhone 6 Plus.

CDMA is the VZ phone, GSM is the Tmobile /ATT phone. CDMA costs Apple more so they leave it out of ATT&tmobile phones. All have SIM cards as LTE uses SIM. The VZ phone will work for ATT/Tmo but not vice versa.

I was in line with reservations for iPhone 4. The line without reservations/new customers line got their iPhones two hours earlier.

Countdown (and not much of anything else) on the wireless.att.com site.

For the iPhone 4, I thought I was being slick by picking up my pre-order in store. Boy was I wrong! The UPS guy could have delivered the phone twice in the time it took me to pick up my phone from the local Apple store. I arrived 10 minutes before the Apple store was set to open (why would I arrive earlier? I had a pre-order, right?) and found the line stretched through the mall and out into the parking lot. Grand total of time it took me to pick up my iPhone 4? 12 HOURS!!!! As the article states, this time, there will be two separate lines. This does nothing but organizes the line a bit more that the single line for the iPhone 4 launch. You have to take into consideration that splitting up the lines doesn't increase the amount of employees that are there to assist customers so this could end up taking the same amount of time as a single line if customers from both lines are taken into the store at the same time. I can see where picking up your phone would make sense if they took care of the pre-order line first. I'm not willing to take my chances so i'll be ordering mine online. Did it for the iPhone 5 and didn't regret it. Also, if I remember correctly, I was able to leave a signed note (printed from my order page) for the UPS guy to leave the phone at my front door if I wasn't at home.

We live in Tokyo but are hitting Honolulu on sept 22 for our wedding week. If we were to preorder, how long can the apple store hold on to our phones? Could we pick up on the 22nd?

edit - moving to Hawaii later this year and worried the phones we want won't be available without a wait if we don't preorder

I made the mistake of picking up in store the day of the iPhone 4 launch. Even though I had pre-ordered, I still had to wait in line for about 4 hours to get the phone. Just get it shipped to your house -- you might even get it early.
I'm going to be four hours away from my house. I'll give store pickup a try.

Not sure how long they'll hold it but you will need a US Credit card with US billing address to order from the US online store.

Anyone know if "reserving iPhone for pick up" requires entry and payment using a CC, or just name and Apple ID?

Or is it more like here's a #, thank you, come on in Friday morning and pick one up!

its pretty good at the response rate in which Apple can get these done..

Apple flooding the market with iPhone 6's, poking a big tongue at everyone else. :p

If the preorders are all paid for store pick up it shouldn't take that long to go through them. I don't remember the iPhone 4 preorder being paid for prior to launch, but I was also in and out in about 30 minutes, but I did get there an hour before the store opened.

Not a problem - I'm here on visitor visa in Tokyo and still have all my US information.
