So when does Apple plan to actually announce that pre-orders start at 12:01?

They won't announce it. But that's when they'll start. They always have. Although I'll be checking at 12:01 Eastern just in case they pull a fast one.

I did the store pick up last year. What you guys should know is that while you might have to be in line for a bit, you are sure to leave with a phone, I believe I was in and out in about an hour. This is not the same as going to a store blindly and hoping to score a phone.

With that said, does any body know if it's possible to go to the apple store and do a upgrade transfer to get the phone? Or has anybody done anything similar in the past? Thanks.

I did this last year (not on launch day but soon after) and they had the software all set up to deal with that. So YAY!

How long do you think it will take after Pre-orders start for them to sell out? I'm just hoping that they won't run out super fast because I already sold my iPhone 5. haha

This is intriguing if it's a real order and you pay in advance so there's definitely a phone waiting. Yea the iPhone 4 reservation thing was a joke. Everybody who had reservations got in one line, and everybody else got in another line, and all they did was take one customer from each line at a time, going back and forth between the two. Never had to show reservation number, nothing. And both lines were about the same length, I waited 7 hours. We were pretty pissed when we got to the front of the line and saw what they were doing.

Does it really? or does it start at 12:01AM Pacific - worldwide? I'm from the UK and checked Australian and Japanese apple store which should be allowing pre-orders (just for curiosity) but they are still disabled there...

some german tech site said 1 after midnight, but now i am not sure anymore :-/ last year it started an hour later with the UK together

---

lol the german store is about to crash and its not even live

That's Grrrreat! Are you ordering for home delivery online with a new 2 year contract?

New 2 yr contract w/in-store pick up. Don't want the neighborhood brats in get to my phone before I get home. The downside is that depending on inventory, I may not get my phone on launch day if I don't get my order in at 12:01 AM. That happened to me with iPhone 5 pre-order.

Also, found out this year ATT is charging a $40 upgrade extortion fee.

It should have been available in all stores since August

I think I may have mixed things up. Edge is not available in store. And perhaps Next is for existing AT&T but not new ones? I inquired about switching from Verizon to AT&T and that is the information I was given, and this was only about 2 weeks ago, but I don't remember the exact date, that's why I was asking. Thanks for the reply.

Ummm, opt for delivery

Seriously folks, you're painting a giant "mug me" on you if you pickup on release date in a store. Have it delivered. FedEx will leave a package at your door if you leave a signed note with phone number and printed name on it asking them to. I do it all the time. My MBP was waiting for me at my door when I came home from work. It comes in a plain brown box, so unless some one takes the time to inspect the shipping label they aren't going to know what it is. But, YMMV based on neighborhood.

It's been a while since I did pre-order with in-store pick up ... do they charge your card at that time or when you pick it up ?

If you ask them to leave it at the door, you have a much greater chance of having it stolen.

You are better off asking FedEx / UPS to hold it at their distribution center and picking it up there.

Forget that. Did that with the iPhone 4. Had my phone bought and paid for and still had to wait in line 3 hours before they opened and then wait in that line for over 3 hours after they opened to pick the stupid thing up. Why bother? Ordering online with delivery gets it to you the exact same day and you don't have to leave the house and stand in a freakin line.

Some carriers won't leave the package at your door if no one is home.

Anyone know if start a new AT&T Next plan during the pre-order, or if the AT&T Next option is only for existing Next customers. I plan to get it using the Next program and assumed that I could just sign up for a new Next plan while I was pre-ordering, but know I'm second guessing that maybe that option is only for people who are already have their phone through the program.

Did Apple do this for the iPhone 5s too ? Pickup?

I thought it was only accessories they left them at the door.

From Apple site

With AT&T Next, you can buy iPhone 6 for as low as $0 down and from $27.05 per month. Available for existing AT&T customers replacing a phone on their account with a new iPhone. Prices will vary based on model and capacity.

You are magic. They didn't do preorder for the 5s and didn't offer in store pick up at launch
