I wonder why they do it for some events but not all?

Tim Cook said this in his email to employees following the last event -

"We made these announcements in Town Hall here in Cupertino this morning. It is a small venue which limits our ability to show the keynote live across campus and to other locations as we like to do. The event is now available to stream on apple.com, so I hope you will take time to watch it."

I think in the case of Town Hall based events, this is the answer to that question.

I wish Apple would leave this channel up all th time. Sometimes it's nice to go back and watch older events.

Cough cough... I'm feeling a little sick boss. I think I am going to work from home so that if I do have something, I don't spread it. Cough cough...

Call friends, party at my place. Bring some popcorn this will be fun.:D

Confirmed: :)

It's marketing

If they would do it every time it wouldn't be that special anymore. Look at the comments here: "AWESOME", "Thank you Apple". It is ridiculous.

Great, I can sit down and watch it with a curry and a beer. :D

I hope the stream holds up better than the one from WWDC though.

I actually did not have any problems with that event. My stream was smooth all the way through. I did read that some had a few hic up issues which would suck.

This is what the town hall looks like:

When I was at university, we had lecture halls smaller than that - they had 3 ceiling mounted cameras pointing at the stage, with a remote edit suite. There's no real reason why Apple can't do the same. Blaming it on the auditorium size is a bit silly of them.

It's always on a Tuesday, when I'm on my way home from uni, when I am in the Underground so I won't be able to watch. Boo :(

I follow Apple Keynotes in my iPhone Podcasts and go back and watch old keynotes a few times a week when bored. I still get excited watching them even though the tech is now old.

maybe that location has poor connectivity to their internet infrastructure, which makes a life stream more challenging.

They still filmed it, how could you possibly think it had anything to do with camera placement? It probably lacked space for serious streaming equipment.

This is all about the iPad. The MacBook's will be getting a hardware update but it won't be the focus of this event.

Hmm, not so sure about that. This is a reasonably big venue they've booked complete with big hands on area. More to the point it'd seem to make a lot of sense to intro the Pro OS X stuff along with the iPad's. Helps push the (correct) message that for most people iPad's are now acting as computers, reinforces the ecosystem message and if they really are going A7 / A7X in the retina Mini and iPad respectively gives a big boost to that 'desktop class' line.

If Mavericks is having its day in the sun today I'd expect Mac Pro's (possibly with a 4K Cinema Display) and Macbook Pro's to be featured alongside it, especially with the battery life and other improvements Haswell offers (and a possible transition to Thunderbolt 2 in the MBP alongside the MP). Remember Mavericks is, effectively, the 'fix' to the performance issues they've had with Retina displays which is why I suspect we've had to wait until now for Haswell-based refreshes. iPad and iPad Mini (with and/or without Retina) are surely nailed on. Wouldn't expect any time for the Mac Mini although it'll likely get a quiet performance bump with Mavericks and Apple TV will only feature if it's got a worthwhile update or something new to show off.

Great news, I hate it when I have to basically ignore the whole web and watch out for spoilers.

My body is ready!

I hope the stream works well without any interruptions. Last time it was awful.
I will watch it on my AppleTV but still haven't decided if I am buying anything.
