TV is the worst thing Apple makes. It's glitchy, inconsistent, confusing, and just doesn't work most of the time I try it. Old units, new units, doesn't matter, they're all irritating to use.

My $40 Roku has been utterly flawless, still allows me to AirPlay (and Android friends can cast), and oh yeah it's $40.

The only app that I haven't been able to get to work right on said Roku is, surprise surprise, the Apple TV app. No sound when attempting to play movies. Never been able to get it to work.

It isn’t that bad, but it isn’t good either. A comprehensive redesign is needed. I doubt this article points at one though.

Sometimes I wonder if Apple has any quality control at all, or if Apple itself even uses its own products.
With parental controls enabled, it is not possible to browse the AppleTV+ offering. At least it was like that in the past and probably still is. LOL

"push customers..."
No stop right there. Stop yourself if you caught yourself saying that. Breathe, start over.

The "iTunes Movies" and "iTunes TV Shows" apps are going away on the Apple TV box. Instead, users can buy/rent movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app. That functionality has been available for years.

The "Movies" and "TV Shows" tabs on the iTunes iOS app is going away. Users can buy/rent movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app. That functionality has been available for years.

They're just removing duplicate functionality. The Apple TV app is where they want people to buy/rent movies and TV shows.

They're removing the wrong duplicate though?

If anything, much like the number of columns on the main AppleTV (device) screen, this should be a user selectable setting.

If I prefer the Movies and TV Shows apps, greatly prefer them in fact, leave me the frak alone?

Why does Apple have this weird fetish to force users into less usable / useful UI/UX?

For how much people complained about iTunes being too messy/hard to use, you'd think Apple would have learned from that and wouldn't continually make AppleTV app less and less usable, to the point where many actively avoid using it at all?

While I enjoy using the standalone apps so I can bypass the Apple TV+ screen, it is a bit redundant to have it in both places. I only if they would let us completely delete the podcasts, music, arcade and fitness app.

I just wish these media apps/companies would stop showing stuff I already own, and make it easier to find stuff in the genres I like to watch. I watch a lot of anime, but they don’t have a section for it. The old iTunes app let me fine tune my search for it before.

The first version and most of the versions of the TV app have not been on par with what iTunes had for features.

Another redesign…it’s like they keep trying until they get it right.
And things just keep getting worse. More Apple TV+ ads taking up the majority of the screen. Unsupported/missing paid channels (what's the deal with that? Is there some strange licensing thing with Apple and like Max and other that aren't available to get through Apple?).

I love the Up Next list. It's the main part of why I use the Apple TV instead of a FireTV or Roku. But, it's getting completely ruined by Apple's continued "revamping" of it, which is really them just adding self-serving features (BUY! RENT! GET!) and not just WATCH something that I can watch without paying $20.

That giant middle section above everything is the stupidest design flop I've ever seen, yet they keep it.

The tv app is not available in countries with no Apple TV+. No problems, there are better, free alternatives.

I invested heavily in purchased movies and shows with apple and have been astonished how buggy and confusing their app is. Hopefully this consolidation helps. Most confusing of all is I have a couple tv series that no matter what, when you select them in ‘up next’ the app continues to take you too other apps (like Hulu or Amazon) to watch them despite the fact that I’ve purchased them with apple.

The surprising part was that when I finally got the case elevated and spoke to someone about it, they said it was a known issue with some series and can not be fixed due to how they were originally uploaded.

And for goodness sake, please add a Kids or Family section so my young children can actually access the great Apple TV shows that are made for them.
Yes, and the option to make profiles kid specific. Kinda like YouTube Kids idea. A safe space that adults can trust kids in.

So we've gone from breaking up apps to now consolidating again. Music and Podcasts merging when?

Can we get 4K TV shows on the iTunes Store while we’re at it apple? Maybe with iTunes Extras? Baffling that it hasn’t happened years ago

Since Best Buy is going to stop selling physical movies, Apple needs to beef up Itunes Movies to compete with kaleidescape bluray quality, like Sony Core. Make a M2 Apple tv Model

when I get home I want to relax and have fun, I don’t want to watch politically correct shows, stuff about gender, etc. I just want to have fun with my family, we are not perfect Apple, we don’t want to be politically perfect, we are just a happy family living in a suburb. Also I don’t understand how in 2023 “music” isn’t capable of having music videos, live performances etc in a good quality. It seems Apple want me to hear music while my huge TV is showing an album cover, music videos are in stereo pcm.

I've stopped using TV.app (macOS) coz I strongly dislike the "HDR" effect being applied to my movies.

It automatically lightens shadow detail based on the intensity of ambient light; can test this by shining a light into my MacBook Air's webcam ... I can see the gamma or whatever adjust realtime. Very annoying.

Only way to disable it is to run off battery power.

Roku is just a spy device. Even tracks how many times you pick up the remote. And sends it all to Google. Might as well just bend over.
Well all they’ve learned from my Roku is I watch a crap ton of baseball and hockey. I guarantee they know more from my computer.
