I honestly didn’t understand any of what I just read 😩
TL;DR, ....
There's an Apple TV streaming box (hardware)
Apple TV app in iOS
Apple TV+ streaming service that often gets the '+' omitted when being referred to, adding to the confusion.

There may be a 4th "Apple TV" for all I know

Ugh, that's disappointing. The dedicated apps are faster and much easier to navigate.
Absolutely. And I often find that sales are not really showing up in the AppleTV app, but they are easy to find and peruse in the dedicated apps.

agreed. Are they talking about the app thats on the iphone/ipad or are they talking about the apple tv OS that's on our apple tv boxes? The pic shows an appleTV box and remote, suggesting that its some kind of major change to the appleTV OS
I think they meant the Movies app & TV Shows app. I’ve seen those on my Apple TV (box) lol. I don’t know why they had to confuse everyone with, “Apple plans to remove its standalone ‌Apple TV‌ apps that are available for renting and purchasing TV shows and movies”.

**** written article guys.
The headline makes it sound like Apple is going to remove ALL apps from Apple TV which is not the case.

WTF is this even talking about? Apps on the Apple TV, or the stupid "TV" app on iOS?

Apple's branding sucks. Not as much as Google's, but it still sucks donkey balls.

It's about the Apple TV App on the Apple TV (device) that currently allows you to watch Apple TV+. Apple will combine the current "TV Shows" and "Movies" apps into the Apple TV App on the Apple TV.

This. The headline is very confusing to read and understand imo.
9to5 Mac's headline is a lot better "

Report: Apple planning revamped TV app, will discontinue dedicated iTunes movie and TV show apps"

Apple TV is the most confusing streaming app out of all. Also I personally didn’t like a single Apple Original even after giving the most highly rated ones a chance.
Have you watched Tehran? It’s one of the best shows currently available anywhere — IMHO, of course.

I’m an old man that doesn’t like change I guess. I want the ATV app to just have all their shows, and the library of content I purchased or rented like it does now. If I want to see Netflix shows, I just want to use their app and that’s it. Fragmentation is my preference!

"Netflix app syndrome" - it's a push for getting apps inside a single interface.

By doing this it may force the apps outside their interface ecosystem to be inside via the back door, as all content you sub to will automatically be in there, whether the provider originally wanted it or not.

How? Going forward, over time, those apps outside the new interface (like Netflix) will look less and less relevant and odd, meaning they'll face more pressure to bite the bullet and eventually participate to stay relevant.
