Piano black would be nice...if only to stop that stupid EverythingApplePro guy thinking Apple listened to his idea and then made them matte. Talk about a pompous a*seh*le!

I have been asking for black earphones since the very first ipod. I am not at all interested in the earpods. Doesn't matter any more ... I bought another brand.

Wow talking about putting lipstick on a pig... those things can still only get you 255kbps while the jack can get you lossless 999kbps... but the gullible masses will still spread their wallets and fork out money because the marketers have done a good job. At least less people will be sporting women’s hygene products poking out of their ears
More accurately, the gullible masses will be told they can hear a difference between 255 and 999 kbps using earbuds while outside, working out, in the car, etc (since someone who can actually tell the difference in a quiet, controlled environment also knows that it’s absurd to do audiophile listening sessions with earbuds).

Otoh, the masses would likely appreciate a second color choice of earbuds already so popular that there have been frequent stocking shortages. That’s my kind of savory, bacony, delicious, desirable, satisfying, umami-filled pig.

Any of those changes on their own would be enough for some to upgrade. But with color, grip, and wireless charging I think many will.

Their earpods and airpods are useless as far as I'm concerned. The slick service and stupid design make them uncomfortable to wear and they slip out of my ears way too easily. I fail to see their allure at all. But rather than fix the usability issues Apple does what Apple always does. They change the color and pretend they did a really big design change! I want function not form...
Why are you speaking as if they have already been announced and released? How do you know they won’t tweak the design slightly for a better fit? While it sucks they don’t fit for you the fit for WAY more people than the very old design that made everyone’s ears raw after 10 minutes of use. Plus if anything AirPods are even a better fit for some because no cord. My girlfriend for example complained about the wired EarPods falling out and the AirPods fit much better for her.

That would be pretty. Even though I’m more than happy with my Jabra 65t and I’m unlikely to buy. At least the black ones won’t look like toothbrushes sticking out of your ear.

Whether they come out in this color or just white, I can't wait to snag a pair. I got my current AirPods during the original release, and I'm starting to have expected lifespan related issues with them. Just need them to last a bit longer until the new version comes out.

My guess...there will be two versions...Both will be in matte white...ala Apple Pencil matte white...and a black version...

The original will be sold at $149, with no changes except the colors...And will still be sold with the non-wireless charger...but you will be able to buy an updated wireless case for $49. Apple loves the $49 price point for accessories...

The $199 or higher version will feature the wireless case as standard...and may have better speakers and maybe some kind of water resistance...Given the size limitations, and the fact that they don't want to compete against the Apple Watch, in health features, I doubt it will have anything like a step counter or some other kind of tracking...

"coating" sounds bad. White plastic doesn't flake like something that is just coated most certainly will... Well well, I still use headphone jacks so no worries here.

I’ve never understood the fuss over a set of earbuds that sound so meh.
Because you won’t find any wireless ear buds that work so well with all your devices and sound wise? They are fine...i value my hearing where i won’t want overpowering sound each day.

Good sound doesn’t mean overpowering sound. It means high fidelity to the source material.

I experienced that with JayBirds too, which I also loved at the time. Maybe I just sweat too much because there's always one AirPod that sounds lower than the other after time... :(

It happens occasionally to mine, but I just clean the speaker grill thoroughly with alcohol and Q-Tips and let them dry, and the muffled one comes back. I think that the speaker grill gets completely clogged with wet ear wax over time.

I sweat a lot too. I had pretty much resigned myself to sweating through a regular supply of $7 gel buds, but my AirPods have been great. (Except that the battery life is getting too short for my runs, especially outdoors in the winter.)

Black? I'm interested.

Are Airpods just Bluetooth? Do they work with any Bluetooth device or just iPhone? And what BT version are they? 5.0?

Maybe best to reserve judgement until the thing’s actually released.

Well, @SoN1NjA said that Apple rarely released black products, not that they never released anything in black.

Right now it comes to my mind the black MacBook you posted, the Mac Pro trashcan, and the iPhone 7. Maybe I miss one or two more devices, but still Apple hugely prefers white color. And after a lot of years choosing the Space Grey color, I'm starting to like silver on MacBook Air, 11" iPad Pro, and even the white iPhone 8 (although mine is black).

The only thing Apple has preferred white for are Mac, iPod and iPhone accessories. Largely because the white earbuds were iconic and part of their branding. The Airpods would fall into this category, but if you look at Apple's current lineup, there's no way you could say Apple hugely prefers white. Virtually none of their non-accessory products are white.

What colour are the keyboards on Macbooks? Black. What colour is the Apple TV? Black. Bezels on iMac, iPad, watch, Face ID iPhones? Black. Is the new Mac Mini closer to white or black? Black. The big deal with AirPods is that they are a iPhone accessory, that has traditionally been white, but that hasn't applied for the rest of their lineup for a long time.

It’s worth noting that AirPods are out of stock at virtually every Target location, as well as Best Buy and Walmart. I think that’s very indicative.

If you think so and want blacks for that reason, then that's fine

I think a colour doesn't threaten a person's masculinity/femininity, and their genuinity (or lack of it) will show through whatever colours they choose to wear
I’m waiting for the Brony edition. Apple jack color or rainbow dash would be ideal.
