So he has no real inside information he's just guessing. Why again do rumor sites treat this guy like is word is gold?
He burned you last time. In November when he predicted the 4-inch A9 phone, you said:
So basically he/she knows nothing and is just guessing. How is this newsworthy?

This reminds me of that clown Gene Munster who predicted the 5C would be a "cheap" phone and would not have a camera or Siri. Seriously these guys are clowns.

Magnesium or titanium makes more sense if Apple wants to stay true to their mission of lighter, stronger and thinner.

Lots of possibilities are created with an all glass casing…

  1. To the edge display
  2. On the edge display
  3. Rear display (smaller, perhaps.. but for what use? Time display? Countdown for photo timer?)
  4. Digitizers can be anywhere on the device. (Edge/rear gesture detection, if able to filter out unintended gestures)
  5. Ability to remove ALL physical buttons… Localized Taptic feedback on the edges where volume/power would be. These buttons could be hidden and shown as needed, if there is a wraparound display. 3D Touch enabled home button would also be slick.

If they do end up with this design, they will need to make the glass strong as hell, stronger than whatever is in Corning's current lineup. Apple needs to address device fragility. If they nail that, it would be a huge differentiator.

Also, how do you address the feel in hand? 6(s)(+)'s are so slippery without a case. I could only imagine that transitioning to an all glass case would make things even more slippery.

I've found the glass backs less slippery than the aluminum finishes.
Stil... I hate the idea of another glass back. A tiny rock can still scratch the front screen. I have little hope that the glass back will survive even one drop intact.

I still have hope that a liquid metal case will happen.

Looking more and more like the iPhone 7 is shaping up to be the most underwhelming iPhone release ever.Anyone would be a fool to buy it considering the dramatic change in 2017
I'll be a fool, then. I'm ready to upgrade my 6. If the 2017 model is a super amazing upgrade over the 2016 then I'll consider upgrading again, but I have a feeling it won't be.

Pretty sure he's one of the 'controlled leakers'. He's been pretty consistent with providing information. Wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

He isn't guessing. He often knows what Apple is going to do via connected sources.

Exactly. His "track record" is definitely the best so when he speaks, it's a good idea to at least consider it. People don't have to believe it, but anyone looking at his past predictions would notice a good amount (not all) did come true. His prediction that there would be 2 iPads released in the same year (iPad 3, iPad 4) is the one that really sticks in my head.

That isn't what happens at all. He isn't guessing. He has great sources. Him and Marc Gurman are the most accurate and respected when we are talking about accurate Apple leakers.

They are accurate enough and have shown to have some good sourced.
Mac Otakara is also pretty accurate. I've never compared the three, but they are my favorite sources.

iPhone 7S... S for Screen.
It still makes me cringe that I have to wait 2 years before this comes out and that they won't put it into the 7 because they are not fast enough to catch up to Samsung AMOLED.. Or maybe they are going to release an iPhone 6SE this year?

Apple doesn't design AMOLED screens. I doubt Apple wants to get into that game either.
AMOLED has a shorter life span compared to LCD. That doesn't matter much to me since I don't keep my phone for more than 2 years. Apple has probably been waiting until AMOLED matures.

Do we really think that Apple would either (1) not release an updated design for 2016, extending the iPhone 6 design across three years instead of the average 2, or (2) release updated designs in both 2016 and 2017? Both options seem unlikely to me.

That said, I always thought that the glass design was more beautiful on the iPhone than the aluminium design. For one reason or another, while I think the aluminum back of the iPad looks fantastic, it hasn't worked as well for me on the iPhone.

Minor visual update this year, major visual update/redesign next year in time for the tenth anniversary of the iPhone.

This makes sense. If true it would definitely tempt me to upgrade from my 6 instead of waiting for the iPhone 8.

Glass looks better than aluminium but breaks easily, isn't there another material that feels like glass but is more shatterproof? Isn't ceramic more durable?

I don't know about that. I had an iPhone 4 and never had an issue. I traded it in for a 6plus--the first one overheated (it literally felt like it was going to catch fire in my hand) and looked like it bent in the process and its replacement has just started randomly shutting down and giving me a black screen with an Apple logo before rebooting. Thankfully I have AppleCare, but still this aluminum model has been more fragile than my glass iPhone.

For real. Sounds like iPhone 7 should be called 6se. Same design for the 3rd straight year... Pass.
Apple hasn't announced a name for their 2016 flagship phone.

I'm interested in the dual camera, and I'm ready to move on from my 6 plus. So I'll likely be upgrading this year. If Apple does announce a new phone next year that totally blows me away, maybe I'll upgrade again. I'm not saying anything definite (because I don't yet know the features of next years iPhone--or even this year's). Next year i may be impressed by Apple's redesign, but willing to hold on to my 2016 model iPhone for another year,

Flat edges, no antenna bands or camera bump—take my money. A 4" model or larger screen with smaller bezels would be perfection.

It was a bad idea then and it's still a bad idea now. In 2017, it will continue to be a bad idea.

Also, you Ming-Chi Kuo haters are talking out of your behind; the guy has been spot-on nine times out of ten. More than I can say about anyone that I have ever seen post in these forums (myself included).

Won't be metal at all and here is why;

There are two reasons why Apple is going to all glass like the S7.
1. Wireless charging. Any metal blocks wireless charging, ergo no metal case.
2. Because of wireless charging and the large wire coils, NFC for Apple Pay will need to be moved (and not limited to just the little Apple logo area on the back). And again, metal blocks NFC, so an all glass back is needed.

The only way I managed to live with glass-backed phones is by putting a silicone case (transparent) on them. Slippery glass is slippery. The only time I cracked my iPhone was when I fell off a scooter and broke more things than just the phone. (It still worked perfectly, which couldn't be said about some of my body parts.)

Smartphone are a mature product now. Consumers are fairly locked into the OS they use now, either because of the $ spend on an app library or because it's what they know and are unwilling to take on the learning curve of a different OS. I think the casing type isn't going to push a meaningful # of consumers to either "switch" or "stay" with whatever OS they use. So I think Kuo is wrong on that point.

Some consumers may not have the desire to upgrade phones now that they have to pay full price for them, so an all-new case might entice them. But Kuo never explains why Apple would present an all-new case in an "s" year. I can see a new screen, but cases only have the most minor of tweaks in an "s" year.

The iPhone 4 is a timeless design, but it was heavy. Now put all that glass on a 5 or 6" case. Yowza. Combine that with no headphone jack and a lot of people that run w/ their phones will hold on to their 6 or 6s for dear life. Hopefully Apple hasn't gone total "tin ear" on customers and Kuo is wrong again.

2017 is the 10 Year Anniversary of the iPhone. I mentioned this earlier but who reads every post in a 6 page thread?

Apple will want to come out swinging next year. Also, nothing is for certain in life. Apple made no promises that there will be a tick and tock cycle forever.

Every year there are rumors. Every year they turn out to be right as we watch the product launches without surprise.

What about no new phone in sept/oct and major release in June 2017? It would be the perfect anniversary ...
Also with iPhone 5 SE we've got something (partially) new in 2016.
Ok its uncommon, but not impossible.

That wouldn't be good for the stock. Something "new" has to be released this year. The SE falls short of this expectation so we'll get this transition iPhone to hold us over until next year's redesign. Apple will also have an opportunity to gauge market response to the elimination of the 3.5mm headphone jack.
