iPhone will be about the same for 3 years in a row if all the rumors are true. And before you say NAW IT GOT 3D TOUCH AND A BETTER CAMERA just look here --->

The 2017 model sounds really cool though. I'll get it for sure.

Will a glass phone crack when you drop it like the screen does? Will a glass phone be more durable than an aluminum one? Will there be kiosks at the mall replacing iPhone casings along with screens?

Also, how do you address the feel in hand? 6(s)(+)'s are so slippery without a case. I could only imagine that transitioning to an all glass case would make things even more slippery.
Actually I think it's the opposite. Glass wouldn't be as slippery as the aluminum. As least the 4/4s was not.

why do you keep posting this KGI stuff?? this guy is never right, NEVER.

Kuo is not OFTEN ACCURATE, I'm tired of this crappy trope.

Kuo issues a new rumor every single day; so having a few turn up true is almost a god damn sure thing hey.

Check out confirmation bias whole slew of echo chamber rumor sites; Kuo makes money of you being naive and desperate.

The very fact Kuo issues all sort of, Apple does this for this motivation, makes me think this person is taking the piss out of everyone all the way to the bank.

Kuo has made several accurate predictions:

- Many details about the iPhone 6s (Touch ID 2.0, 12MP camera, 16/64/128GB, 3D Touch, much more…)
- iPhone SE in first half of 2016
- New 9.7" iPad in first half of 2016
- Apple Pencil
- 17" MacBook Pro discontinued
- 12-inch MacBook
- 5-megapixel FaceTime cameras on new devices
- Apple Watch Sport in yellow & rose gold
- Apple Watch launching in 2015 with 8GB storage
- iPhone 5C Predicted to Replace iPhone 5, iPhone 4S Sales to Continue
- Many iMac rumors
- More…

"I will only by a phone that is completely shatterproof." Well, you aren't going to buy ANY phone. They all can shatter under the right conditions.

Lots of people demand aluminum or else. Lots of people want glass or else. Still OTHER lots of people want Liquidmetal or else. Apple should throw everyone for a loop and make the phone water resistant and the back out of wool. Then you could shrink the phone to whatever size you like by washing it in hot water.

I wonder if anyone has developed transparent wool technology?

AMOLED uses more power the LCD, especially for white. I wonder if that means a dark interface for mail on that iOS version? Also, you either sacrifice brightness (RGB) or gain graininess (RGBG).

Not likely. We'll see far more likely the "iPhone 7S" models replace their IPS LCD touchscreens with AMOLED touchscreens in 2017. Besides, given Apple's bad experience with the glass back on the iPhone 4 and 4S models, they may not go back to a glass back on future iPhone models.

iPhone 7S... S for Screen.
It still makes me cringe that I have to wait 2 years before this comes out and that they won't put it into the 7 because they are not fast enough to catch up to Samsung AMOLED.. Or maybe they are going to release an iPhone 6SE this year?

What about the 200+ times that person was wrong?
Do you realize how many things you report from that person? It's off the chart.
That he often repeats past rumors from other sources (that somehow magically become his!)
If you bat 20%, you're not usually called accurate.
Check the definition of accurate while your checking out what confirmation bias is.

It's not reporting what this slightly above average
PR expert / hack analyst that I object too. After all, rumor is your game.
It's the ridiculous characterization.

Also, even when someone else reported the correct news before Kuo, he still get the kudos later!

Also, If someone mentions Apple's motivation for actions
(done many many time in his "reports", using often basic marketing reasonings),
which there is no chance on earth they'd know about even if they knew what
was in the pipeline; because the leaker would then have to be a VP and up...
Considering how wrong Kuo is when predicting sales, I'm guessing there is no VP in his loop...
Then, I have to call most of that part spin, and nothing else.

Not going to get more into it because it's obviously HOPELESS.
This just makes this site, like many other rumor and news sites,
just being manipulated by not only pump and dumpers (on sales rumors)
But also fed a narrative by a PR experts/analyst (in that order).
Hunger for clicks IS a cruel master after all.

So are we really going to get a iPhone 6SS? This should happen in 2016. 2 year cycle Apple; not 3.

Probably says the person who got used to getting a new design every two years. It looks like Apple is doing what Intel just started, stretching things out an extra year (making minor modifications) to buy time for the next big thing/development. Something big is coming next year because there's too much smoke here for there to not be a fire. You'll have to make a big decision this year, go with something minor this year or wait another year for something major.

Well, it depends what they put into the phone. The double camera alone may be enticing enough for people to upgrade.
They might even put the true tone display into the Iphone, another major improvement.
We haven't heard of it, but they could even put the digitizer and variable refresh in the Pro into the phones (at least the big one).

Form factors are not the only reason for people to upgrade.
On paper, the 6S had some pretty impressive upgrades (a much faster processor, more RAM, significantly improved front and rear cameras, 3D Touch, more durable aluminum, improved Touch ID), but supposedly sales are sluggish and it was viewed as a "modest" update.

Hmmm,

#Antennagate
#Bendgate
#Chippinggate

Make them out of glass, that'll out-gate the #gates!!!

It might be liquidmetal's time to shine. It's stronger, lighter, I think it is even pretty transparent to radio signals. A problem with molding liquidmetal is it has to be done in a vacuum, but the company has entered a deal with another quite recently, to give it good tools to do so with larger parts, plus a site for mass production. In a year things should be jake. So...

Some of it may be supply. Samsung Display finally began giving Samsung Mobile priority in 2015 after years of treating it as just another customer like Apple. Maybe Samsung Display didn't have the capacity to produce enough for Apple, and with the uncertainty around Sharp (until its recent acquisition by Foxconn) Apple wasn't ready to pull the trigger.

Be careful about overreaching arguments FOR OLED. There are actually two things they have a harder time competing with LCD. One is useful life, as OLED will degrade faster than LCD. The other is energy use, especially when the background of most emails and very many websites is white, forcing more power to be used to create the white light.
Maybe that was true many moons ago.

However, since I'm not biased, by watching most of the recent Anandtech's reviews and seeing more durable devices with better screens and much better battery life than the latest iPhones, let me call BS on that one. I'm yet to see a modern OLED devices used by actual people having degradation issues. They are as frequent as smartphones exploding.

It's pretty clear that the biggest hit in battery life on newest iPhones comes from small batteries, nothing more. Hey, I don't blame Apple for that. Apple makes the best devices. I blame people wanting thinness at all costs.

You're overcharging the battery by using it while plugged in at 100% for long periods of time. This causes the battery to swell and press against the screen.

On your new battery, keep the charge between 40 to 80% while plugged in (yes, unplugging it at 80%) and run a charge cycle once a month from 20% to 100%. The battery will last much longer and won't swell.

Use the app below to help remind you.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened...again. Totally my fault, I admit. So I cant be mad at the phone..and I'm not. Just have this tendency, like some silly OCD habit of trying to kept it at 90-100% at all times. I even did this on my iPhone 5..had no idea at the time what was happening 2 years ago. Phone felt hotter than usual, charge was not as good, the screen was severely separating. This past Thurs night I noticed the phone felt really warm, a "LCD white blob" suddenly appeared top left of the screen...I lightly pushed it and it went away, THEN removing the leather case and saw the screen was slightly bulging. Exact same thing with my old 5 so I knew what was happening again. I took care of it before it got worse...Apple replaced it for free Friday morning.

I'm not repeating the same mistake again. Keeping it off the charger untilI really need it.

I'll try the app also, I have the watch. Thanks!

Lots of possibilities are created with an all glass casing…

  1. To the edge display
  2. On the edge display
  3. Rear display (smaller, perhaps.. but for what use? Time display? Countdown for photo timer?)
  4. Digitizers can be anywhere on the device. (Edge/rear gesture detection, if able to filter out unintended gestures)
  5. Ability to remove ALL physical buttons… Localized Taptic feedback on the edges where volume/power would be. These buttons could be hidden and shown as needed, if there is a wraparound display. 3D Touch enabled home button would also be slick.

If they do end up with this design, they will need to make the glass strong as hell, stronger than whatever is in Corning's current lineup. Apple needs to address device fragility. If they nail that, it would be a huge differentiator.

The biggest problem I have with your list is #3. A rear display and digitizers mean no cases. And people like their cases. In fact, customers are so well trained now to get a case to protect their phones, that Apple would most likely face an incredible uphill battle to get people NOT to use a case, especially if it's an all glass enclosure, which Apple is going to have a hard time convincing customers doesn't need a case. I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple Care go up in order to cover the increased repair costs. Of course cases could be possible, but then it would likely end up being a repeat of the hideous rubber baby bumper cases, and still do nothing to really protect the glass faces.

The next problem I have is #5. A physical button allows blind operation. The mute switch in particular is a hallmark of the iPhone, as is the home button. Could these be replaced? Sure, but it eliminates some of the convenience of owning an iPhone over others. At a minimum with Taptic feedback, I'd expect some kind or physical marker to provide a user blind orientation of the phone. And as long as that's there, it might as well be a physical button.

.... The other is energy use, especially when the background of most emails and very many websites is white, forcing more power to be used to create the white light.
That's why I'm predicting that a dark theme will be introduced this Summer or next, much like that used on the OLED-screened Apple Watch.

The 4 is my favourite iPhone. The 2017 iPhone with glass and hopefully the 3.5mm jack back once Apple copes flack for removing it will mean it could be an awesome phone . The 2016 will be a third year of the same design, risky for Apple, they can expect major sales drops . I have no interest in a 3rd version of the current design.

In addition to a completely new 7S in 2017, I would not be shocked if Apple released some kind of limited edition 10th Anniversary "Retro" model. I can picture them releasing the original iPhone size, design..the same looking model from 2007 but with 2017 internals - better screen and a front camera..faster than the original obviously - with some special 10th anniversary logo on the back.
