That wouldn't be good for the stock. Something "new" has to be released this year.
I agree, really uncommon.
But I start thinking this way because of many 2017-leaks and poor 2016-update info.
Also Apple has never done 3 'tik'...

Maybe is just the informations more secret now (as steve and cook said in 2012...) and we'll see a completely new 7 in october...

So all the cool **** is coming next year? What is coming 2016? Same ugly phone but imperceptibly thinner?
Between now and 2017, just pick yourself up any mid-to-top-shelf android phone and then in 2017, you'll already know what a glass-backed, AMOLED curved glass display phone is like. It will be less of a shock that way. :)

It won't be glass. It will be liquidmetal, which is a bulk metallic glass. Going glass only would be nothing new. Hell the S7 series is made of glass. Liquidmetal, I imagine, will look and feel different than glass.

This leaves me with several questions.

Will this redesign mean no more home button? (I hope so.) Touch ID will be featured in the screen itself.

What will the iPhone 7 feature? Thinner? Same thickness but more battery life? Essentially the iPhone 7, assuming this report comes true, will be a stop gap model to bridge between the 6S series and the new redesign in 2017. Seeing how important the iPhone is to Apple's revenue you must imagine they need to offer something special come fall regardless if the huge changes come in late 2017.

I agree about Liquidmetal. Or at least I hope they finally use it in the 10th anniversary iphone. I own 50,000 shares of LQMT! Hee hee hee

So are we really going to get a iPhone 6SS? This should happen in 2016. 2 year cycle Apple; not 3.

My understanding was that new design would arrive with th iPhone 7s. Or they could reserve it for the iPhone 8.

Relatedly, Apple are going to run into a problem with their iPhone naming sooner rather than later. iPhone 10s? iPhone 12? Can't see that happening. I hope it doesn't just become 'the new iPhone'.

This sounds like a dream, and am sure would sell like crazy!
Heck I most definitely plan on skipping 7 for this model.

iPhone 6 should hold until then.
Excited. :D

I think the iPhone should be made of chocolate. When they reach the end of useful life we eat them for a snack. I might have to buy a new one monthly though, not sure how long I could tote chocolate without having at least a nibble.
This is the stupidest thing I have ever read. Ever. You don't eat chocolate for a snack. You eat it for a treat.

2016: The year apple releases a phone virtually identical to one released in 2012 (iPhone 5) and 2014 (iPhone 6).

Huh, Apple?

Just making so many guesses that one or two actually comes true & everyone thinks he is a Apple God. So pathetic.

Totally agree. He makes predictions now, only to change them later to appear "right" and MR is all on his nuts.

why do you keep posting this KGI stuff?? this guy is never right, NEVER.

Is there some site that tracks how accurate he is (and other analysts)? I know he has had some accurate predictions. What are some examples where he has been wrong?

I am not disagreeing with you. I am just looking for same data on how accurate he has been.

The rendering looks amazing! I'll still be upgrading this year (I'm on the NON S cycle), but if that's what comes out for 2017 I'll upgrade again.

They should have done this for the iphone 7 this year. If the iPhone 7 looks similar to the current 6/6s, this may be the first year since the iPhone 3G that I skip it and wait until a redesign.

http://www.cultofmac.com/273923/ming-chi-kuo/ (Yes, I know it's from 2015)

Looking back at Kuo’s predictions for 2014

Take his 2014 roadmap — released at the beginning of the year — in which Kuo accurately predicted Apple’s entire product lineup for the year, including new lower-cost iMacs; new iPad Airs and Minis; the iPhone 6 line; and the Apple Watch lineup, with the then-controversial prediction that some models would cost several thousands of dollars.

The only thing he got wrong was an updated Apple TV set-top box with motion-tracking technology that would get rid of the need for a physical remote. Kuo also waffled about a dedicated App Store for the Apple TV, noting that “we don’t expect the iTV to debut before the TV ecosystem improves.” This might still be true, of course.

I'm hoping that just maybe all these 2017 rumors turn out to be for the iPhone 7, and we all get a nice surprise. I don't think I could handle an iPhone "6SS".

Unless there's a plot twist and Apple releases a new line of phones under a different name... Seriously though, this will be an interesting year for sure.

I just hope that replacing the screen won't be like the 4/4s. You literally have to take apart the whole phone to replace the screen vs. the 5/5s design, where I could replace a screen in 10 min.
