Everyone is so sure of a Thursday release date. What information has pointed to this- why is tomorrow (Tuesday) absolutely out of the question?
That's what I want to know. Though I'm only concerned about Lion and Lion only!

I really hope Apple don't sign the final death warrant for their pro market with this Mac Pro refresh. What with Final Cut Pro X, a seriously cut down Lion Server and no XServe, i think this may be the final nail in the coffin for the Apple Pro market![]()
Have you tried 128GB on current Mac Pros? No reason it shouldn't work, just don't think anyone has bothered to test and report. If they use LGA 2011 then it should be at least 128GB per CPU.

Well, we have an older Mac Pro with DDR2 slots... But we could in theory buy the current version and upgrade all slots to 16 GBs, true. That would be quite expensive though. It would probably be cheaper to simply have a Mac Pro option with 16 (dare I even ask for 32) slots. Plus, for what we do 128 GBs might soon turn out to not be enough. So, more upgradability in the future would be nice.
Cutting the cost to compete with what? iMac's?
Apple is not going to make an entry level tower. Consumer CPU's have no place in the Mac Pro line.
Since they are distributing digitally, and since GM is available, they could have started selling Lion starting July 2nd.
The only reason they wait is for developers to test Lion. Nothing else.

i7 processors are the same price as Xeon versions, same specifications except ECC memory support.
The much higher clock rate and better architecture are certainly an advantage for many workflows, but not when you can use all the processor power available. Memory performance and capacity is also much better on such a Westmere system.
if Lion was going to be released this week, on the 14th, I would think that the Lion page on apple.com would have been updated by now with this information instead of still saying "coming in July"
Really hoping these Mac Pros have a Fermi-based GPU!
What is the problem with your 12 core machine? Where is it failing?
I don't really care what they bring out since I'm not going to ever use Windows for my work. Screw that.

Would it? They released FCPX without preannouncing the date.

If they move the Mac Pro to the i7 it is the end of the Pro line at Apple.

But FCPX did have a demo at a keynote. As I recall the audience went wild (in a good way) before they went wild after release (in a bad way).FCPX also didn't have previews and demos at Apple keynote events
Quite unlikely - Apple's lineup is all ATI/Intel HD now except for the very old designs with Core 2 / 320M integrated graphics.
Fermi is great, but you'll not be seeing it with Apple OSX.

You must be new to Apple to say something like that.![]()
I won't consider one until they have the black bezel. Call me crazy, just looks cheap with the all aluminum surround.
