Come to think of it….This is a US lawsuit. The EU has way waaaaay stricter regulations AND punishments. Just saying…

"After the 2019 scandal about contractors listening to accidental ‌Siri‌ recordings"

Accidental my you-know-what!

Apple says that the Siri recordings being listened to was accidental yet states that the contractors were there to evaluate Siri so therefore could only do that by DELIBERATELY listening to Siri recordings, so which is it Apple?

The recordings were accidentally triggered. The listening was deliberate to assess the cause of the trigger. the only “scandal” was that Apple was using contractors instead of full time employees and they admitted that.

In this lawsuit those contractors were the “third parties”.

Interesting, will we find out that:

1) Apple did in fact allow recordings to go to advertisers (Edit for clarification: I doubt this!)

or

2) Are other apps, that have access to the microphone, sending info to advertisers

I am leaning towards #2.
It his both of these as it happened to me that I spoke about something to my girlfriend that nobody else knew about and within a few minutes I was shown an ad on my iPhone for that very specific thing.
Apple claiming innocence here simply will not wash, Tim Cook has to go and soon!

That is not true and has never been true, look up something called Echelon which I uncovered before the internet was a thing and my dad who worked with the secret squirrels tried to convince me was not a thing.
You want us to look up something with a generic name that you discovered before the internet existed? And that is relevant to this how?

I just wish SIRI could handle simple requests, like playing a track from my favorites in Apple Music. Instead, it frequently tells me there is no such app.
Tell me about it. I use Siri to play my Apple Music playlists that I have numbered such as I have one called My 1970's playlist and My 1980's playlist etc and if I ask for anything other than the 1980s one I get the response that no such playlist exists and if I ask for the 1980's one I get Meatloaf playing which I do not have that song on any playlist.
Tim Cook needs to be fired as he is beyond useless in my view.

So...a lawsuit based on human brain making non existent associations for which the court found no evidence is worth 95 MILLION dollars. Go go lawyers I guess?
Actually there was enough evidence to precede as the case was allowed to go further after it was refiled due to not including specific examples which was then done.
There are countless proof that this happens including a private conversation for a very very very specific thing I was talking to my girlfriend about then a few minutes later I got that very very very specific thing shown on my phone as an advert.

Cue the Apple apologists who always defend Tim Cook's unethical actions whenever a lawsuit story arises...
Yup! I've been saying it for long enough that Tim Cook needs to be fired as regardless of any unethical behaviour he may have done, he in my view is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

There have been zero new products under him that were 100% his and were not the result of projects that Steve Jobs released or started but did not get the time to release apart from the Apple credit card and Apple Cash both of which are failures as more than 5 years later we still have no Apple Cash or Apple Card outside of the US with no signs they ever will be released out of the US.
Even if they were released then by the time they are it will be too late as it would be like releasing the iPhone to the US and US only, then 10 years later releasing it to the rest of the world and we are expected to act like we have no clue and all wow and oooh at Tim showing it to us and wanting applause for zero innovation in an ***** card.

I miss the old days under Steve Jobs where new products were released and they blew you back in your seat and took your breath away such as the MacBook Air and Steve showing it fitting inside an envelope!

I am not saying Steve did not have his scandals or that he never did anything unethical but I miss the innovation and his showmanship and th fact that he could get projects off the ground and released.
Tim had 10 years to get the Apple car released and it is cancelled after spending billions of dollars for nothing because he has zero clue!

He needs to go and go now!

I'm assuming this was a 3rd party app and you or wife or never used a device to search for said thing?

How do they know this came from Siri? I think it’s highly unlikely Apple would do this. I’d be more suspicious of Facebook/Insta/Snap, etc having microphone access and being allowed to run in the background. I don’t give any social media apps mic access and I’ve never had any of these weird targeted advertisement moments

Apple would have relatively little to gain and a lot to lose if they did this
Trust me Apple are guilty, end of!

I caught them out once when the only device in the room with my girlfriend and I was my iPhone and we were talking about something very private and specific then a few minutes later I got that very specific ad on my phone!

The only thing active was Siri!

But...

In these types of cases, are we to believe that Siri was accidentally triggered, recorded what was said AND Apple then sold that to advertisers causing ads to be shown? Seems unlikely.

I believe there is no doubt that Apple provided recordings to third parties for Siri research, but how are we to make the jump to advertisers?

Apps can and do have access to the microphone, were the plaintiffs perhaps mistaken about how their talk of Air Jordans etc were disseminated to advertisers? This is far more likely.
Trust me that Apple are guilty here as I keep saying I caught them out with zero and I mean ZERO ay it could be anyone other than Apple!

Apple like a lot of tech companies want power and as such they can to achieve that and that means working with advertisers not against them and yes this includes Apple who are not saints, they just have a good PR dept.

Did you know that Apple refuse to let anyone on TV use their products unless they are good people and doing good.

This is to fool people that Apple are a good company that they only do good when anyone not brainwashed knows this is not true!

Sorry my bad, what I mean to say was that Apple claimed that contractors accidentally listened to the accidentally triggered recordings and that could. not be true as Apple contradicted themselves.

Let’s be honest, all companies do this but Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft are the big 4. Pay me monthly for my data and you can have it. But if you’re not paying we shouldn’t have to sue to protect ourselves from targeted ad campaigns.

That's a laugh. When does Apple back down from defending itself?

Could the real reason for why Apple is settling be that Apple doesn't want it to get out that Apple was selling user data to advertisers? This would be revealed if the case went to trial during the discovery phase as Apple would have to turn over such data.
This is exactly what I also have said, no way Apple settled out of court to save lawyers fees that would be like loose change found down the back of the couch for them.

Apple is basically picking up the loose change under the couch to close this out and save lawyer fees.
It makes you wonder about the system when paying 100 million in a settlement is cheaper than paying your lawyers to defend you in court.

Everyone is instead imagining some sort of live feed with immediate actions, like the episodes of The Good Wife with NSA wiretapping. "Ashley, quick, iPhone owner 49822xh3 just mentioned Pizza Hut, get this to ad placement, asap."
It is called AI in that it happens automatically just as websites will show you ads for products you searched for on Google!
This is a thing so much that Apple admitted it as they showcased Safari's ability to stop it!

Baloney, the lawsuit proved nothing. Allegations are not proof. Apple admits no guilt and settles rather than go to court where some idiots on a jury might award untold millions. By the way, the same lawyers that sued Apple also sued Google for the same allegations and Google has yet to settle.

So no, we will not find out anything about what happened. We will be left will allegations and that’s it. And social media will, as usual, come up other than dozens of conspiracy theories. Your post is the start here. And the tired old argument of "why settle if you’re innocent” simply does not apply to large corporations who find it cheaper to pay off the lawyers instead of dragging it for years in court whether they win or lose. The lawyers here want almost $30 million for their efforts. You MIGHT get $20 IF you even qualify. And as it’s pointed out Apple makes $95 Million in profit every 9 hours, pocket change to make this go away.
Baloney! The lawsuit did not go ahead but there was sufficient proof that Apple are guilty otherwise the lawsuit would not have been allowed to proceed after being previously rejected due to no specific evidence being included which was then aded hence the case being allowed.

Apple claims they settled to save legal costs which is further baloney as they can afford legal costs all day long with ease.

Apple spent ten years and wasted $10 BILLION to produce NOTHING and did not complain about the costs once so therefore this is just lies from Apple as the truth is that had this gone to court Apple would have been subject to discovery and that means highly damaging prof would emerge that this goes much deeper than we think and Apple would be in real trouble!

The truth will out soon!
