The Samsung Galaxy Note started a new category. SGN2 has sold 10s of millions and spawned many copies to date.

Guess who did it first...

Why is the rumored low cost phone "dubbed" 5C but the new iPhone is known to be '5S'

How does anyone know that it will be called 5S?

Says Who!!! Please tell me, thank you

edit: don't tell me about 'patterns'

5C stands for cheap, 5S stands for same old thing. :D:D

Note: The above statement is an attempt at humor, it is not intended to incite or cause problems.

cant wait to see apple's iphone become the king of the market once again, become the best designed phone of the year, fastest phone of the year, strongest phone of the year, most efficient phone of the year, best camera phone of the year, most innovative phone of the year, best premium device of the year, highest benchmark scorer of the year, most advanced phone of the year etc.

Woah to much "Phone of the years"

With that kind of attitude I imagine they could release the same phone and you'd think this to be true.

Uhm. Yeah. I hope to see that day too but I dont think I am gonna live to see it.

Honestly can't wait for any type of new iPhone to be announced, so I can get rid of this awful Nexus 4 that I gave my iPhone 5 up for :(

:D it's time!
i wish they move it to 4th september so they can steal away all the spotlight from samsung (note 3's coming on sep 4th)

Didn't you hear!?!?! They made it so you can pause videos by looking away! And more importantly made it so you can turn this and the other new features off! /s

The funny thing is, being able to turn off a feature or at least delete an application that you dont want choking your homescreen would be innovation for Apple.

I really hope that those features make it to iOS 7. Being able to remove the stock Apple apps, and choose defaults is just one more thing that keeps me on Android. If Apple allows me to do so, that's one less thing that I would fall back on.

Let me get this straight. Apple is taking last years model iPhone 5, throwing an s on it and now calling it a NEW phone to be released Sept. 10th. Hmmm, isn't that like taking last years food, putting this years label on it and re-selling it in the stores? Snake Oil Salesmen now working for Apple.

Do you not remember the iPhone 3G to 3GS? Or the iPhone 4 to the 4S?
what do you expect??

Could 5c mean 5 "China"?

Why would Apple suddenly change their iPhone naming convention from "#" and then "#s" to a "#c" for the rumored "5c"? Could the "c" stand for "China" as in a model made specifically to deal with the China market? "c" may stand for "color" but Apple would probably not let it stand for "cheep".

I agree and I also think they can't afford to wait until March or April for an iPad Mini Retina either. By then the market will be saturated with low cost Nexus 7 which are cheap and have beautiful displays. I think we are slowly reaching a point where Apple can no longer count on their ecosystem to hold people to Apple products. Nice big bright super high resolution phones by the competition is slowing going to eat them up, plus their are the cheaper phones that have great specs too.

But even if someone lacks the education/knowledge to be seduced by specs, Apple's ecosystem, along with superior design, ease of use, tight hardware/software integration and support will most likely bring them back.

At least that's the case with the iPhone > Android users I know... all but one intend to go back to iPhone when their contract is up or when iPhone 5S is released.

is there any rumored location where the keynote will take place.
i really wanna attend this keynote, i wanna feel how it's like to see a new iphone being unveiled right in front of you

But the thing about that is if you make a halfway decent product or have a useful feature there is no need for it to be disabled. This is not saying that I don't agree we should be able to disable stock apps but to feel so uncertain about the core features of your new phone that you must make them disable-able... that says something.

Predicted this date weeks ago. It's always the first or second Tuesday in Sept.

I'm guessing you're referring to the old iPod event.

Otherwise... iPhones have been announced in January, June, October, but only once in September.

and here's a fun fact for you. they did it in 2011 and 2009, too.

Yes.

For me the ecosystem keeps me at Apple not the iPhone. S will equal same ol, but as Tim Cook got told by the board to get innovating, and Android keeps forging ahead, and Windows Phone doubled its share, and the share price slumped, I can see proper innovation next year and the bigger screen option. iPhone 6

Unless I'm going to be able to completely turn off the fingerprint reader, I'm not going to buy this phone. It's that simple. I'm pretty much certain that everyone's fingerprints will be sent to Apple for analysis - and on the way there, someone (*cough*NSA*cough*) will love to take a close peak at them. Don't get me wrong - the government already has my fingerprints as the US is treating its guests at the border like criminals already - but having them sent around the internet or having third-party apps read them and send them to god knows where? No thanks.
