This is exciting. There are so many things to say about this iWatch thing. For the sake of this post and to prevent it from being long paragraphs after paragraphs, I'll just use bullet points.

- I still can't wrap my mind around the concept of wearing a shiny "Apple" watch with a touchscreen on my wrist all day long. There's the risk of being depicted as 'cocky' , 'showing off' by some people who happen to see Apple products as social status provers. Then there's always the risk of theft. Besides; I don't wear watches, I mean at all. Don't know if I'l feel exactly comfortable with an iWatch although the health features seem to might get put to great use.
- Unlike the mobile phones, Apple will create a market for this wearable, very much like the iPad. This time it'll be much more difficult that the iPad because it probably won't be a standalone device, it'll be an accessory. That alone shrinks the potential market from the entire world to iPhone owners. So expecting something as major as iPhone or iPad could lead to disappointment. Besides, iPad was the gateway to 21st century and internet for many people over the age of 50. Again, iWatch will only be an accessory.
- However, someone above also stated that they think Apple will only dump their inventory of iPod Nano and maybe rebrand the whole iPod thing, that it won't be as big as computers etc. Think back to 2007, same thing could've easily been said for an alleged phone. (that it can't outgrow the mac and computers etc...) Look at where iPhone is today. So we can't say anything decisive at this point and I really want to get super excited and not to be let down.

I really want Apple to change the world with this wearable thing again but I don't know if the market is ready for a mass wearable device. Apple better create a massive need again for this device and revolutionise again. If this "kept secret for a long time" device and the first new product category in Tim's management turns out to be not so major and iPod like or a failure, Apple is not destined for good despite all its other super strong insane products.

And I want to hope that Tim and the crew work so agonisingly slow and are taking sure steps knowing this, making it come out when it's ready. Things are really exciting. Best time to be following Apple rumours in 5 years.

It's not an accessory. It will function completely on it's own for the reason which it was made. I know I have to tell you because 95% of people still don't get it. It's being made for biometrics. Will it tell you of notifications from your iPhone? Yes of course.... That's absolutely not why it's being made.

Biosensors are the function of this device. That's what it's for.

My body, mind, and soul are ready for September 9th.

But my wallet isn't.

Tell me about it. And that doesn't even include new iPads and whatever else they might have in store... Apple TV, perhaps?

I've said this several times, but Apple really should spread out their product launches. It just seems really silly to try and launch everything at once... from a logistics and sales perspective. People want the latest and greatest and most folks can't afford to buy everything all at once. Spread it out and they'll buy more Apple gear over the course of the year. It also gives people reason to visit Apple stores more often, resulting in more sales.

Didn't Samsung announce a phone and a watch that only worked together at an event two years ago?

Who is copying who now?

right....so anyone that makes a wearable watch will be copying Samsung?

Following that logic anyone that releases a smart phone with a home button is copying the IBM Simon :

Except the iWatch will function 100% on it's own for the reason it's being made, which it tracking biometrics. Only really unintelligent people think it will have to have the phone to function.

Will it notify you of texts and phone calls from your iPhone? Of course, a 5 year old moron could think of that. This device is SOOOOO much more than that.

You still have to sync all of that data somewhere. Healthbook on the iPhone is the obvious recipient of that information.

I think a lot of people are going to be highly disappointed at whatever Apple announces with regards to a wearable device. The market for this is not nearly that of the iPhone or iPad.

Just don't think an iWatch or whatever it is is going to be earth shattering. It may be useful but not life altering. The hype and expectations are cranked up way too high.

Not at all. The iWatch will have it's own healthbook. Healthbook on your larger screened devices obviously makes sense too. That's why it will sync and there's an app there for the information too.

You may be greatly underestimating the power Apple has to induce impulse purchasing. The anticipation that builds to a new product launch probably far outweighs any fiduciary responsibility. Besides, it's much easier for companies like Apple to delegate the "spreading out" to the consumer via credit.

I likely can't afford anything new from them in the next few months, but you can bet I'll be at least trying to find a way to buy something "magical".

Welcome to macjokes.com! A new joke everyday! :D 9/9...get here fast!

More like flipflop.com. How many times have we seen this watch go from being announced this year or earlier 2015? Same is true for the 5.5” iPhone.
I can’t wait until the September announcement is over with. Then we will have to brave another round of useless rumors for the iPad announcement. By then these useless articles will slow down until next year. I will be commenting less until we have the facts; then we can have intelligent conversation.

You have literally zero knowledge as to the market of this, and no one else does either frankly. Just because you aren't imaginative, creative, or inventive, doesn't mean others aren't, and don't know how to change the world. This device is for biometric tracking, and if it has enough sensors and the accuracy is there, it is the start of something that will definitely change the world.

You apparently don't know that in the future there will be a lot of tech devoted to preventing disease, which is far better in every way than treating disease. This is the start, if done right.

If you look at the current wearables on the market today, the technology you're describing is simply not small enough to fit into something of reasonable size.

Using the Nike FuelBand as a measuring stick, how do you propose to add up to 10 additional sensors, an LCD display, a CPU capable of processing the data, and a battery to power it all in a device that is sized in a way sufficient enough to make it operate completely autonomously?

No one is arguing that the device won't be capable, but it will need the iPhone's processing power to make sense of all of the data that the sensors are collecting. Otherwise you may as well just duct tape an iPhone to your wrist.

at first this seems unlikely,

but the event is less than 2 weeks away.

Strange that someone would make something up this close to the event, if they are going to be proven wrong in just a couple days they would look pretty dumb.

So that leaves me to think that this is not made up, which means it is actual reliable information.

This is quite unexpected but exciting!

That's what I'm thinking as well. Lots of people seem to be against the iWatch name but it feels very Apple-like to me. I like it a lot.

I think there's one significant factor running against "watch" - that timepiece is going to be one of its least important functions. "I don't need another watch," is a likely response. It's sorta like if iPhone had been called iPocketWatch. Yeah, so what if it can tell time?

That's a substantial part of the problem with "Google Glass." It comes right up against, "I don't want to wear glasses." The first response to a product name should not be a negative. It's far better to suggest what it enables, or to stake out a new brand identity altogether - "Announcing, Apple's all-new Dinglehopper!"

I have no good ideas of my own. Something like "iHealth" no doubt fails to mention many of its capabilities. "iPay" (for possible payment system usage) is just as limiting.

"iBand" has been circulating, and it certainly avoids the aforementioned shortcomings, but it says little else. "Band" itself may be limiting, if it can be worn in other ways - pendant, on/in-ear, sub-cutaneous implant.... Of course, "Macintosh" says little, other than that it's a variety of apple/Apple....
