Ahhhh What to get? An iMac or MBP as my first Mac? With all these updates it's hard to choose.

I bought an iMac as my first Mac. But if I were to do it over I would choose the MacBook Pro, and save up for a cinema display. If something goes wrong with your Mac, it's much easier to bring a laptop than a 27" iMac to the Apple store. And MacBook Pro's are for more easier than iMacs at upgrading the HD.

Switched in January from a desktop iMac to an MBP after all desktops for the longest time.Would never get another desktop.

My experience:
Using a 17" with an additional big screen (Put in max HD)
Using Apple keyboard (Don't like reaching over the front all day
Using a Kensington trackball. (Don't like trackpad all day)
(Maybe I'll look into the Apple add on trackpad)

MBP anyplace anytime. Watch movies in bed.
You can be with the family (if you have one) in the same room quietly doing your thing ,
instead of isolating yourself in front of the desktop in another room.
(I know same, but at least you are all in the same room:)

I hope they add an anti-reflective screen option. I love the look of the current iMacs, but I've stuck with my 24" white iMac because the screen isn't reflective. I hate the screen on my 13" unibody Macbook, had it set up on my desk when the iMac was in for repair, too many reflections.

Ahhh...

My 24" 2007 (white) G5 intel iMac is beach-balling like crazy these days. HD space has whittled down to about 10GBs. I thought the iMac lineup would be refreshed to coincide with the release of OS X Lion (sometime this summer or shortly after) but it's possible they may come sooner. I just started diving into doing indie films for a hobby and have realized that I need the big screen, HD space, and added horsepower for video editing, color correction, etc. over the long term. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this rumor for the iMacs. I'm starting to have some buyer's remorse about my MBA - although it's great for having a true Mac you can take virtually anywhere but it's way short on meeting my needs for my recently discovered hobby :(

I've waited nearly 3 months for a refresh!
If they make the screens bigger (30" or 32"), that would be AMAZING!
If they do, they'd better ditch those crappy mobile GPUs >_>
I'll have so much love for Apple when they release! <3 :apple:

1 $1499 iMac Please

Today's Macs offer so much bang for buck compared to when I bought mine

1984 Mac $ 2,400

128K,

9 !!! Nine inch screen . Did I mention: NINE?
black and white
no HD,
no modem,
no camera,
no Ethernet,
no bluetooth
no CD/DVD drive

But it came with McWrite and McPaint WOW!

And people are complaining now when they have to wait for a chip here or there!

I'm waiting for the next iMac update before I splash the cash (for the 27inch model - although if larger comes out I might go for that if it is not ridiculously expensive!).

I'd like them to upgrade the internal specs mostly, the display and resolution for the 27inch is already fantastic.

I walked in the snow, uphill both ways, naked to buy that exact Mac when I was a kid.

ps. get off my lawn.

I guess that if they are bringing our light peak it would be handy to upgrade the other models too so it is on as many machines as possible. I also saw an article by Cringely saying that Mac Mini's with Light Peak would be coming out soon.

There is only one "little" problem: The world market for semiconductors does not offer semiconductors which implement LP.

Introducing the new iMac. Now with a new processor architecture and faster graphics.

The above what the apple website says when you look at the current imac.

I doubt they would already upgrade what they call the "new imac".

As soon as the iMac is refreshed, I'm buying the biggest/baddest version I can. Almost pulled the trigger this week on an i7 27"

Ohhh... I used to dream of being able to walk in the snow uphill, just to get that Mac!

I had to get up at 3 o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of hot gravel, go to work every day for a $0.02 a month...

... and even then, I couldn't afford a Mac until four years later, when I bought a Mac SE!

ps. get off my lawn.

Lawn? You were lucky to have a lawn! We used to live in one room, all hundred and twenty-six of us, no furniture, and one IBM PCjr.

... But you try and tell the young people today that--and they won't believe ya!

Plus white iphone
Retina displays for everybody
Classic ipod revived ?

and the rumor that Verizon will get the iphone.

WOW! What a company.

As somebody wrote in another thread.

The classics signs of a company going downhill!
You are being sarcastic, right?

I heard before that when Apple cut out the iMac's screen from that sheet of aluminium, they later use that cut-out panel for a unibody MBP. (Cheaper / greener to do so).

If the iMacs screens are changing aspect ratio or size; does that then imply the same for the MBPs?

2011 will be a great year! Looking forward to:

• iPhone 5
• iPad 2
• iOS 5
• Xcode 4
• OSX Lion
• New iMac and/or new MBP's

:apple:

Give me 1 and 6. I'll be good for the year. Everything else will just be whip crea, icream and a cream on an great piece of cake.

They can keep the dimensions the same with the current one if all they do is make the screen take up the entire front of the machine.

Apple's own 30 inch monitors are two inches wider than the 27 inch monitor.

The problem I have with a 30 inch iMac is the packaging, these things already require wagons/suvs just to car home. Worse is the requirement to take them in when they break making it a real bear at times.
