Which Apple TV will you get?

I don't think there will be a big push for 4k until broadcast heads in that direction. Regardless, I'm pretty sure that they can update the software to support 4k and bluetooth 4.2. The new Apple TV has the HDMI 1.4 spec which supports 4k. Additionally, 4k streaming eats a lot of bandwidth. The iPhone 6 had its bluetooth firmware upgraded to 4.2 when iOS 9 was released. All of this is speculation of course, however, I have a feeling there won't be a hardware upgrade for at least 2 years.

I agree, I don't see the point in people holding off for v5 as it's likely going to be in 2 years or so. 4K would be nice, but there is no real reason to push having this feature in current devices as we are 3-4 years minimum away from major exposure to a large amount of 4K content. By that time you will need to purchase a new device to work with it anyway.

This version of the Apple TV is a great start in the right direction of where entertainment devices in the home are going. It is effectively a fully fledged entertainment device and once the App store gets up and running, we will see how powerful a device it is.

For the money they are asking, I think it's a great device potentially. Although I will hold off for a few months anyway to see what happens first and foremost.

I can't see myself using 32GB worth of apps on my TV, being that I don't even have 32GB worth of apps on my iPhone/iPad or MBP, but something tells me to just spend the extra $50 and not worry about anything that may pop up in the future.

I keep going back and forth, but that's what I am leaning towards as well. Might as well spend the extra $50 to be safe.

as many others, my body is ready and willing to accept this new apple tv

I wonder why apple hasn't updated their website with the pre-order info

Same, I'm really eager to find the time they will start accepting orders, as 2:00 AM on a Monday morning(at least in central US) is a setup for a pretty harsh Monday! I'm really hoping they will go on sale around 8:00 PM central time on Monday, that way no one is at work, and it is a lot less stressful on the sleep schedule.

expect to get ripped on the FX. I'd expect to see the 32gb go for around 120 quid, 64gb around 160 quid

If it's a $=£ deal I'm not going to bother, especially as we get less content over here anyway.

I see people keep posting this and I have to say that while it is technically true that HDMI 1.4 can support 4K30p I highly doubt Apple will bother to support it with the Apple TV4. The reason is the only content it would ever be able to send out that way would be your own home movies shot on your iPhone etc, or pirated movies. I say this for 2 reasons.

1. The AppleTV 4 will not have the horsepower to run games at 4K resolutions.
2. Hollywood is insisting on HDMI 2.0/HDCP2.2 for all 4K movie/TV content.

So if you can't have movies, tv shows, or games using 4K would it really be worth doing?

The Apple TV5 will bring 4K assuming that it actually gains wide acceptance and the formats are fully settled in. The Apple TV4 is here to begin growing the TVOS ecosystem, and bring mass consumers on board.

Huh? Netflix already hosts a number of original TV shows in 4K, as well as user uploaded videos on YouTube and Vimeo.

And Apple could easily announce 4K iTunes content down the road at anytime really (although probably later rather than sooner unfortunately).

4K is just reaching to mainstream markets but there is definitely content out there other than your iPhone shot videos.

32Gb because I'm hoping shortly their will be updated 4k support, and this can always go to a family member. And yes I have a 4k tv to utilize this on.

Will this go down like an iPhone preorder with it becoming available around 3am EDT on Sunday Night/Monday morning?

I feel like this will be available after a silent refresh of the Apple Store on Monday morning. No real hoopla or fanfare, maybe an email to announce the ability to order one.

Everyone who really wants one will be able to get one with very little effort.

Is October 26 the official pre-order date? If so when would it be available in stores? Also is this date for Canada as well as USA?

Do we know everything that could use storage? If it's only apps, then 32GB will be fine for me too.
I imagine it's just apps s otherwise even 64GB would be pushing it if you wanted loads of tv shows, movies and photos on there.

This will be my first apple TV so really looking forward to trying it out

I had the 3rd generation Apple TV since 2012 so I'm looking forward to the App Store on tvOS

This announced today. "

There is actually quite a lot of content out there. UTube actually has some great 4K stuff and nasa has also made a bunch of 4k available.

I said nothing about 4K content not being available. I said that the content providers (movie studios, TV stations etc) are requiring HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 to be used for it.

So your TV either has to support these apps internally so the content is decoded right in the TV. Or if you are using an external device like the Roku 4, or DirecTV C61 genie client, etc. then both that device and your TV have to have an HDMI 2.0 port with HDCP 2.2 in order for the content to be work. If they both don't have those ports/protection they you will get a black screen with a copy protection errror on it.

The Apple TV 4 does not have HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2. So the movie studios, tv stations etc. will never allow it to display their 4K content because they know they HDMI 1.4 with its version HDCP (don't remember what numer is is) has been compromised and the thieves could easily capture the 4K stream and start putting it on torrent sites.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The HDMI specs just flew over my head on that moment. So looks like we have an Apple TV 4s (or 5) to look forward to.
