Here is an excellent article on how to decide between the 32 and 64 GB versions.

Good question...I don't know. What do they mean by "If you [...] watch a lot of movies and shows at a time, you'll want 64 GB"?
The article some flawed math to assess the value. Its reasoning: 32 GB for $149 means $4.66 per GB, while 64 GB for $199 means $3.11 per GB. The problem is...Here is an excellent article on how to decide between the 32 and 64 GB versions.

It is what it is, my friend. The article some flawed math to assess the value. Its reasoning: 32 GB for $149 means $4.66 per GB, while 64 GB for $199 means $3.11 per GB. The problem is...
The price isn't just for the memory, it's for other components in the box as well (and the box itself). So let's say the ATV4 would cost $99 if you had no memory in it. That means $49 for 32 GB and $99 for 64 GB. Which is basically the same price per GB.
Is October 26 the official pre-order date? If so when would it be available in stores? Also is this date for Canada as well as USA?
A uk retailer just leaked the pricing. I was 9 quid off. 129/169 for the 32/64 variants.

At first I was thinking 32gb would be plenty for apps since I won't be gaming. But if Apple allows us to store purchased content from iTunes and maybe the ability to store Apple Music content locally for offline use, then I would go for the 64gb option.
why you would want to offline use for music and movies? you realize it's a always connected to wifi

Why though? Are you ever going to need to use your Apple TV when you're not connected to the Internet? Do you have severely restricted bandwidth?

Same reason you would want to store media on your Apple Watch, iPad, iPhone and MacBook.
Yes, I will have many occasions when I would be able to use offline storage. I would love to be able to sync some of my iTunes movies/tv shows to it and take it with me on business trips for watching in the hotel, many of which have horrible internet service..
Why not simply sync the movies to an iPhone or iPad and connect that to the TV using the HDMI adapter? I do that all the time in hotels. The Apple TV is not designed to be used offline (I doubt the new one will even work, given the reliance on on-demand bundles etc.).Yes, I will have many occasions when I would be able to use offline storage. Also do deer camp where we have a TV but no internet, so I currently bring a Blu-Ray player and a bunch of discs every year.
What time Monday does the pre-order start? Anyone thinks there will be a shortage?
Same I don't think ATV gets quote as many hits as iPhones/iPadsNo news as of yet. I doubt there will be a shortage. Outside of people on forums and tech blogs, no one I personally know even knows a new ATV is being released....let alone when or about preorders. I also would be shocked if it was a midnight preorder. Something late morning or early afternoon seems more likely.
Apple has not officially said anything.
Can't you do this with an iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone? Load the content you want to watch on the road? all you need is a simple lighting to HDMI cable.
Yes I mentioned that I could do this, and I currently do from time to time with my 3rd gen iPad. But like I said controlling the videos is a pain. If you need to pause, fast forward or rewind it means getting up and walking across the room to get the iPad and do so. Not to mention getting the HDMI handshake to work properly can be a chore.
As far as the AppleTV not being a portable device, that is true, but it sure seems like a lot of people use them like I'm talking about already. They jus have to rely on crappy hotel wifi. I mean wasn't there just an article about getting the AppleTV to work with wifi networks that require a login screen such as hotels. Haven't there been people asking for directv wifi or Bluetooth connections between the AppleTV and their iPhone/iPad so they can use AirPlay directly.
