curious to see if they unveil a new apple tv model in october according to rumors..

With all the software updates adding weather, disney, and now this major update for itunes radio and icloud/airplay, I highly doubt Apple releasing a new hardware device this year.

I could see a new Apple TV coming alongside iPhone 6 though. I'm sure Apple is in negotiations to get 4K content on the iTunes store. Hopefully we can 'upgrade' our existing library instead of paying twice.

The new Apple TV will probably have the A7X or A8X chip, with 4K support, maybe 16 or 32GB memory, and finally an app store.

That's what I'm really hoping for as it seems plausible now that more and more apps are appearing on the Apple TV

Also, with iTunes Radio - I definitely see more people picking this up to compliment their Apple ecosystem who don't already have Apple TV's.

But what's the advantage exactly, over the way it works now?
Other then it wasn't possible before? Either the music or movie would have to be stored locally on your iPhone and then AirPlayed or the AppleTV would have to be signed into your iCloud account.

If you are visiting someone, you wouldn't be signed in to iCloud on their Apple TV.

Hopefully they improved the caching performance... I hate renting a movie from iTunes and then being informed that it will be 3h:30m before I can start watching it... even with it set to 720p on a 25M connection. Fortunately I have no such issues with Netflix, Amazon, etc.

never seen that and im on a crappy att uverse 10 m connection

Wow, I've never had such an issue. I have 20Mbp Comcast line.

First impressions of iTunes Radio are ok. But really, putting the price right in the middle of the screen is tacky. It seems Apple is only wanting you to buy the song not provide a good experience.

Yeah but Airplay sucks it always has connection issues, when will Charter ever learn that is not what customers really want.

Do you use a 802.11n router? It shouldn't suck if you have a new router that supports the standard. I'm waiting for Apple to refresh Apple TV to 802.11ac, so Airplay should be great using my new Airport TimeCapsule.

LOL, Apple has never cared about that, and they never will.

Exactly what I was thinking as well. ;)

Oh my gosh. I've been on MR since '06 and this is the first time I got called a 'troll'. Whatever, dude.

Sorry but where did I quote you as a troll? I think you need to read what I said again before you get all mad again because I called major businesses are bunch of trolls.

Bricked

My Apple TV was working fine and when I updated it crashed. Now the light is rapidly blinking and the USB to iTunes is displayed on the screen

Any ideas on how to fix? I already unplugged and plugged it back in.

Can anyone tell me whether AppleTV can push AirPlay to another target (e.g. an Airport Express?) One of the reasons I'm keen on iTunes Radio is so I can broadcast to multiple rooms during parties from my laptop without using the airfoil workaround, but would be easier yet if I could push straight from an ATV (or, you know, my iPhone...).
Yea, when the music is playing press and hold the select button -- should bring up an options menu. Just pick the AirPort Express that you want to AirPlay too.

I wish Airplay would improve on Apple TV I always get connection errors, hopefully they will just add Amazon Prime on Apple TV to make it easier because Airplay is terrible.

Airplay works perfectly at my house, and works so-so at my parent's house. It's not airplay's fault, it's probably your router. Note that your router might be great at sending internet TO your device, but not talking BETWEEN devices.

Wtf? What about all the stuff you have NOT bought through iTunes?

LOL, why would they let you stream content off their servers you didn't buy from them.

Sounded silly at first, but then I thought..
How cool would it be to have an iTunes Match for movies and tv shows. An extra $25 a year (just like iTunes Music Match service) to have all of my movies and tv shows in the cloud.

Really though Amazon Streaming would be here

Thought for sure the AirPlay in the app meant it was going to be native in the next AppleTV update. Oh well.

I would gather from the USB sync cable and iTunes logo on the screen that you need to plug it into your PC/MAC and do a recovery.

From a random Google search:
The process, in case anyone has similar issues:
-plug in the USB cable first, then the power cable (power first seems to prevent it going into recovery mode)
-After the ATV pops up in iTunes, click the restore button
-Let the restore progress until the status displays 'Restoring Apple TV Firmware', and the progress bar has finished scrolling (sometimes goes through twice)
-Unplug the power cord immediately after the progress bars have changed to the candy-stripe bar, and while 'Restoring ATV Firmware' is still displayed
-Enjoy your back-from-the-dead ATV!

You have to hook it up to iTunes and restore it just like you would a phone.

There's a huge difference than matching a 8mb mp3 and matching a 4gb video file. And tagging of video files isn't real standard so it would almost certainly have to upload all the video files and match it against a database that doesn't even exist yet. I could see it costing about $500 a year if you really wanted such a service.
