Not to be captain obvious, but... USB to iTunes did you try plugging it into iTunes?

I am having the same issues. Plugged it into iTunes, and attempted a restore and nope! I also found a old 5.3 IPSW file and tried to restore to that, and nothing either....

My Apple TV was working fine and when I updated it crashed. Now the light is rapidly blinking and the USB to iTunes is displayed on the screen

Any ideas on how to fix? I already unplugged and plugged it back in.

You and me both. You need to connect it to itunes with a micro-usb cable.

Yea, when the music is playing press and hold the select button -- should bring up an options menu. Just pick the AirPort Express that you want to AirPlay too.

Thanks. Just to clarify, can it push both its own speakers and one or more remote AirPorts? So, for example, having radio playing in my living room and kitchen. Life would be much easier if iOS allowed selection of multiple targets.

But that is not what Charter is telling me and why Roku over Apple TV? HBO Go works for Charter customers on Roku don't they know Apple TV is better? Seems like someone is lying about the glitch.

Charter is lying to you. Or rather, you talked to someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Go to the official HBOGo site (http://www.hbogo.com/activate/#devices) And select Apple Tv. This list is who HBO Go has partnered up with on the particular device.

Believe me, HBO Go would LOVE to have their product on as many devices as possible. AppleTV doesn't care what company you get your cable from, they are just allowing the App. It is on Charter to OK it.

For me, Comcast allows hbo go on apple tv, but not roku.
It looks like for Charter, they allow it on Roku and not apple tv.
Why? I don't know their reasoning, but HBO says "If your TV provider is not listed, access to HBO GO on Apple TV is not offered as part of your HBO subscription.
Contact your TV provider and ask for HBO GO on Apple TV. ".

Meaning it falls solely on Charter. HBO is even saying it is your cable providers decision.

As expected, the update offers a number of new features for Apple TV users, including support for Apple's newly released iTunes Radio music service, iCloud Photos and Videos, iTunes Music Store purchases on the device, Podcasts, and AirPlay from iCloud.

This brings up a critical issue that is being discussed in the following thread: WARNING: Serious flaw in iTunes in the Cloud

Content purchased on AppleTV still must be backed up or you risk losing it. If you don't have a computer then you're out of luck. When a movie license changes hands or if its delisted from the iTunes store, you lose the movie you paid for.

Wow, just tried Airplaying from iCloud. Worked like a charm! I just also realized that iOS 7 allows for streaming of your movie and TV purchases in the Video app so no need to download them on your iOS device to waste space unnecessarily. I was waiting for this for a while now.

Awesome Apple! Thanks! :D

be careful updating , i have to do a restore connecting the apple tv to my computer using a micro usb

so if you dont have a micro usb dont update

after the update download and install i saw the appletv to comptuter image on the tv and the light was blinking on the apple tv

they could certainly do it if the rumoured ATV update has the A7 and all cores active. Man that would be so sweet.

It is going to require much more storage though. I just don't see how they can do it without raising the price of the aTV to around $200.

What I am more concerned about is being able to play movies/music stored on my HDD attached to my Airport Extreme, without keeping the laptop running and home sharing on. How is this not a feature yet?!
Also, bring on an app store with games and allow me to use my new iPhone 5s (or third party bluetooth unit) as a controller.

SWEET! Thanks for the heads up.

how does this work

On your iOS device running iOS 7, just go into the Video app. Assuming you have purchased content from iTunes, your collection will be displayed via iCloud. Just select a movie and hit play for automatic streaming without downloading. Then once your movie or TV show (or music video) starts playback, tap the Airplay button. You'll even see Apple TV going through the proper authorization screen before playing the content.

This is going to be ultra convenient when going over to a friend or family member's house. No need to log in to their Apple TV with your credentials anymore. Just play and Airplay! :D

Thanks! So, I'm understanding you this way: a guest on your network uses their iPhone/ipad/iPod touch to access something they've purchased from icloud, and then tells their device to play it on your AppleTV, at which point the AppleTV pulls it down from the internet directly, instead of it streaming it from the device through the access point.
Yep.
Sounds good! But what's the advantage exactly, over the way it works now?
You can send purchased movies to any ATV even if they are not stored on your iPhone/iPad. In iOS7, the video app can show all purchased content, whether on the device or not (option "show all videos" in the settings). If you tap a movie not on the device, it starts streaming from the cloud. If you now activate Airplay, the ATV will take over the streaming (without the device being further involved).

This will seem minor to some (or many) people, but it troubles me that when iTunes Radio is playing, the content on the screen doesn't "flip" around like the internet radio stations do or when you're playing Pandora through AirPlay, in order to "save" the screen and prevent burn in from images and text being in the same place for too long. I mean, if Apple thought this was important enough for the internet radio stations and when you stream music from iCloud or your computer, why doesn't iTunes Radio do this? I can see that it has to do with the way the interface works, specifically, the going back to see what previously played, but still, I feel they should have somehow figured a way to make this work.

On another note, there's no way to "thumbs up" a song. You can tell it to never play a song again, but you can't tell it to make sure a song always gets played, only "play more like this".

Sure thing. I've been so overwhelmed with iOS 7's other features that I forgot to stop and check out the video app more in depth. The only thing that bugs me right now though is none of my cover art shows on my purchases. But yea, awesome!

For those getting the "Connect to iTunes" restore/recovery screen.
I don't suppose putting it in that mode would allow an AppleTV 3 to accept an ipsw that can be jailbroken?

If I could get even PLEX (not plexconnect) to work on the AppleTV3 I'd buy several of them in a heart beat.

I would think so. After all iTunes itself can do multiple speakers. However, I've never used the feature.

A restore because.... your Apple TV is jailbroken or something? The update when painlessly for me on my "virgin" Apple TV. :D:p

Screen burn-in is non-issue on non-plasma tv's (not even sure it's an issue with newer plasmas). Screen savers are just pretty things to look at now.

How is this a glitch? Charter refuses to have HBOGo on the Apple TV.

Interesting point -- I use HBO Go on Charter all the time.

I just do it with a Verizon FIOS login.

I was hoping for an updated HBOGo app, actually. The current one is OK, but there's no way to tell what you've watched and what you haven't. I just watch one show at a time on there, and every time I start the app I have to navigate to Series -> navigate to the show -> select the season -> scroll through the blurbs to figure out which one I watched last -> choose the show.

For an Apple product, this UI is horrific. Yes, you can add things to a watchlist, but only a single episode of a series, not a whole show.
