One of the problems though is that in many markets the cable companies are the one supplying the internet connection so if you want a fast connection you still have to deal with them and they can just jack up the price of a standalone connection.

Time Warner has lost suits on their tactics in pushing out Vonage users on their network. Vonage needs certain ports open and a fair amount of bandwidth. Time Warner wants customers using their VoIP, they can determine if a VoIP service is being used and have made quality difficult for users who inevitably are lead over to Time Warner's VoIP when dealing with customers who don't know any better.

Shameful. Comcast, Time Warner, U-Verse - ridiculous.

Everytime I consider cutting the cable, I work out the numbers and see that the TV portion of the bill is pretty cheap, and I'd lose my local sports, plus some decent channels and programs, that I end up keeping my TV package. If you consider that a 50 mbps connection and a landline (which I still want for 911) would run $80, it doesn't make sense to not get the TV at that point for a few bux extra, also considering that I own my own multi-room TiVo system and don't pay monthly for that.

Exactly.

Plus with cable... you can get everything that is "on TV" by simply setting your DVR.

Otherwise... you'll have to chase down which online service has the show you want. And you still can't get everything.

So yeah... if the TV portion of your cable bill isn't too much... why not just get it?

Apple just open it for developer (Plex app Specially / not everyone live in USA) ... stop being a control freak

What doesn't make sense is that you can watch Disney & Disney XD shows on the iPad, iPhone apps without a cable subscription, but not on the Apple TV. Granted, you can't watch every episode of every show, but where is the logic in that? This is getting to be as bad as the cable companies.

Great, more crap to hide

Apple TV really needs to ability to show or hide content without having to use the parental controls and locking down everything. Most of the stuff they have been adding is nothing I am interested in.

If Apple is going to become a dumping ground of online content then they need to let their customers pick and choose the content they are interested in, not just automatically add it to the screen at will.

why would you use vonage instead of time warner cable phone service?

using the parental controls is simple and does not change anything

If $99 burns your wallet when they charge over $1000 for computers you can get $400 elsewhere, then WOW you have your priorities messed up

Its not about the content deal that has me pissed off the most

Its the SmartWatch **** up.

And yes, I should have saved it for the thread which shall come later

They didn't have the first computer,MP3 player, smart phone or tablet either.Better to be best than first.
And Samsung doesn't have the first smart watch either, perhaps they should be killed too?

why would you use vonage instead of time warner cable phone service?

For one, Vonage includes a lot of international calling in even their basic plan.

I don't use Vonage, but I do use another voip provider, rather than pay TW because it's still cheaper, even when bundled.

You are right

However, Samsung being first does mean that they set the standard.

That is what I am most worried about

When you have spent several thousand dollars in the Apple ecosystem you tend to get a bit defensive when you see things that you think are bad.

So yeah, maybe I overreacted a bit

But wait...I thought all these leaks were bad because the competition can get an early start competing. So Samsung being first would be to Apple's advantage,no?

And LOL Samsung setting the standard! You mean setting the bar low don't you?

How does Samsung's watch affect you and your investment? Will it make Apple's watch a worse product?

I don't understand why Apple doesn't open up the box for third party developers like they do for IOS, which by all accounts is been a phenomenal success.

There are going to be some interface issues to deal with. How do you move apps around on screen? Would you be able to mirror the Apple TV interface to your iPod or iPad? Or Mac? Could you create a folder?

Also - has anyone seen iOS7 for the Apple TV?

As if being first matters that much, would you want to have product released pre-maturely (ala Apple Maps)? Reminds me of CES 2010 where all those companies released demo tablets to come out before iPad ... and then a couple months later iPad 'flummoxes' them all, to the point where they cancel their products.

.

But,but...By demoing those tablets they were able to set the STANDARD and Apple was doomed to failure.Steve should have been fired for gross incompetence!

This all seems to make me think that an new ATV or the "Cracking the Code" on TV is coming soon. The interface is going to be too cluttered with all of these Channels/Apps as it currently stands. However, if Apple has revamped the OS this all makes sense. Apps can be developed but the overall look and access will be totally different. Apple needs the content now for an announcement in Sept or Oct, which hopefully brings a radical change.

Awesome update! But those Disney icons are U-G-L-Y.

Absolutely! They make my eyes hurt!

And what's with putting the text "Watch" in your icon? I mean, no ****, Disney; I have the TV on and I'm controlling the AppleTV interface. You think I thought, "If I click this I'll smell the Disney Channel"??? GUI design hint: if you have words on your icon, and those words are not an intrinsic part of your only recognizable symbol, you have failed. Its kind of like a stylus that way.

IMHO, the most important things for the AppleTV ecosystem are:

1. Allow me to remove the fugly icons of services I don't use from my menu (no cable, so HBO Go and Disney and a handful of others are completely useless to me). As an alternative, I'd accept an "enter your cable provider" central setup which when "none" or a non-participating provider is chosen, hides the useless / paywall icons from the front screen.

2. Open an app store / dev kit so we can get more variety to choose from.
