ok I can see one of their updated products this week/month being an Apple TV box with a slightly different name. I can’t see them having the service and box with the same name.
Maybe Apple TV Air / Lite, for a cheaper stick device that just plugs into a HDMI port

Apple TV Home (or Home Theatre): Apple TV box merged with a HomePod, with a built in FaceTime camera that can be used as a centre speaker with connected HomePods and / or minis for 5.1, replaces current model

I know, probably won’t happen but I can dream haha

I am very amused how many amateur keyboard warriors really believe they know better and more than a company that makes billions of dollars from its "stupid" decisions.
Meh, just because they are successful, it doesn't mean they make the right decisions 100 percent of the time. They have a highly paid public relations staff, they don't need free help from customers. ;)

Also not sure how it makes someone a "keyboard warrior" to have a negative opinion about something Apple did. You don't work for them, bro. They are a company you give money to.

That won't get confusing at all. 🥴

I'm watching Apple TV on an Apple TV on the Apple TV app.

Apple TV (the box) needs to be rebranded or reinvented. It's a homeOS device. I imagine the HomePad can take over its role in the home as a single central homeOS device. With AirPlay available on most TVs these days, homeOS UI can be AirPlayed to any TV in the house. An AirPlay stick can be available for older TVs.

The TV app needs to drop the Apple logo if it's going to remain an aggregator app. People can use the TV app for purchased movies and TV shows as well as other streaming services. Apple TV remains the name for the streaming service available inside of the TV app.

From the get-go of Apple TV+, people said it was a terrible name. Apparently Apple agrees and they are now changing it.

Maybe… they’re replacing Apple TV with an Apple TV so you can the stream Apple TV on your new 60-inch Apple TV.

Apple TV+ will be ad-free!

I’ll stick to my Apple TV.

I agree. There's definitely something afoot here. I don't think that using the same name for two fundamentally different offerings (one a service, one a product) was ever intended to be the end state for Apple here. I think it's far more likely that it's going to be a very short-lived and transitionary step as Apple moves a few more pieces around the chess board.

The few days or at worst weeks of confusing nomenclature before the hardware box gets renamed will soon be forgotten when the bigger picture emerges.
