I’m starting to think that Apple’s upcoming streaming box might be introduced in two models: the Apple TV Air, a rumoured cheaper and slimmer version, and the Apple TV Pro, the fully featured flagship model. Apple seems to be leaning more into the Air naming strategy, which has long been associated with lighter, more compact, and budget-friendly designs. Meanwhile, the Pro name instantly signals to consumers that it’s the top-tier model packed with every advanced feature, appealing to power users and home cinema enthusiasts. This is perhaps the reason they dropped the Plus name from the streaming service.

I have to imagine they are going to rebrand the hardware then...

Watch Apple TV using the Apple TV app on the latest Apple TV OS with your latest Apple TV hardware.

Could also be rebranded as some sort of "Apple Home Hub" that only brings all the Streaming apps including Apple TV via a HDMI out or some Airplay shenanigans.

Well I guess it’s no longer false advertising because for I could not for the life of me figure out what “+” they were giving above the regular TV experience.

I’d call it Apple stream for the service or maybe just Apple Originals…

Apple TV is just the hardware in my mind.

As others have already pointed out, I think Apple has some more rebrands coming.

The new Apple TV hardware will likely have a different name.
I'm not so sure.

I think the new hardware will be "Apple TV 4K (4th generation)" unless it is an 8K device or something with higher resolution. But still an Apple TV.

Apple's app for audio is "Music" which allows access to the "Apple Music" subscription service (no "+"), among other things. A little confusing in and of itself.

Apple's app for video is "TV' (app icon notwithstanding) which allows access to the "Apple TV" (nee Apple TV+) subscription service, among other things. Add in the hardware Apple TV = a lot confusing.

There would still be confusion between the three (TV app, Apple TV device, and Apple TV streaming service) given the similar names, regardless of whether the "+" is removed or not. So the name change doesn't seem to be making things any clearer.

We never watch Apple TV on our Apple TV and only watch my library on the Apple TV app on my Android TV.

If it takes you 133 words and 4 bullet points to explain a simple thing like a name of a product, I think it proves its confusing to the average user.

Similarly, we never watch Apple TV on our Apple TV, and only watch Apple TV on our Roku TV. We also watch Roku on our Roku.

Were they really? In the rare instances where the distinction between a service and a physical device isn't obvious, it's not hard to specify "the box/device" or "the service."
Apple has argued in court that Apple the theater company and Apple the hardware company are confusing. I think it's safe to assume that the hardware and the streaming being different are definitely too confusing too.

Either that, or Apple's making a bad faith argument in court. 🤔

The leaps that armchair lawyers take on social media these days never ceases to amaze me.
No, just sick and tired of Apple's marketing having to superlative-ize everything they do, at the expense of literally everyone else. It's obnoxious and I'm pissy today, so it is reflected in my comment.

I see what you are saying, but actually Apple is more than a hardware company these days and removing the "+" from the name of the streaming service may even make their trademark infringement case against the theater stronger.

Since you’re dropping the +, how much are you reducing the price?💰
Jokes on you. The reason they are removing the + from the name is so they can use it to add larger numbers. This obviously means yet another price hike. Think of poor old Apple…they need the money. They aren’t the richest company in the world anymore!
