I don’t mind it. Makes sense to name the App/service the same. Its like using the free app but you can also subscribe in the app to have more content. I was afraid that Tim will do Apple TV Max or Ultra next.

I mean the + made no sense. Normally you'd expect that there's "Apple TV" and that "Apple TV +" is like a "plus" version of it. It's like calling the App Store "iPhone +".

When I first subscribed to Apple TV + I was actually quite confused because I thought that there were two subscription services, a "regular" one and a "plus" one.

Not that calling the hardware and the subscription by the same name makes sense but whatever.

The "Apple TV" branding has been a mess for way too long. I think the set top box should just be called "Apple Media Player", since it handles way more than just TV and movies. The app can stay "Apple TV" since that where it lives, and maybe the streaming service should be "Apple Media", since it serves more than just TV chows.

btw Apple, I'm available for consultation... 😏

What about HomePod or TVPod.

Apple should scrap the hobby AppleTV box and just focus on the App and Service. I connect my iPhone to a portable monitor and use the iPhone speakers and works very well, only problem is that iOS 26 doesn’t have true multitasking as in when video is projected on the external monitor, I cannot do anything else on the device like checking messages without the external monitor going into mirroring mode. Apple give us true multitasking please.
This is a horrible tv watching experience even with true multitasking on iPhone…

Were they really? In the rare instances where the distinction between a service and a physical device isn't obvious, it's not hard to specify "the box/device" or "the service."
It happens. All the damn time. Especially confusing on Reddit where you have people wandering into the Apple TV+ Reddit with hardware issues and vice versa.

My assumption is this means the Apple TV-physical will be rebranded, and/or Apple TV-subscription will be available built in on all Apple TV-physical boxes. Or maybe the Apple TV-physical will merge the Apple TV-physical OS with the Apple TV-app. Could this signal the inevitable merger of the HomePod-AppleTV-HomeDevice? Or simply a future where we are offered Apple TV++?

Maybe combining HomePod mini and Apple TV into just HomePod the home hub for everything smart in your home.

I guess?

I have no idea how they are going to sell people on something like that.

Across my entire family I think there are probably 14 Apple TVs and every single one of them is mounted behind the TV. That’s not where I need or want a HomePod.

I agree. When I've recommended the Apple TV box to friends they say, "oh, I think I already have that on my TV...", then I have to go through the whole explanation while their eyes glaze over...

This will make things easier for people .
IKR? I don't know how this is not going to be confusing between the hardware called Apple TV and this subscription service called Apple TV. What am I missing?

We have the hardware Apple TV and we DO NOT buy the subscription service.

I already struggle to explain the difference to people. This will definitely make things easier…

Someone needed to justify their job this quarter, I swear that’s all this is
IKR?

To me, it was easy to explain the distinction between Apple TV vs. Apple TV+.
Apple TV is the hardware you buy and once you buy it, no ongoing subscription is needed. Apple TV+ is a subscription service for streaming certain "channels" and the likes.
