Here’s hoping we see the death of the AppleTV box, making way for a new segment of smart devices. Home Pods that can serve as a distributed wireless home theater system would be nice. Get a Bass-heavy Home Pod for a center channel with HDMI port that has all the AppleTV functionality, and the ability to assign HomePods (full or minis) through out the room, and let them do a sound test to figure out the best sound field, be it 2 minis, or 15 full sized units, or any mix in between.

THANK THE LORD

Apple TV Plus was a horrible name. Apple TV for the majority of people is an app either on their TV or phone. And you can subscribe to it if you want.

My prediction:

The ATV box is rebranded as the Apple Hub.

Watch Apple TV on the TV app on your Apple Hub. The Hub is also the heart of your Apple Home.

Then launch another product with a screen whilst is a Pro version of that.

Actually simplifies things if Apple TV becomes an all app and content product with no hardware.

So now it’s even more confusing? Maybe they will change the name of the tv box? I still wish they would make an actual TV

I guess they will change the name of the box and bump up the emphasis on gaming and other things. Because it has Arcade, Music, Sing (hopefully this will be improved soon), that would make sense. But they should’ve waited to launch their new Apple box before making this name change. Unless, like others are saying, (and I agree, it is likely), they are introducing a higher paid tier which will be the Apple TV plus. And maybe, this change will be introduced at the same time as the new Apple box - that would make sense. Ugh.

Sir, this is not a TV

I think the whole thing will just be under the Apple TV umbrella.

You can buy films and TV shows on Apple TV, you can subscribe to Apple TV, and you can buy a Apple TV box to watch it on if you want. I don't think it's confusing at all. Despite being unwieldy, no one called it Apple TV Plus anyway.

My guess, Apple is discontinuing the Apple TV.
I think it will be as well. At least in its current form. I can see a new device, like an Apple Home, or HomePad or something taking some of its functionality.

As for the Apple TV app, well it’s available to download (and subscribe to) on practically any other TV/media device. Nothing lost to Apple here. My guess would be the marketshare of people actually watching AppleTV+ on an AppleTV is probably low.

"Hub" is such a terrible name though.

Maybe they'll call the new device the "Apple Watch", because you use it to watch TV. I think that'd keep it in line with Apple's recent track-record of totally-not-confusing naming decisions.

Makes sense, they want to be a network (or organized content producer and supplier).. they have originals, shows, movies, live sports, live events, they want Formula 1 rights for broadcast in 2026, etc.. They want to be the integrated HUB for ALL your content from other providor, that the integration with third party apps and shows that Apple TV+ offers..

So it makes sense for it to BE APPLE TV..

The box which held that name for the past ~ 15 years, is just the STB that provides the best ACCESS to APPLE TV.

But today, TV’s do it too, it’s on android I think and one and on. I won’t be surprised to see a set of channels on SOME AIRLINES in the not too distant future.. with some free shows or initial episodes of owned content.

Another day. Another lie.

Press release they are rebranding Apple TV+, but fail to update the website. Classic Apple Intelligence...again.

I can only imagine the Requirements, User Stories, Dev Work, QA, Release Mgmt et al for a renaming convention at Apple.. ;)
