Funnily enough, I just cancelled apple tv, because I felt I wasn't getting value for my subscription, this was just recently. Now that they raised the price, I'm even more pleased.

There’s a new article on Fiction Horizon about this very topic - piracy is on the rise, and this is precisely why.

I wonder when we’ll get to the point where there’s one subscriber paying $96b a year? The golden age of subscription died many years ago. Sadly.

Apple Music wasn't worth it at the lower price. I got it for free with purchase of an Apple product, and I still didn't watch it. Is it because they had some taste of "success" of F1 they can justify the increase?

It's too bad Youtube ditched its pro content streaming service (when they had Cobra Kai etc). At that time they had the trifecta: pro-content, Youtuber content, and music for one price. It "felt" better to have less hands in your pocket by different companies on a monthly basis.

I digress, but why isn't there any competition for Youtube? Maybe there should be.

I’ll say it again, they should’ve purchased Paramount when it was selling for scraps just for the library alone. That would have given them ample of content to watch while waiting for new Apple Originals. But now, price hike for junk? Chances are they still give out free trial ever other month, which you cancel just before renewal and repeat. Wink.

I've not even used the last couple trials I was offered.

There's nothing good to watch on there past a few shows I've already seen.

My 55+ plan also includes Netflix (with ads) and I'm enjoying the freedom to leave good shows unmatched on ATV+ and Netflix until a future date. Until I switched to this plan, I would subscribe to one service for a month about once year, and burn through the shows.

P.s. Netflix with ads is not as bad as I was expecting. There are few of them, often very short, and not every show has all the ad breaks.
I have the same plan as you. Everything you write is true. But, if I didn’t get those services for free, I wouldn’t pay for them.

Apple today raised the monthly price of its Apple TV+ streaming service to $12.99 in the U.S., according to 9to5Mac's Benjamin Mayo.

Apple TV+ cost just $4.99 per month in the U.S. when it launched in 2019, but the price has now increased three times. The price went up to $6.99 per month in 2022, and then to $9.99 per month in 2023, and now the service costs $12.99 per month. The latest price increase applies to select other countries too.

An annual subscription to Apple TV+ will continue to cost $99 in the U.S., and Apple One bundle prices are not changing, the report said.

The new price is effective immediately for new Apple TV+ subscribers, but various free trial options remain available. For existing subscribers, the price increase will take effect 30 days after their next renewal date, the report said.

In a statement shared with 9to5Mac, Apple attempted to justify the price increase by noting that it has continued to expand its library of original content, and it touted the value of its Apple One plans with multiple Apple services.

Many other streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix have raised prices in recent years.

this kinda feels like a way to get more people onto apple one

Everyone saying they get these services for free with their cellular plan haven’t shopped their plans. Unlimited plans are $17-$20 a month if you shop.
If you’re willing to live with the deprioritized data that most MVNOs offer, that’s fine. But I am a busy person and don’t have time for that. Nonetheless, my T-Mobile plans offers decent value.

If T-Mobile ended the deals with ATV+ and Netflix, I'd definitely subscribe for a month of each annually to see more of my favorites. ATV+ shows have been very high on my list. Netflix used to be rather low on my list, but now I can't wait to see more Black Doves or Dept. Q.

While I can only speak for myself, as a film buff and appreciator of channels that add compelling, unique and engaging content, Apple did a good job until a year or so ago. Since then I find most all the content to be 'cookie cutter'. Having canceled months ago when I check for new content, its rare. So paying more for less isn't going to happen where I'm concerned, LOL

The Criterion Channel was made for people like us… at least when it comes to classic cinema.

I somewhat wonder how much of this is related to how the USD is holding against other currencies in the world. Hold on to your butts for price reveals mid September.
