I somewhat wonder how much of this is related to how the USD is holding against other currencies in the world. Hold on to your butts for price reveals mid September.

Tim is welcome to reveal whatever bonkers pricing he wants.

His products are all optional and discretionary spending beyond probably a phone and a computer ... which can be sourced from many places and last a long long time.

Keeping the annual subscription price the same?

This price increase is clearly aimed at people who subscribe for a few months, binge everything that's new, then cancel. Repeat.
That will remain the better deal for all platforms for the foreseeable future. Outside of Netflix which my kids watch...none of the platforms needs a constant subscription.

The goal of everything with Tim Cook Apple ... get more and more people subscribing for more and more $.

It's so depressing to watch the company trajectory from where it once was (focused on actual products and quality, not just a huge subscription operation).
It’s not just Apple. It’s western capitalism - particularly in the U.S. Corporate America wants us to subscribe to everything - even cars. It’s the Pay Forever concept. And it could be the only way to satisfy Wall Street - which demands financial growth every quarter. It is also unsustainable.

Disappointing to see a price hike. Was bound to happen especially when competitors are increasing the prices. However the content library is small. Some very good shows though. Glad that there is no hike in my country.

Just this morning I subscribed to 99 euro yearly plan. I had not seen this news. I do live in Europe but I am 99% sure we are getting price increase soon also.

OK, but as a person who does that with other services, I don't think it's going to work out. The reason I do that is because I'm cost conscious. This makes me less likely to watch Apple's shows. I haven't seen them yet. I'm not invested in them. I'll go to a cheaper service because there's plenty of them

That's why competition is good for consumers

Also, for a lot of people *piracy* is the alternative to paying for streaming. And that's OK because if training AI is fair use, so is downloading TV shows

Apple is going down the tubes, they wont be in business much longer Im telling ya. I give it until 2030 and then they will be outta business. No wonder MLB dropped them with their friday night baseball contract.
Look, I'm as much of an Apple critic as anyone but there's no way they're going out of business anytime soon. In a lot of ways they're like Microsoft in the 90s: terrible products, but slightly better in some ways than the competition and a huge, nearly locked in, install base that makes excuses for their terrible UI and software quality

Although I wouldn't say Apple's products are entirely terrible. For example, their hardware is still pretty great (although they've gotten greedy with Memory and SSD pricing) so they're not even at the Microsoft in the 90s point yet. But it's coming unless they get a CEO who is more user-centric than stockholder-centric. And I don't think Tim Cook is capable of recognizing how important that is

I've started to think these behemoths are going to hold onto the market for a long time, but eventually free and open source software is going to eat their lunch and that will be a huge change in society. Way more important than the AI "revolution" we keep hearing about, especially if AI really does take off and starts costing people their jobs. Free open source software will become a necessity for people who want to use software but can't find a job

The worst is yet to come: wait when a "proper" (meaning more/less competitive with other AI models) Apple Intelligence will be available and we'll see a price increase of Apple One for sure.

Currently provided with my T Mobile plan. If, however, I end up paying for it, then 'good bye'. Not enough content for the new fee. The streaming fees for services has got out of hand and the ratio of content I watch to content I do not care for is too high in a lot of cases and Apple TV + is one of them. And for those that point out that my cellular plan cost is already paying for it, I am very happy that my plan is very competitive with or without Apple TV + and Netflix (add supported only so I top it up to ad free premium) streaming cost subsidies.

In general I despise price increase (gouging?) but for this type of services that nobody needs, I am perfectly ok. It's like increasing the price of Rolex or BMW.

I will keep it for me as I consider it worth the price, people how think it's too expensive will cancel it the way I cancelled YouTube when they increased above what I considered fine.

Regular cable connected to TiVo Romeo (circa 2014) including Lifetime subscription still works better than any streaming service.

Good times when Steve Jobs decided to innovate and put music songs at 99c
This was a revolutionary idea and stopped the piracy pretty much
Now Tim doesn't care and
from what I'm reading a bunch of people are choosing alternative methods ...

Entertainment divisions learned nothing from cord cutters. Subbing to all the streamers is now more expensive than cable.
Unless you only subscribe to a service for a month or two a year.

I think Apple is being reasonable here considering they are NOT increasing the annual price. Anybody that wants the service year round can pay the annual price and avoid the increase.

For someone like me, $12.99 for one month where I catch up on the shows that I like is a pretty good value.

While i like my ATV+ its not worth 12.99. Lack of programing that i enjoy. You bet this means a price increase for Apple One is coming.

Here is an idea get rid of the Apple Arcade and stop giving me crap as as an excuse to add "value" to your products.
Not even close to being worth $12.99 a month. If (when?) Apple One increases it may just be time to cancel as I struggle to justify the price now.

They've raised it $6 whole dollars in the past few years. Certainly not unreasonable. They have the most bang for the buck. And Apple+ has the best Sci-Fi of any of the streamers and they don't cancel those shows after one year (for the most part). Further, they don't have tiers - everyone is ad free and gets 4K.

You forgot “death spiral”.

When someone says this, buy AAPL, however, I can’t guarantee a gain of 47,360.45%.

I only have it because its included with my student Apple Music Subscription but once I lose that there's no way im subscribing separately there just isn't enough to justify me paying for it
