So, only one of my purchases are showing up.

I just downloaded 3 episodes of The Fresh Beat Band for the kids on my iPad2 and transferred the purchases to my Mac. Not showing up on ATV.

My 4 year old loves that show. :)

Being an early adopter who dropped 300 bucks on a 1st-gen Apple TV, it feels like a slight betrayal to see these updates (Netflix, Vimeo, etc.) available only to the users who paid $100 for a 2nd-gen ATV... I always told people that one of the (many) reasons iPods prevailed over other MP3 players was that Apple kep supporting/updating them long after you purchased it, but now I'm feeling the opposite with my Apple TV

Time to upgrade..get the Apple TV 3 this fall..

This isn't an iPod, where the software was hardly ever updated and when it was the OS on an old iPod classic was pretty bare bones.

To complain though that your 4+ year old original Apple TV is not getting the same software upgrades as the most recent release of the device is about as silly as someone with a 4+ year old original iPhone complaining about not getting iOS 5.

You have obviously never been near an ATV1. As I was pointing out in a separate post, the ATV1 does HD over local- and wide-area networks just fine, and it runs YouTube perfectly as well, so there are no obvious technical reasons that would prevent it from streaming Netflix or Vimeo.

Wanting a 4-year-old iPhone to run iOS5 is definitely silly. Then again, that was your example, not mine.

i just checked and everything I'm missing is from 20th century fox.

does anyone have any tv shows from them in your purchased history?

Do you have the "Redownload HD content when available" option checked (from iTunes)?

Yeah. And when I go to download the Pilot episode, it gives me the option to chose SD or HD. Who knows what the deal is. Hopefully they eventually show up. It's odd that you're having issues with Viacom, as all my Survivor episodes are showing.

I couldn't agree more. If a series is on iTunes I buy it, if it's not I torrent it. If the producers want my money they need to have it available here (I'm in the UK) as soon as it's available in America. Like you said, how do they not understand that?!?

At least you have iPlayer in the UK. Why can't I pay the broadcasting fee and watch everything on iPlayer from outside the UK? Then the BBC wouldn't have to a lay off that many people. A lot of the stuff on public TV over here are just BBC documentaries, broadcasted with a few months/years delayed.

Moreover, Torrents don't have that unskippable content.

Ah well,...

I have an episode of Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles that I got for free in the purchases tab. According to Wikipedia (reliable?), it's 20th Cent. Fox

I hope this works in Canada! I'll have to test when I get home.

I have movies and tv shows on a few of my computers and I would love it if they were all in the one place!

I don't get it. Vimeo's content seems pretty weak. Hopefully won't have to wait too long for Hulu +.

They are starting to get the shows on my account. My available tv show episode count just jumped from 86 to 91.

I purchased the 1st gen Apple TV on August 24th 2010. It was "current" less than a year ago so it certainly isn't the same as someone complaining about their original iPhone not getting iOS 5 because the product hasn't been sold for a few years! If i'd waited a month I would have paid less for the 2nd gen and got these updates*

*I'm glad i didn't wait as I wouldn't want to stream content but i'm moaning for others!

just checked purchases on iPhone iTunes Store and it now has a option to redownload purchased tv shows.

Thank you. Not sure why the article up top only mentions AppleTV. The same functionality was also added to iTunes as well (well, added to the iTunes Store).

This is good. Makes it a lot easier for me to buy a TV show for us to watch later and not have to worry about which machine I bought it on!

It's not about hardware limitations, it's about product cycles. If Apple updated all of their old hardware with the latest and greatest software updates then it would give people very little reason to purchase new equipment.

more appearing...

Some more shows have now appeared in my purchased list so it's obviously a gradual thing...

This is a HUGE UPDATE...

so literally, if you have Apple TVs around the US, you can watch your entire purchased library on the apple TV :D

now if appleTV gets iCloud media library access and or purchased movies ability, its over for the competitors

also,:apple:TV and itunes need to add support for more video extensions besides mp4/m4v

No it isn't. People go to where they can get content for the best prices, and that isn't from iTunes. Amazon completely decimates them on the prices of movies, tv episodes, and full TV shows. Community Season 1 on iTunes = 65 dollars. Community Season 1 on Amazon = 24 dollars. People won't buy an Apple TV if these price discrepancies continue.

Dude, do you honestly think Apple didn't put some sort of country checker into the system? I'm sure when you sign on from Denmark, you'll be sad to see that your purchased content is not there, even if you have a US-based itunes account.

I'm sure Netflix does the same thing. They wouldn't want to risk getting sued by the industry...

The industry totally sucks, by the way... Seriously why do they have to license it in every country in the world??? Why doesn't 1 license cover that content regardless where the user originates??? It's going to take years, maybe even a decade before this technology is completely unlocked thanks to a stubborn record and tv industry execs... Meanwhile the rest of us will just work our way around it by downloading newsgroups, torrents, and other technologies...

As an owner of several iPods (4G, 5G), I can attest that the moment the next version came out, there was maybe if you were lucky one more firmware update for the one you had. That's gotten a lot better with the iPod Touch (2G got quite a long support time).

I also own a 1st-gen AppleTV, the 160GB model. Yes, it sucks that I'm not getting software updates to it, but still: it's an awesome little device still. I certainly don't regret my purchase, and it was instrumental in the post-Satellite transition which ended up saving us its price in just 4-5 months. We use it every day, still.

That having been said, I am tempted to buy the next rev of the ATV2. Well, I'm tempted on the current ATV2, but it seems like it is getting long in the tooth by Apple standards so I'd rather wait.
