Watched the first Mankind episode and it was just ok. Watched the second ep, and the feminism is strong with this one. For those that enjoy clumsy propaganda as entertainment, I'm sure you'll love it.

Trying SEE next.

Yep, every one of the new shows has a strong feminist message. Morning Show - female hosts fighting the patriarchy and dealing with #metoo issues. For All Mankind - female astronauts fighting the patriarchy. Dickinson - female poet fighting the patriarchy. SEE - “look at our super diverse casting”. It’s more of the same woke political messages that Netflix and others feel the need to work into every show. No, thank you - I’ll pass on your bland PC propaganda shows.

The idea is so you keep subscribed and don't subscription surf. I also think they would do it that way so at the end of a year when the trial is up you can't ditch the service if you want to see the end. They are aiming for a continuous money flow not people to subscribe for a month and drop it.
Agreed...my point was that pricing the services this low make it a low risk for people to take a flyer - there is nothing they could do to prevent people from canceling and signing up again - most of my friends used to cancel HBO right after each season of GOT.

Wow, another streaming service that I won't be subscribing to.

Buy a new iPhone and get one year free. I predict you'll be getting something free or practically free.

I used to download torrents and stream them to my Apple TV for free, but as the streaming services got better, I realized it was worth paying for stuff like Netflix. So much interesting Sci-Fi shows to watch - it's great!

Amazon gave me some free streaming too - I wasn't even aware of or wanting their streaming, but because I have Amazon Prime, I get that free also.

Netflix just told us that they are putting in $2 Billion for new show production - wow! Netflix got so good in the last few years, I'm justifying keeping it. (Black Mirror was great, and they get some good movies now). But I was thinking of cancelling Netflix about 1.5 years ago. I'll just keep a little longer and try to quite maybe in summer.

We are going to have tons of new "mini-series" shows in the next several years as the battle of the streaming shows fights for our attention! It will probably settle down after about 3 years I think, but for now, it's a streaming shows bonanza on all fronts.

Won’t argue with another Prince fan but it was rumored and not known that it might be Apple originals only.
Apple pretty much covered what the content would be like in the March event.
And the comment about the pricing, instead of throwing millions on producing content why not just invest that crazy amount of cash in licensing just like what the Apple Music department does?
Who knows, why care?
I don’t get the target customer.
Do you really need to?
If you feel left out, no worries, maybe something down the line will fit your taste.
What is Apples long term goal with this?
This should be obvious, to lock in, expand and profit.

I'm confused - I qualify for the free 1 year subscription which is active, but on almost all content there are fees to watch a tv series or film. What's the point of 'paying' a month fee if they charge to rent per film? (unlike Netflix)

I don't mind feminism. I've watched tons of shows with feminist themes and enjoyed them greatly. But, what I dislike is heavy-handed anti-otherist propaganda. It seems all of the men in FAM are bad for one reason or another. I wish I could have seen a show with the same alternate history without it being anti-male. There's a coward, a cheater, a chauvinist, a literal Nazi. 🚽

I'm going to give each show a try. So far SEE is interesting. I'm about 1.5 episodes in.

I‘ve had the same issue.
Contacted Apple support to sort out.
The only option was to go via browser on my MacBook
http://tv.apple.com/de (for Germany)
There I found the option for one year.
The same didn’t work on iPad as it started the app instead.
Thanks.
this worked for me too.
Some pointers I noticed...they may help others who are not getting free 1 year option. I had 2 apple ids. One for my main iCloud and other for App Store. So in my iPhone 11 Pro I was not getting 1 year. If I logout from App Store and use main Apple ID for iCloud, then my app updates system gets broken as I have downloaded all apps with App Store linked Apple ID.
then I registered for 1 year free via my Mac and then setup family sharing for my App Store id .... and it worked.

That's not Apple TV+ content. Those fees are for renting and buying Non-Apple original shows and movies (or subscribing to other channels like HBO). Most of this content used be housed in the iTunes store, which is now gone if you're running the latest versions of macOS and iOS.

Really enjoyed the premiere of See. It definitely requires some suspension of disbelief, but it's a grower. I'm certainly going to continue watching it. Seems like it could potentially be a bit of a sprawling epic.

So far I have watched the premieres of See, and For All Mankind. Both are excellent.

Also it is definitely not true that the language and content with all these shows is timid or sanitised for families. Tentatively very impressed so far with ATV+ 👍

So far the show are just average at best. Will give it a year, since I have a free trial, but I have a reminder set up next October to cancel, if it does not get any better. I would not pay for this service with what is offered right now.

iTunes Store is still alive and well in iOS. Big yeah they just merge stuff from there and other subscription services with their own stuff in the TV app

I can understand the content being light. But the app being garbage isn’t excusable. Heck the app itself should be the major strength here. Instead it’s probably the worst streaming app I’ve ever seen. The UI is horrible. It’s filled with competitors content that Apple is desperate to sell you.

So I watched the morning show. Not as bad I expected although had to forward through some obvious crap. It ends. “Up next” pops up with other shows I’ve watched. But why didn’t episode 2 pop up as option?

So have to back out. Find episode 2. Press play.
Watch a recap of episode one. Credits. No way to skip these.

Is this really the best that the brilliant minds at apple can come up with? Maybe they need to hire someone who knows how to make a decent app.

I‘m beginning to think Eddy Cue doesn’t have a clue what a good app is. Apple Music, News+ and now TV+ all suffer when it should be, or used to be, Apple strength. It’s just not simple or intuitive.
But I don’t have this problem though. On my Apple TV I have next episode on Up Next and I can play it right away.

I am wondering if licensing is really all that necessary. This isn’t like Spotify vs Apple Music, where the typical consumer subscribes to just one of the two.

With video streaming services, there is room for multiple subscriptions. Apple will likely just end up replicating Netflix or Amazon Prime’s existing third party content library anyways.

What I suspect Apple is trying to do here is make the TV app the default destination for users. This in turn incentivises more video streaming companies to support the tv app, and Apple earns from their cut of the subscription revenue. Meanwhile, the TV app will serve to integrate all your content and help consumers locate the shows they want to watch more easily.

So I don’t think TV+ needs make a profit in itself, unlike Netflix. That’s also why I have for the longest time argued that Apple didn’t need to buy Netflix.

Since when has apple produced quality software? That's always been their weakness, which is hilarious that they are now trying to pivot to services.

Eddy seems a likable person, but much of what he touches is lackluster. From a personality standpoint, I like Eddy better than most of the execs we've come to know. I just wish he had the technical chops to go along with his swagger.

Since when? iOS 12 was super solid and it’s just released last year. 🙄
iOS 1 to 4 was a gold standard for mobile phone OS.

Came up properly on a different episode. So maybe it was just the one.

Basically one can argue Netflix is a tv streaming app. Atv is primarily a Store app to sell content that can also stream video as long as you buy it.

Netflix has to make enough money to keep buying content.

Apples business in this instance is selling content and it’s own service. It’s just a different animal. It changes everything in what Apple can charge for its own service because it’s a Store first.

Apple is trying to monetize its billion plus users. It’s app is about selling you more. It also makes a half baked effort to let you see your paid for content.

Netflix already got paid if you’re in the app.

I haven't bought any significant Apple tech (certainly not after September 10) this year, currently rocking an XS and got the free year! Happy days.

me too, can't figure out what i bought that made me eligible. bought a refurb XS on amazon before sept 10, and had an iphone X replaced under applecare+ in late sept. bought airpods pro the other day but that's not on the list.

Currently watching the free Dickinson pilot and omg how awful is Jane Krakowski in this! 5 mins in and I am waiting for her „SNL Skit“ to be over. She’s way overacting. That’s all I have to say haha

i guess she's actually jenna maroney in real life. i always hated her in ally mcbeal.

I really don’t like how Apple put their shoes at the front of my What’s Next. Why are the “next” when I haven’t watched them?

How rude of the Apple bosses. Come on guys and gals, shoes off in the porch please not in front of his TV menu.
