Experts have found that for you to see a difference between 1080p and 4k, you need a giant 80" TV and sit as close as 6.5 feet.
Short: Nobody needs 4k, you can't see it. It's a marketing gimmick.
HDR on the other hand, makes a real difference.

You sound like somebody that doesn't have a 4K TV. The difference is immense. I own a 55" 4K TV with HDR and it's incredible compared to 1080p. Leagues ahead.
I suggest you go and buy one and then make a judgement.
This is complete nonsense, sorry. So you think they would have released a 4K Apple TV in March 2012?
I was also disappointed that the fourth Apple TV was 1080p only. However, the WWDC keynote showed me that they are clearly aware of 4K, but they needed one big thing to arrive: HEVC. Without it, the bandwidth required to watch 4K would have been too high. Apple states that you need 8 Mbit/s for streaming content in 1080p, while 4K eats up the bandwidth. Roku states that you need up to 25 Mbit/s. That's way too much for Apple standards and the only way to bring it down is by using HEVC. They had to wait for it, and the next Apple TV will be unveiled this fall with 4K content on iTunes, being the first 4K streaming box which has no gigantic requirements for streaming 4K.

In some posts people complain about apple jumping the gun on things and doing it too early. Others people whine about apple taking too long.It bothers me that this is a big deal. The apple I remember woild have released the ATV 3 in 4k. Multiple years ahead not barely scathing behind.
A big question is though, will they allow HD audio passthrough? Or support HD audio formats? Or will they still limit us to DD?
Can you provide something that is scientific fact? I have read through your articles, they are all subjective opinions. No problem. The point was just that people are falling for a lot of marketing deception.
And a lot of them won't accept actual scientific facts.
Wouldn’t it be more awesome if they housed it all (mac mini, TV & Homepod) in the form of a soundbar? The Home Pod is to big to place it under a tv.

Be thankful Apple doesn't go ahead and ship plain 4K now - and then next year release a 4K HDR - Timmy will love to get paid twiceA little frustrating that they don't already have 4k. I mean come on, it's 2017, and we still don't have it, AND we are now forced to buy new Apple TV's, yet again, if we want it.

sounds like you don't remember much at all. though i think this is true that's not apple. Steve released things way way way ahead of their time that took years to catch up to.
Isn't his point that resolution isn't everything? He does not say that resolution does not matter. Nobody here is telling you that 4k is the end all, but they are saying it helps. What are you not understanding about that?
I hope the new Apple TV will be able to switch frame rate to 24fps. I also hope Apple will offer content that will be able to match UHD-discs. I think the 1080p content is decent from iTunes. What I miss the most is a higher bit rate and lossless audio. I have a 4K projector and an 90" screen.

Love how the only person talking sense is getting bashed by everyone – even people who think that resolution could benefit a smooth image. LOL. There should be absolutely no debate about 4K and 1080p. Your eye can’t see the difference unless the screen is really close and/or huge. If you think you can see a difference, bravo, that’s how marketing works. Any difference you really see is just years of display technology having developed ahead, and these displays also feature 4K, but it isn’t the thing making everything better.
Do your reading and stop ******** all over people talking sense. https://carltonbale.com/does-4k-resolution-matter/
