Ha again!

Logan
Shot in 3.4K (limited scenes 1080p!!!!)
VFX Rendered in 2K
Digital Intermediate at 4K

Ok, sorry, maybe I got the wrong info......HA AGAIN!

Seriously all you can do is argue the tech specs on movies now?

Experts have found that for you to see a difference between 1080p and 4k, you need a giant 80" TV and sit as close as 6.5 feet.

Short: Nobody needs 4k, you can't see it. It's a marketing gimmick.

HDR on the other hand, makes a real difference.

You sound like somebody that doesn't have a 4K TV. The difference is immense. I own a 55" 4K TV with HDR and it's incredible compared to 1080p. Leagues ahead.

I suggest you go and buy one and then make a judgement.

Clearly you don't know what you are talking about because some internet troll told you its impossible to see the difference and "here are all the reasons why."

Perfectly put!
This is complete nonsense, sorry. So you think they would have released a 4K Apple TV in March 2012?

I was also disappointed that the fourth Apple TV was 1080p only. However, the WWDC keynote showed me that they are clearly aware of 4K, but they needed one big thing to arrive: HEVC. Without it, the bandwidth required to watch 4K would have been too high. Apple states that you need 8 Mbit/s for streaming content in 1080p, while 4K eats up the bandwidth. Roku states that you need up to 25 Mbit/s. That's way too much for Apple standards and the only way to bring it down is by using HEVC. They had to wait for it, and the next Apple TV will be unveiled this fall with 4K content on iTunes, being the first 4K streaming box which has no gigantic requirements for streaming 4K.

It bothers me that this is a big deal. The apple I remember woild have released the ATV 3 in 4k. Multiple years ahead not barely scathing behind.
In some posts people complain about apple jumping the gun on things and doing it too early. Others people whine about apple taking too long.

It's like everybody has their own vision for how apple actually is that isn't based on reality at all. "The apple I know"? Ha! You don't know apple. They do whatever they feel like at any given time

A big question is though, will they allow HD audio passthrough? Or support HD audio formats? Or will they still limit us to DD?

There's already great hope, and even some Homepod code implying maybe better than just hope. However, Apple being Apple, I wouldn't be surprised to have a "5" hit with some juicy reason(s) to upgrade (4K and maybe 4K+HDR) and then a "6" on down the road bringing on the modern audio codecs.

But I'll hope that Apple has finally decided to roll out a full toe-to-toe competitor to the "bag of hurt" instead of stepping forward for our eyes but leaving our ears in the distant past for at least one more generation of this product.

No problem. The point was just that people are falling for a lot of marketing deception.
And a lot of them won't accept actual scientific facts.
Can you provide something that is scientific fact? I have read through your articles, they are all subjective opinions.

Wouldn’t it be more awesome if they housed it all (mac mini, TV & Homepod) in the form of a soundbar? The Home Pod is to big to place it under a tv.

Not a bad idea either.

I envision the Homepod just growing by 1 inch or so and put all the innards into that (round) space. I am sure some components can be combined (i.e. Processor chip, SSDs, power supply) Probably would have to suspend all innards in a vibrate proof way.

I would buy that as soon as available.

In the meantime those complaining about yet another version of the aTV should know by now that Apple's salami tactic will give them one slice at a time:)

Best way to avoid upgrading all the time is to adjust ones "MUST HAVE" wishes and skip a few generations, which is what I do.

By generation 6 or 7 , I may look into this. For now everything Apple I have works just fine.

I hope the new Apple TV will be able to switch frame rate to 24fps. I also hope Apple will offer content that will be able to match UHD-discs. I think the 1080p content is decent from iTunes. What I miss the most is a higher bit rate and lossless audio. I have a 4K projector and an 90" screen.

A little frustrating that they don't already have 4k. I mean come on, it's 2017, and we still don't have it, AND we are now forced to buy new Apple TV's, yet again, if we want it.
Be thankful Apple doesn't go ahead and ship plain 4K now - and then next year release a 4K HDR - Timmy will love to get paid twice

Very very true. Your statement sums up my frustration and really gets to the heart of the current Apple.

Just purchased a "new" Mac mini with a fourth generation chip. Seriously. Love the computer, but c'mon.

sounds like you don't remember much at all. though i think this is true that's not apple. Steve released things way way way ahead of their time that took years to catch up to.

Very rarely I would say Apple has been first to something. More often they wait for the technology to be ready and they do a much better job at implementing a product. iPod after MP3 players, iPhone after smartphones, iPad after tablets.

Rather than insulting my memory, why don't you cite some specific examples of what you mean?

Since these rumors started I've been looking in to buying a new 4K capable receiver. That way I'll be able to playback Dolby Atmos!

That would be nice - but probably not likely. There isn't a current streamer out yet that does auto resolution switching. It's on the wishlists of lots of people.

As for matching UHD discs, doubt that as well. I think I've read that Vudu UHD is around 25Mbps whereas I think the Ultra HD BR spec is around 35Mbps. At this point you'll always get the best picture overall with physical media - especially with your 90" screen (which sounds like an awesome experience BTW).

Apple knows very well they can't please everyone as a wisdom once said: "Please all and you'll please none". They know that there will always be some whinings about anything.

If apple don't refresh their aTV, some will say apple isn't doing enough etc. But when they added some nice things, some will say it's gimmicks.

Well people, if you don't like it, then don't buy it. Buy and enjoy other products you want, and keep your mouth shut.

ATV 4k+HDR - sounds like great but this is Apple - how much are they charging for this? you would think it will slide in at current prices but wouldn't shock me this model comes at $ 299

Love how the only person talking sense is getting bashed by everyone – even people who think that resolution could benefit a smooth image. LOL. There should be absolutely no debate about 4K and 1080p. Your eye can’t see the difference unless the screen is really close and/or huge. If you think you can see a difference, bravo, that’s how marketing works. Any difference you really see is just years of display technology having developed ahead, and these displays also feature 4K, but it isn’t the thing making everything better.

Do your reading and stop ******** all over people talking sense. https://carltonbale.com/does-4k-resolution-matter/

Whatever...
