I agree. Something is coming out before Mountain Lion or this is pointless.

Or they expect to release new computers before ML is ready...?

----------

Well at least we might get a new mac before Mountain Lion, I don't see why Apple would put those resources in Lion updates if the hardware supporting it only arrives once MLion is the standard.

Unless of course they release a HiDPI Thunder Bolt Display (that would annoy the heck out of the Mac Pro crowd since their machine of choice still hasn't been refreshed for TB).

I think that's coming soon. I bet Intel's new chips are ready to go, or are at least in the manufacturing stage now.

Wow they replaced robot's mighty mouse feet with hockey puck ones. What could it mean?

Seriously? It has a completely different type of material / reflection altogether (sharper reflections, more defined environment light source). It's even a different model than the previous. I like the new.

I commented on the reflection and texturing. How many Maya (3ds, etc...) licenses do you own?

I'll rather pay for a proper protection. This is completely useless if the thief doesn't boot to system and reinstalls right away, which is a pretty likely scenario.

These guys claim that their software is persistent and recovers itself even after reformatting the hdd, so we'll see... http://www.absolute.com/lojackforlaptops/

I don't give a damn about the Mac itself anyway - the insurance company will the compensation, but data loss is what matters to me. I accidentally wiped my TimeCapsule a couple of days before and was about to set a new backup soon. Bad luck.

Perhaps they are thinking of increasing the resolution of the standalone monitor as well and are wanting existing Lion users to support it and thus buy it without forcing them to upgrade.

With HiDPI coming, what does mean for current (standard) hardware? Will we see anything sharper or will we be able to simply view some things at a larger size?

Careful... Automator + Terminal = Terminator!
.Net + Skydrive = Skynet..

It's happening :0

In OS X 10.7.4, the Automator robot has taken on a somewhat darker tone...

Dundun DUN!

I don't find this usefull at all. This will be the same 14x9 displayy realestate. They should have just upped the resolution to 19x12 on the 15'', at least as an option

I think HiDPI icons in 10.7 Lion doesn't necessarily mean a new hardware upgrade.

Maybe they just want to give the option to users who run Thunderbolt Displays or maybe they're going to release Retina Thunderbolt Display - many people attach the displays to older Mac Mini's or Pro's.

Also I'm convinced that the MB Pro's will be launched along with Mountain Lion, not sooner. Apple doesn't usually support older OS on newest hardware - you can't (at least not easily) boot a copy of Snow Leopard on latest Macbook Airs for example.
And it makes sense, Mac OS is no Windows, why keep the backward compatibility? This way Apple can focus always on current OS and put more effort in the security, stability and usability on newest system (while older OSes still get upgraded on older machines).

It's a win win situation and the reason why sometimes people with other OSes run into problems - they're just too fragmented and there's always room for error when you have to maintain compatibility on plethora of hardware configurations.

Just my 2 .c

Am I the only one who discovered the stick(or whatever) that guy carries changed from Aluminium color to liquid Metal color

"Apple Tweaking More Icons", or "Apple Re-arranging the Deck Chairs"?

Seriously - wouldn't more Apple OSX users be happier if Active Directory support went from "sometimes works" to "mostly works"? Or if CIFS support improved to "mostly works"?

Or, should Apple OSX users read the tea leaves and look for another platform?

If it's not an Itoy, Apple doesn't seem to care anymore.

I fully agree. Apple should FIRST focus on 100% functionality, problems fixing before keeping themselves busy with gimmicks.

I'm still waiting to get the smb stuff working as it should be for example. Document sharing hardly works or only works for a brief moment until you reboot

I want retina ****! Apple where is it? That waiting is killing me!

And please release 17" macbook pro at the same time as others!
