5K for a display? Bahahahahahahahaha.
Yep.

Probably a very good monitor for people who need an excellent pro display.

It’s clearly not for you, or me, or any “normal” consumer.

Its existence and pricing also doesn’t affect your, or my, life in any way.

This display at $3.5k/4k with stand and nano tech included would be way more palatable to purchase it. Now paying $7k for these options. Wow....

If you were expecting something in the range of $1300 you haven’t looked into pro monitors with these sort of specifications.

Clearly a monitor designed for a specific subset of professionals. And like others said, there will be buyers in that demographic.

I understand that the specifications set it apart, I dabble in video production as well and am far from a layman. I am not asking for a lower price with all other features remaining equal. Far from it. I even specifically mentioned as much in my comment by LISTING the features I'd like and the price I'd be willing to pay, so I am not sure what you are getting at?

That well known display standard resolution of "6K" what is it for other than extraction of money?

I agree that $1000 for the stand is ridiculous but I love how everyone here complains that Apple is abandoning the pro market but when they finally make something for a niche pro market and price it accordingly everyone complains that it doesn’t have mass market appeal.

I’d say this is pro plus. The top end. Nope that’s not me. And I’m fine that Apple caters to this niche. It’s great. But surely there’s room between a Mac mini and this Mac Pro that isn’t an all in one.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I was even willing to part with two thousand of my hard-earned dollars but this is clearly not a product intended for folks like us.
It's a shame. I am trying to figure out what monitor to pair with my newly acquired 2018 mbp (going from a 2013) and despite being willing to pay up to $2,000, none of the 3rd party offerings hit all the marks like the Thunderbolt Display did. If it was even a meager 4K with updated ports I'd shell out 2X original price.

Disagreed. I work on many studios in LA and NY. A lot of them use regular iMacs and while I see Mac Pro's they are usually the base model with additional RAM. Companies are wise in it comes to budgets. Buying a base model MP and display will set you back more than $10k That's a lot of dough.
Apple will sell but will lose a lot of sales due the extreme price. They should have and entry level MP and display at $5k max.

They do. It's called an iMac Pro.

When the 30" ACD launched it cost $3299. That was 2004. In today's money that is roughly $4500.

Exactly. The griping is so much sour grapes from people who simply aren't the target market, and don't understand the target market.

I used to think I was a pro. I am certainly NOT the 'pro' that Apple targets. When they say, "pro" they really mean it!!!

This is a refreshingly honest post. Too bad so many others here can't seem to bring themselves to realize this.

I have no problem with 5000UD 6K Ultra Pro screen. Where I have a problem is lack of 2000 2500USD very good Apple sreen with thunderbolt support.
I still have 20 inch and 23 inch ACD. They are OK after all these years but I have issues with connecting them to USB C Macs...

This seems to be the crux of the issue. The enthusiast/semi-pro market feels overlooked. I get it.

I love this place. Gripes for a lack of pro tools. Grips when pro tools are priced like pro tools. Okay.

Exactly.

They are after the 1% of the Pro market it seems. Honestly, even in media companies the number of these systems (monitors and/or macs) that will get sold will be 1 out of 20 or higher. In the one I work for we have maybe 2-3 of systems like this out of 200 people. One of them is for our demo room as a show-case.

I've been hoping that I could sell my Thunderbolt Display and Dell 27" 4K display to maybe pay for 2/3 of whatever new $999 display apple releases. I figure worst case, it's $1299.
HOLY **** WHAT THE ****
I get that it's for pros. The thing is, I AM a pro. Pro photographer and web designer both. For a decent size agency as well as freelance. And this is so far out of our reach it's hilarious. I was simply hoping for an updated 4K monitor that would serve as a thunderbolt 3 hub. Take the Thunderbolt display. Make it 4k. Switch all thunder bolt ports to thunder bolt 3 except for one or 2 for legacy use. The end.

If you look at what might be a somewhat comparable Eizo professional display, that's around $5.5k. And at only 4k resolution. To me, if you need those specifications, that's the going rate. If you don't, there are very nicely spec'd displays at a much lower price point from other manufacturers. I've got the LG 5k ultra fine - works really really well. I've been eyeing the Eizo, but now will spring for this one later this year.

There is a lack of curves on this new monitor. Along with the new Mac Pro, I guess we are coming back to rectangular shapes on Apple's computers.

My last Apple monitor lasted ten years (just died). Gave it to my wife three years ago.

I'll be getting one for my 16" MBP.

Just shows how good and pro you falsely think to be. There is always a level up.

Reminds me of a friend that made roughly $10M/year who bought what he thought was a large and expensive yacht. He spent his first night on it. Woke up the next morning to see a yacht that dwarfed his moored nearby; there is always a next level up.

Do you know, when i saw that new stand, i thought 'wow, they're bringing back the old G4 iMac monitor setup, fantastic!' I didn't expect the stand alone to cost twice the base model price of a G4 iMac though!

If you can’t afford it, you’re not the target market. Those who use them as tools to make money—the target market—will be satisfied. Complaints by whiners are meaningless.

P.S. Yes, the stand is quite expensive.

So the target market is people who are completely unaffected about price considerations at all? And don't give me that pro BS. I am a pro but $6k for a monitor is bad business....period! And i'm not whining, I'm stating an opinion...just like you!!!!!
