Have there been any big updates in the last few years? They all have been incremental
Although I update iPhones every year, Apple Watch has indeed been incremental. The AWU2 I ordered today will be my fifth:

S0 - I got this one because, duh.
S3 - First with LTE
S4 - Bigger case
S7 - Even Bigger Case
AWU2 - faster SiP

Well, maybe I get something wrong here but I have been running the WatchOS 10 Beta on my Gen.1 Ultra for some weeks now and it switched automatically to night mode in low-light situations. Unfortunately I have not found a way to turn this off because I liked the way it was implemented, so I could switch between modes by just turning the crown. Or am I missing something and you refer to something different?

You were quoting me so I'll respond although I'm not sure you intended exactly for me to respond?

So I am NOT running WatchOS 10 Beta on my Ultra. I'm only running the latest public release version. It was someone else who is running WatchOS 10 Beta who said that the automatic change to night mode is not available on the Ultra first generation as they are not experiencing it on theirs. However, you are saying you ARE experiencing it on your Ultra?

And you're correct that in the public release version, the way to change to Night mode is by turning the crown. There's not auto change to Night mode, otherwise.

A Watch is almost double the brightness of a 7000 dollar display. A watch.
Because a watch has a reason to have such brightness. Professional displays do not. They are generally in moderately-to-completely controlled environments.

Siri was already on the watch
Not on-device with AI/machine learning. It's actually ON device instead of having to go to the internet for everything.

Hey, thank you for your response! I just wanted to add my experience to your conversation. And yes, I own a AWU Gen1 and with the Beta of WatchOS 10 (installed the beta a few weeks ago) the functionality of auto-switching to night mode was added to my model.

However, I just learned that it is possible to switch to night mode manually but the option to do the switching by turning the crown (which I liked a lot) is gone, unfortunately.

Omg….are they only going to put that new watch face on the new Utra 2 vs the first Ultra?

Such baloney!
Well I stand corrected. It does look like the new modular watch face is supported on last year’s Ultra. I’m seeing it in my new Watch App on iOS 17 RC. Updating the Watch Ultra now. Stay tuned.

That’s too bad that manual option is gone. Maybe it’ll come back in the general release version.

I’m excited for next Monday! So many OS updates. Looking forward to experiencing all of them!!

Faster chip and gestures seems to be the only update here. Looks like a mid cycle refresh. Satellite SOS would’ve made perfect sense but not even that. Seems like next year’s will be the big update.

Still ordered one because I’m on Series 6 and want a second watch for sports.

I would buy an ultra in a heartbeat if it came in a smaller case size. I have small wrists and wear a 41mm series 8. I’ve tried on a 45mm and it looks pretty goofy on me, so as it stands the ultra is out of the picture. I think I’ll be waiting indefinitely at this point but it is what it is.

Sorry looks my update above is wrong? The new modular ultra face is in my watch gallery that I added and then configured (and it’s in the new faces too) BUT it isn’t showing up on my last year’s Ultra watch. I have both the iOS 17 and watchOS 10 RC’s installed.

It’s either a bug that it’s not working on the older ultra watch or a bug that I can add it to my older Ultra watch’s watch faces from the Watch App.

Anyone know anything more on this? Thx!

disappointed that they didn't have the black watch option, really thought they would especially after they showcased it in the video section on night mode... (anybody else notice this)

maybe there were production / supply issues and they'll announce it later (October event?). I thought about waiting but my current watch broke so i needed to replace it.
