The screen isn’t bigger it’s got bigger bezels and huge casing that’s why it’s bigger

I highly doubt the screen isn't bigger than the 45mm S7 (1143 square mm). I don't think the tech specs are published yet for the Ultra. When they are, we'll know for sure, though.

Would be a dick move, already got a dive computer though, but a backup is always nice.
It's got interesting potential for diving but £800 is expensive for a dive computer these days, plus it looks small and fiddly (gloves and one small button - gas switching in cold water?) and would probably get trashed quite quickly without a plastic screen protector etc. Can see it appealing to a certain holiday diving set though.

I a surprised at the price. I would have thought it was much more. I thought the titanium cases on previous versions was a costly upgrade.

Did they pull any features out of this watch to save money????

True but if I'm only getting one Apple Watch, I really wouldn't want to wear this one all day. If this has to be a secondary watch, it makes the purchase harder to justify for many people.
Apple knows their market. Clearly, Apple wants to sell a premium Apple watch at the $500+ price point. They've had that from the beginning with the original Edition watches as a fashion piece. They hardly sold in worthwhile quantities when they were real gold, or ceramic or whatever.

Most people interested in the AW as a fashion piece can easily achieve it with watchbands or even the Hermes edition.

At the higher price point, it looks like Apple is going in another direction/market. Endurance/Extreme sports enthusiasts are some of the most die-hard folks and consumers. Someone who is really into Triathlons and UltraMarathons will think nothing of dropping $800 on a new watch with the features that cater to them. I'm not sure how big this market is, but I have to imagine that it's bigger than the market than the $10,000 gold S0, or the $1,200 ceramic S5.

Now that I think about it, I'm left wondering why Apple hadn't tapped into this market years ago.

This is the Hummer model for the urban crowd. Never leaves the pavement.

Parking lot at work is full of jacked up Jeep "Mall Crawlers" with giant noisy tires that would drive me bonkers in less than 20 min and front mounted wenches that will rot in front of Penny's.

You cannot use it in lava.

I'm sitting in lava right now. RIGHT NOW. I am literally sitting in lava.

Prove I'm not.

Looks wise of course it's not as nice as as regular, since it's specific purpose requires it to be more bulky for bigger battery and easy button presses so fine with that. Not a fan of the orange accent, like still not with the red cellular accent, but is what it is. For those of us with series 7 in titanium, already use to the expensive price so nothing unexpected there. The better battery life, and additional button, and bigger toggles for us active folks, is exactly what I had hoped for.

The big issue I see is that it only comes in 49mm. Apple is known for offering smaller sizes since half the world are woman who most often have smaller wrists as well as all us guys with smaller wrists. So for those demographics, we don't choose small watches over large for aesthetic choice like the average man can, but rather because the larger sizes literally would hang over the size. So where the previous large would start to overhang on most in that demographic, the 49mm would be presumably drastically so. This would seem to be the biggest physical issue since one can save up, or deal with aesthetics, but can't change their wrist size.

All I can assume or hope is that it's the same height but that it's just the width that is much larger but don't see the exact sizing yes or most importantly a comparison between the two.

Yes, most intrepid explorers and adventurers are totally fine with having to look for an electrical outlet 36 hours into their adventure, to charge up their phone.

What utter nonsense.

Who would dive more than 36 hours. Use your thinking caps guys, you go skiing all day then get in your car and drive home.

Campers have solar USB chargers and other equipment.

love that watch, its going to sell out in mins.
I see so far the products are available to order today, so makes it a rush to get them in basket quick before miss launch day delivery.

Nice watch... is the 36 hours while in exercise mode? I'll bet these batteries last a lot longer once the chips move to 3nm...

Looks awesome. I have always wanted a large chunky Apple watch and only want sapphire, but that price is a little hard to swallow. My last Apple watch suffered with a swollen battery within 3 years and pushed the screen off. Not worth fixing due to repair cost, so these watches don't have a long life making them poor investments vs standard watches.

I do miss the features and had I known I'd have to replace the battery before it destroyed itself, I would have, having had several iphone battery replacements to keep my 7 Plus alive to this day. I guess my thinking has changed. I have no issue charging every night and servicing when needed, but if an expensive watch cannot last for many, many years without breaking, it's not worth it to me anymore.

If I hadn't had a bad experience I guess I'd be ordering.....😞
