By its peak time, among the 7 billion people on earth, there will be only at most 150 million using iOS 7, while at the same time 800 million using Android and 1.5 billion using Windows. So, in fact, at least 97% of the world population just don't care about it.

Where are you getting these figures?:confused:

Very cute... it's like a little funfetti explosion for your iPhone. Can't wait until I can download it in the fall. At least I'll have plenty of time to play with my dollies and have little tea parties before then.

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Seriously? Jony Ive, you need to go find your man parts, reattach them, and try again.

maybe you could get a case with some rad skulls and flames on it

If you're a man, how are you supposed to flirt with a woman with this phone?

Everything's going well, you get a call, and when you pull out your phone you suddenly look like a 7yo girl wearing a Hello Kitty dress.

Is this supposed to be a subtle, mind control style form of population control?

More like I pull my iPhone with iOS 7 out..

"Hey is that the new Windows 8 phone? The UI is nice."

"No, its iOS 7....."

And what do you care what percentage of phones are on what OS? That affects you how? I'd be willing to be [sic] that 2 hours ago, before Apple slid that thought into your mind, you didn't have a care in the world about what percentage of devices were on what OS. It wasn't even a passing thought. But now you sound like an Apple clone, spewing the garbage they like to fill your head with.

We shouldn't make assumptions about people. If you had made that bet you'd have lost it (here's a post of mine from 1 month ago where I commented on Android versions: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=17266289#post17266289). I've been tracking what OS version Android users are running for years though. I've owned nothing but Android phones since I got my first smartphone in 2010 and have been critical of the fragmentation for years. Fragmentation helps Google gain market share but at the expense of users who do not have the newest phone models (and even then that's no guarantee of updates). Fragmentation is an important problem (why I was tracking it) because it means if users want the features and security of newer iterations of Android they have to root their devices and install custom ROMs unless they run one of the official Google devices or happen to have one of the few Android-based phones that actually are updated (most are not). I have no problem doing that (I've done it with my previous phones) but it's a hassle and not everything works as well as it should. Even though the process is easy, most people do not have the skills to apply these custom ROMs. Another reason why fragmentation is important to consider is that it means that yes, Jelly Bean has lots of fancy features, but most people running Android-based phones do not have those features. They are stuck in the past. Apple EOLs devices but at least most iPhones can run the newest versions of iOS. Even the iPhone 4 will run iOS 7.

For more info, here's one of the most up-to-date sources of which version of Android users have: http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/android-jelly-bean-marketshare-overtakes-ice-cream-sandwich-gingerbread-still-going-strong-361920

iOS 7 certainly leapfrogs over JB - it'd be a poor refresh if it didn't (it also means that iOS 6 was behind JB in many features, which it is).

Speaking of Apple (Mac) clones - I owned one of those back in the day. A nice but flawed Motorola system. ;)

I don't deny that I am an Apple fan - I've been using Apple computers my entire life (30+ years) and use them almost exclusively for my research. This doesn't keep me from using my Windows machines (mainly for gaming at this point) or my Linux boxes (usually running Neurodebian for some research tools I use). This doesn't keep me from using Android phones - I've never owned an iPhone. What this means is I don't go around mindlessly spouting PR (most of the time).

* False
* False
* False
* False - animated weather? really?
* False - off screen gestures have been part of iOS jailbreak tweaks since 1.4.

Looks like it might not work with a case? what kind of troll garbage is that? you have no idea, whatsoever.

I know, these Android fans are just hating because they will never get cool features like scrolling wallpaper.

Does anyone have any idea if the Activation Lock feature, prevents the device from being wiped or turning off Find My iPhone before you get to a computer to mark it as stolen on iCloud's Find My iPhone? I ask because I've had an iPod touch stolen and by the time I got access to a computer, it had already been wiped I assume because it never responded. Would this feature prevent any wipes/decativations of Find My iPhone in general (so you don't have to mark it stolen on iCloud before the thief turns it off)?

Activation Lock
Activation Lock is designed to be a theft deterrent. It adds a new feature that requires an Apple ID and password to access and turn off Find My iPhone or to wipe a device. That means if a device is stolen and a thief tries to wipe it, the phone will not be able to be reactivated without its accompanying iCloud login. Even after a device is erased, Find my iPhone will continue to display a custom message.

That last part kind of sounds like it would still be deactivated even if it is wiped but it isn't clear if that only happens if you managed to mark it stolen in iCloud before the thief wipes it.

It is absolutely nauseating to see so many people troll this topic. They cannot let us, Apple fans, enjoy a new software/hardware release without their need to stomp all over it. I have never gone to an Android site to say anything bad about a device I don't own or wish to own.

Has the whole Internet devolved to the lowest level of conversation? Where is common civility? Why is it always mine is better than yours, just like in Kindergarten?

Nobody asks you to comment if you do not own an Apple device or never intend to buy one. Your negative comments reinforce my affinity to Apple. Go troll somewhere else where the sun doesn't shine.

I was just about to reply to a suspected troll, but I guess I'll just ignore them, especially since they didn't make a good argument.

I love it! Exactly what iOS needs right now.

I remember downloading the Yahoo! weather app a couple months ago and thinking that it would be great if Apple's rumored iOS redesign looked like that. Who knew? (Well, apparently someone at Yahoo but the rest of us... :) ).

You couldnt be more wrong! What innovation was there? They copied the font and settings screens from Win 8 phone. They copied the overall appearance of the OS from Android Jelly Bean. Their new "innovations" are taken straight from Auxo, SBSettings, and infinitfolders. Yea, lots of "innovation". Let Cydia developers do all the work for them. And those "flat" icons are hideous. completely underwelming.

Still no download from Safari feature. Still no quick reply feature of messages. Still stuck with one keyboard, no swype or ability for third party keyboards.

iOS7 = Windows Phone + Android = Awesome! Therefore, Derek I don't know why you are having a "big deal no innovations" attitude - these new features are still massively important features that were only once available via jailbreak but now anyone with modern hardware can have it and its completely legal and Apple supported! This is not a bad thing!

The new flat icons were something that I didn't take to initially but they are slowly growing on me and they will for 90% of people I am sure. The camera could have used some more features for power users and maybe even provide some green-screening for videos like what we had on iChat (or at least nab a few android features such as dual camera mode but actually make it slick and polished), but I'm loving the built-in filters feature - this will get used a LOT by iPhone users, unlike some of the gimmicks introduced on Android.

For me, the biggest wow was the new Mac Pro. I am going to start saving up for one because it is going to cost an arm and a leg (and maybe even a kidney).

Outstanding features.

Shockingly, mind-blowingly ugly design.

I'm simply stunned that this is Jony Ive's work. It's... Hideous. But I will still upgrade because the functionality enhancements are tremendous.

Your comment gave me a flashback to all the threads discussing the "lost" iphone 4.

Android's implementation is hardly fool-proof. The number of times something has misbehaved on my neighbor's Jellybean Galaxy Nexus and his battery has died because of failed multitasking is innumerable.

Remember when FaceTime was announced and people cried out that their phone has had a web-cam and can do X and Y for years? Really? And how many of you bother to even use it because the interface and implementation are just horrible?

That's what's going on here. Sure, other devices have had "similar" functionality, but you can bet your bum it will be done better in iOS, and it will simply "work." Just like FaceTime, which brought me and my family together where no other implementation could.

Agreed, just because someone does something first... doesn't mean they have it down pat. Competition is good for everyone. I'm tired of the they thought of it first critics.

love the icons and colors

Just love the whole thing!

Look around you, everyone who's bashing the artwork.
This is the most modern "2013 and beyond" look you could want.

(sry for my english if its bad)

It look too much cartoonish, it lost most the elegance the last gen has:(

I'll need to see it in person. OS X lost some of Aqua's translucency over the years while becoming more elegant. On the other hand, Windows 7 Aero looks a lot more elegant than Windows 8 Metro.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Control Center.
Been hoping for an easy way to do this for a while.

Wonder what all the white will look on the black phone...most mockups show the phone as White.

Nice to see Snapseed as a native app...wait, that's just the new Photos icon.

And overall looks a bit like the screens I've seen on Samsung phones (Ads)

I sincerely think you need to take a breather. If someone has an opinion that differs from yours or heaven forbid - isn't praising Apple and the new iOS - that doesn't make them a troll. Ironic you bring up common civility - and then state that nobody asks you to comment...

This forum isn't just for iPhone or Apple owners. Sorry if you were mistaken it was. This website is open to everyone and I personally like the varied opinions because it keeps things honest and real. And you really like Apple MORE because others might comment negatively? OOOOk.

"Go troll somewhere else where the sun doesn't shine." Let me refer you back to your own comment. "Has the whole Internet devolved to the lowest level of conversation? Where is common civility?"

Irony indeed.

What makes you think it's arbitrary?

In fact, it's not. AirDrop requires certain hardware features that the older devices do not support.

Again please name them and don't jump on the direct bandwagon. The 4s can hotspot but can't transfer files while acting as an AP, hummm.

Unimpressive. I had confidence in whatever Johnny would come up with, but so far my faith looks misplaced. Maybe it will somehow redeem itself in person.

  • They copied the font, general look from Android ICS or earlier even.
  • They copied the overlay look from Windows Vista.
  • Copied Safari tab summary view form Windows Vista Aero windows view
  • Animated weather copied from HTC sense for Android.
  • Non-discoverable gestures from the edge copied from Microsoft Windows 8. Looks like it may not work if you have a case wrapping the edge.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
