There is no such thing as a modern smartphone.
Amazing, for ages people on here have been screaming for the features, look, and feel of what Apple have shown us today yet people are still complaining, people are saying Apple have copied Android. I'm sorry but it seems like those people can't be pleased, and sorry for telling you this but Apple invented the modern smart phone so there is noway anyone can comeback and say Apple are copying.

If you want to complain that Apple are missing out on things and then complain when Apple does something about then go ahead, just don't ever expect to be satisfied.

Helvetica + Gradients

People are claiming iOS has "gone Android" for 2 reasons: the use of 1) Helvetica fonts and 2) linear gradients.

But it's not like these design elements are Google's exclusively - they're being adopted EVERYWHERE - Google, Microsoft and now Apple. Mobile apps have been heading in this direction, and websites galore have been ditching their old looks for a new, flatter design aesthetic. Flat design is THE trend right now, and everything is starting to reflect that. So I wouldn't say iOS 7 is "going Android" so much as it's aligning with what designers are doing right now; it can't be attributed to a single company or person.

As for whether Apple is stealing from Android in terms of app features, that's another question. But what do people expect? The mobile device, in its current state, is reaching the end of its form factor. Until the next big thing comes out, all we're going to see is refinement - a tug of war over who can make the wheel prettier and easier to use, without reinventing it entirely.

With a few exceptions, Apple's focus hasn't been the pioneering of new technology. They've always been about the MARKETING, about converging art and technology.

All in all, I'm impressed. Apple did what it needed to do today in order to shift some of the momentum away from Google and Android.

Would I liked to have seen some features and details done differently? Of course. If anything, this all should have happened with iOS 6. But overall, today was a big, big win for them.

iOS 7 looks like a great thing but it is not for the majority of iPhone users if it doesn't work ion iPhone 4 or 4s.

That just sucks. I mean apple is still selling the iPhone 4 today! And yet very soon it won't run the current iOS ?

A brand new Apple phone you buy today can't run the iOS by September ? Really ?

It has to be a mistake. Apple would never make a brand new product become obsolete in 90 days. No way !

Like what I see in iOS7 so far.
I don't like how they don't observe simple readability best practices like not putting white text on a light blue background like in the new weather app.

It would be great if you could select the system font you prefer without jail breaking and theming. :)

Apple had a great day today.

Ohh hmm okk then thank you :) seriosuly didn't know that... don't wanna upgrade tho :( I mean, haha I wish, but ya knoo^^

NP. Kind of don't know why others were just insulting you rather than being helpful! I wish I could upgrade too. Just need to find some idiot that will buy my ipad 3 for enough money to make an ipad 5th gen viable :)

What was wrong with the red stripe in the Calender icon? Will the Calendar icon is OSX also be changed in the future? This is too much reduction. Icons need to tell you what the app is about. If all we get as a hint is a white rectangle with an always changing number on it, we've gone all windows live tiles.
Oh, noooo!
Yes, a white square with the date on it?!?
How I am supposed to ever guess that was for the calendar app?

I Absolutely love iOS 7. The only thing I didn't like was the dock, it might look better with out the blur for a dock. I would like to see it in person but the Dev site is impossible to get on to right now.

They are trolls, some of them paid. They are not real Apple fans.

If you judged Apple's popularity by the sheer number of negative internet posts about them and their products, you'd think they were the least popular of all smartphone and computer manufacturers. The truth is something close to the opposite.

A lot of forum-posting geeks are unemployed or underemployed. They sit in their parents' basement and tinker with electronics they bought on the cheap. They like upgrading and they like customization. They hate stuff aimed at the mainstream; "ease of use" is considered a bad thing. They also likely can't quite afford the top-end stuff like Mac Pros and retina MBPs, so they vent their rage in internet forums. It's a sad phenomenon.

You seem to be misinformed. The iPhone 4, 4S, and 5 will all get iOS 7.

Haha...all the Android fanboys are out in full damage control mode.

Meanwhile, information on the Apple keynote is the main article on CNN. Nobody gives a damn when Google or Samsung have something new to announce. :D

On another note

Can Apple please hire some people who care about gaming. Almost by accident Apple's portable devices are killing PSP Vita, hurting Nitendo, etc. And Apple still cannot figure it out. The icon for Gamecenter is...what? What is that? How does it say games? It says dropped paint brush. Maybe it was lost icon for a paint app? But Apple really needs a revamp of their gamecenter with better integration, some method of blocking cheaters. They are winning a battle it seems they don't even know they are fighting. Laugh about digital felt all you want (and it was ugly) but the game center designed by people who have never played games and had to design it for extra credit in their college photoshop class looks ridiculous. "Bam! Crash! Pow! Etc" is the quote about game center on their about iOS page.

Another gaming issue - I delete an app and lose my save games. Someone, anyone, who has played games on their phone at Apple (seriously is there anyone) should know this sucks. It is unacceptable that to make space for my shiny new 2 Gb game I need to lose the save games for several other games. It is unacceptable, yet it continues to persist. It makes me sad and I have to use a bunch of third party software to extract my save games so that I can get back to it later. How about...fixing that.

Microsoft knows gaming, and I think they should take it seriously on their phone and give Apple some heat for their lackluster participation in a key feature of their product. But no, its an ironic joke for them. And ugly and non-gamey (if that is a word).

It really is. I imagine them in their basements, drinking their mountain dew, typing on their alienware laptop, etc.

It's funny that hardcore android fans find the time to watch 2-hour APPLE PRODUCT PRESENTATIONS, then log into MacRumors to troll in real-time.

I would never find myself watching or caring about anything that Google/Samsung does, let alone watching any presentations they do, or logging into any android forums to complain about their products.

Dear android shills:

YES, YES. LET THE BUTTHURT FLOW THROUGH YOU.

:apple:

it's funny how iOS 7 with its interface and fond really looks like Yahoo's new interface

have a look at Yahoo Weather

I don't think Apple would get so much flak or comments of copying if they didn't go around acting as if they are in a bubble.

If they want to pull things from webos, android, jailbreak community, etc and implement them into regular release with their spin on it for general public, by all means go for it.

Everyone builds off other people in all fields. Just don't go around making as if they thought of it and its the greatest thing ever.

Personally i don't know what to make of IOS7 yet, will need hands on time. control center is a nice addition, finally.

I don't stare at all phone all day to be bothered by the white. same deal with the icons. gamecenter looks funny as its a stark departure of right now but the others get a new coat a paint but still familiar.

Some of the color shades seem odd though, like in messages. The blue text bubble gets deeper shade as moves along. Anyone know if there's a reason for it? http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7/design/ (at the bottom, 2nd dot.)

You are so right, that would be the same as someone patenting a square device with rounded corners, just silly.

Seriously. It has been a great effort by them. They have come out in DROVES today.

I love this new design, I was getting tired of the same design of IOS for years.

This will be a success.

It was time for a new design and only a genius like johny ive could design something like this
