Besides, when you have to guess what an icon might be for, your icon design is already flawed. There must be no doubt ever in anyones mind. Icons need to be crystal clear, not in appearance but in meaning.

Really? How would you know what the current safari icon is for until you used it?

first i'm not an apple fan boy, but thanks for the insult.

Second, it doesn't matter who holds what in higher esteem, and your question is as ridiculous as your original statement. by acting as if only apple fan boys do one thing or the other, you show your bias. in other words, you're no better than the people who you claim you've figured out so well.

People complaining about the safari icon. What a bunch of fussy babies. It is a freaking icon to open an app.

i dont like the stupid background of control center and i think that the weather app was copied from yahoo, other than that everything's awesome. i had been waiting a long time for these features.

Before ios 7:

"ios is dated - we want a new interface"
"Android is better"
"We hate skeuomorphism"
"Forstall has let ios go stale. Android rules"

After ios 7:

"It's too much like Android"
"It's ugly"
"We preferred Forstall's version"
"It's not Apple"

You can't ********** win with you lot!

I'm loving:

  1. The consistency of look and feel across the OS. Previous versions were too disjointed, IMO.
  2. New features and enhancements to apps (multitasking, photos, command ctr, etc...)
  3. Overall appearance and the 'layered' structure

Not so hot on:

  • That Safari Icon... Really needs work, IMO. The other system icons are fine by me.

I think we're all going to love iOS 7 when we use it. I believe we'll come to love the new look-and-feel quickly, and soon look back on the glossy icons, skumorphism and older iOS appearance as really 'old-school'. It'll soon seem to us like 80s clothing styles and album art. New design is always a little unsettling if its bold and forward-moving. Then we all embrace it and can't believe we used to embrace the styles we were once so reluctant to let go of.

So, is this true multitasking, or simply a multitasking screen (like the one that stock Android has had for a year now)?

Also, do the new API finally include the ability to replace iOS's primitive keyboard?

I do like the new icons for the most part (although they'll all probably appear in Android themes way before the final iOS7 is released). Now if we could just be given the option of having themes on our iPhones, it be even better....

Seriously, though, there is nothing innovative here, just nicely designed Android OS rip offs (but not as robust).

Mavericks looks much more interesting, though.

Good summary. I think people get a little to worked up about the icons, it is not really that important anyway. I think the good far outweighs the issues some people have expressed over the icons.

Icons for default apps look ugly as hell. The rest, GORGEOUS! Every bit of it looks amazing! I'm glad Apple managed to keep it under wraps to maintain secrecy and excitement. I'm pleasantly surprised! Too bad I'm not a developer to try it out today itself.

Yup, even looking at my iPhone 4s right now, just really feels dated (after watching today's events).

:)

Honestly, I was not disappointed. I think that apple took the steps that they needed to, and executed well. I wish that Ive would have taken the stage, and I would have liked an Apple TV update, but who knows, maybe he just sucks at public presentations, and perhaps they didn't have the time for the Apple TV. It looks like they've listened to a lot of what we wanted, and the new UI looks great.

Today is basically proof that people on the internet will complain about anything.

It's also the reason why most tech blogs and commenters have basically become useless and the equivalent of political talk radio, trading in useful information for barbs and "he said/she said".

during the keynote unveiling of iOS 7, was there not a clip showing the screen with icons and the phone moving, giving the icons almost a 3d look over the background picture as the phone moved?

I haven't heard it mentioned yet in these breakdowns but I swear I saw that in the keynote.

I'm not sure I like the icons at all. I think they borrowed from the jailbreak community more than stock android. Stock Android copied ideas from the iPhone Jailbreak themes as well.

I think it is mostly borrowing from Jailbreak tweaks and other concepts and a little from Outlook.com. I am happy that at least, they kept it mostly light coloured.

Not a huge fan of the look but at least they used some transparency.

I hope they will at least revisit the icons before launch and makes some changes to the widgets. I don't like the back button.

I'd prefer that they at least had a bit of embossing on the buttons for usability.

I love the Control Center, and since Yahoo is giving Apple the info for the weather app, it makes sense it would share similarities to Yahoo's own app.

He explained the multitasking in some detail during the presentation, you might want to watch it. A keyboard API was not mentioned on the SDK slide.

It is silly to claim the changes are Android rip-offs and pretty telling to call them "not as robust".

The impression I get from Ive is he is constantly changing his design tastes. Artists like Dylan go through different phases. The first Macs Ive worked on 10 years ago look vastly different than the industrial iPhones that came much later.

From an iOS standpoint, iOS 7 represents a major step from the Forstall days, but I think it's safe to assume that iOS 8, 9, etc, will also provide major departures from the previous OS.

I'm excited for this new era :D
