WOW! Whilst this has tones of Android and WebOS, I don't care as it looks utterly fantastic! Man Apple's stock has just shot up in my book today! Well done! Will give me iPhone 5 a whole new lease although me thinks I should have got the white one haha!

All in all, I agree. Is similar to Android/Windows but whatever, it looks good. The current look is awful and this is moving in correct direction.

Regarding white phone. I agree it looks great on white iPhone.. BUT... unfortunately my eye is drawn to the black border around the screen. Ive should have designed the bezel in the iPhone5 to hide this nasty border. :(

Not really, just pointing out how:

1. Android fans find the need to watch a 2 hour Apple presentation, log into MacRumors and make disparaging remarks.

2. Apple fans don't even bother watching Google/Samsung presentations, because they don't know they exist, let alone logging into Android websites to troll.

*In short:

1. Android fans care about Apple, and they care about Android.

2. Apple fans care about Apple, but not Android.

You see what you want to see. Reality or not. I seem to remember long threads on this forum about the Google announcements/keynotes with tons of positive and bashing comments. On here. Apple fans - right?

I still don't understand (I do I just find it ridiculous) that you think anyone that is posting negatively about they keynote must be an Android "fan" or hate Apple. Is your world really that Black and White?

In short I think this post I quoted is 100% wrong.

Design looks beautiful, agree that a few of those icons are a little jarring, maybe it was a case of "you stare at something for so long that you can no longer see it" at apple HQ. would have been a good time to move on from that compass safari icon. Everything else, very keen.

Love it. Love the new font, just having quicker access to the more used settings will be great. Is it Autumn/fall yet!

Innovative - my a**!

When Schiller declares "appstore" being absolutely unique etc, he is not honest.

I had numerous of palm handheld computers (late 1980s). Also the first colour palm with internet capabilities - Way before the iPhone.

Palm had a "store" where they, surprise surprise...sold applications! There was paid and free apps, maybe as many as more then 100 000 which was very much in those days.

I also bought a handheld computer with touchscreen from Nokia. It had a nice colour screen and it was equipped with wifi to surf the internet. This was before the iPhone. But it had a stylus and no phone capabilities. Nokia later admitted that they had done research on making a touchscreen phone - But didn't think demand would be enough to make it profitable. BIG MISTAKE!

I can go on with more examples - Apple are not an innovating company. They take good ideas from other companies (that have/had poor implementation) and make better versions.

Nothing wrong with that, but innovating? Not so much!

At first I think you are dumb. Then I look up Android screen images and WOW. You are correct, the similarities are striking.

amazing.

:(

You know, the first time I saw the new lock screen, I had to do a double take because it did strike me quite a bit as looking like the Galaxy S4.

I'm still tired as hell and completely whiny because of it, but to me, iOS7 does look like it takes a few cues from Google and a lot from MS. It's very Metro, but without as much emphasis on tiles.

Exactly what I was thinking. Then again, Apple's best "innovations" are taken from the jailbreak community.

You forgot Samsung. I'd say it'd be pretty naive to ever see the Samesung or Samsung copied Apple on this site again.

Apple just pulled a complete rip off of the entire mobile industry and had the audacity to slam their competitors on stage while doing it.

They are getting ripped in the tech blogs and every major news site.

I'd say a shift in attitude will be needed for the Apple users that do nothing but slam everything non Apple because iOS is non Apple.

Horrible. The white hurts my eyes and the icons look really really bad. Also very inconsistent use of arrows shadows and gradients. It looks like Apple are having an identity crisis. Ives is not a graphic designer, he knows jack about graphic design. Terrible skinny typeface / very bad and inconsistent use of type / horrible blurry backgrounds / with those campy 50's dots. This is a really weak redesign. Not worthy of Apple. Jobs must be looking down in total disgust. This is not the Apple I once loved. And did I mention the icons... euch. This is seriously the first time I think that I saw an Apple presentation and thought 'WHAT ARE THEY DOING!!! WRONG WRONG WRONG... 15 Apple devices I have bought in the last 13 years, always loved them, but this is really bad. Not to mention the Airport tower, what the .... haha that is a real joke. Jeez and the Mac Pro.... looks soooo cheap. I am not trolling. I have been a true mac user. So disappointed :mad::eek::(

I agree, Steve is turning in his grave given the hideousness of iOS 7. And soon they will totally screw up the MacOS as well. If Steve had one major weakness it was his inability to build up a successor with the same sensitivities towards the arts as he had. Now the bozos are running the show and the Apple we loved will soon be a thing of the past...:mad::mad:

Not an entirely satisfactory iOS update, but could be worse

On the scale of 0 to 10 I'd rate this update… 5 or so.

Here's why:

- No Swype / SwiftKey Flow -like input interface.
Ideally, I'd like a number of optional keyboards, incl. Swype / SwiftKey Flow & Fleksy, implemented on a system level. The user would be able to switch between these, if enabled, on the fly (from the drop-down menu / Notification Centre, for instance). The lack of a superior keyboard is my gripe # 1. I find hard to believe that Apple is [still] perfectly content with their 6-year old, alpha-stage keyboard tech! And no - flat, non-tactile surfaces aren't intended for stab-typing - capacitative touchscreens are most suitable for "swipetyping" is.

- This may be a hardware-centric issue, but why no 3G on/off toggle in the Notification Centre? After a few minutes of internet activity (other than mail, I suppose), most particularly, watching a YouTube video, the 3G signal will override WiFi connection, regardless of the proximity of the WiFi access point. One, obviously, shouldn't have to switch 3G off when near a WiFi to avoid this issue, but as things stand, one is compelled to do so (or to start the Mail.app to re-establish the WiFi connection). At any rate, I hope, this issue is resolved in iOS7: if so, a 3G toggle in the Notification Centre won't be necessary.

- I do like the font (Helvetica Neue Ultra Light). I like some of the GUI modifications in iOS7, as well. Some, but not all: certain visual elements appear to me like raw blueprints. Also, some icons (particularly, the black ones, such as that of the Compass and Stocks apps) are somewhat ugly. Lack of texture in the GUI doesn't strike as particularly polished, either. Mr. Ive may be one of the finest industrial designers in the world, but software visuals apparently aren't entirely his strong suit (at least, not in the same extent as hardware).

- Siri needs more languages: Dutch, Armenian, Russian… And - again - one should be able to switch between languages on the fly. Obviously, the Siri "enhancements" announced are no enhancements at all, much like with the current OS when introduced last year (who cares for redneck sports scores for goodness' sake!).

The extra security properties in iOS 7, the extended synergy between the iOS, iCloud & OS X, as well as a slew of trivial features I sure do appreciate.

As for OS X, I've much less to complain about the OS X Mavericks features. As much as I like the ridiculously expensive (but otherwise quite excellent) 1Password, the DefaultFolder X, the occasionally crashing (but so far free of charge, and very nice) XtraFinder (or TotalFinder / PathFinder / ForkLift), I am glad all of the features announced today will be natively incorporated into OS X. High time! The Maps app, improved Safari, enhanced Notifications & Calendar, iCloud KeyChain & performance-boosting features.

Now, who has the patience to wait till mid-Autumn?

I don't mind them taking ideas from Android and WebOS as let's be honest, their is only so much innovation you can do with a 4" screen on a powerful smart phone! But I'm just glad I'll get a part of Apple's new design language for free come end of this year.

It will be glaring when viewing in the middle of the night.... even with brightness turned down.

And I think that's the problem with Apple fans. They live in a bubble where nothing Apple does is wrong, and they have the tendency to spout out misconceptions they've heard from other people about Android/WP without actually bothering to use the devices or do any research. I use WP8 and I come here mostly to dispel falsifications of the OS that I see all the time, because its startling how wrong a lot of people are about certain features. I am personally just a lover of technology and an engineer, so I like to go to other forums to discuss the direction of the mobile world. Sure there's going to be plenty of trolls on any forum, but some people genuinely just want to debate. And if I were an Apple fan I would worry about Android and WP8, because it seems that they're the ones providing inspiration to Apple now, not the other way around.

Palm Pilot

Apple should consider going to grayscale, like a lovely 1999 Palm Pilot.

iOS 7's UX is terrible.

Just recall that the current version of Apple TV was not approved by Jobs, who turned it down. It has what people commonly refer to a "Metro" design, and that's what Windows 8 is all about. Great for 1988, but its 2013 and retro is not cool in terms of UX.

The design is really all over the place. So inconsistent. Steve Jobs had the masters whip and he controlled the show. This shows that Apple is in demise. It is Rome waiting to happen. The biggest shock is the hardware... even that shows that Ive's is nowhere without the master. The current mac pro is a work of Art compared to the big black butt plug, or trash can. :(

At first i was sceptical but the more I see the more I like OS7. Its cool and has a lot of great features. Some are inspired by Windows and Android? Ok if you say so.

I think I am gonna like this when it comes out in fall.

Thank you! :)

Still trying to get used to the cyan/magenta/grey look of the home screen, almost reminds me of print preproduction...

And as funny as some of the skeumorphism jokes were, I found the Forstall-bashing slightly repetitive and harsh. Apple, your clients are currently using the UI that you introduced extremely enthusiastic a few years ago and now are trashing and they will be using it for another few months before you are offering them an alternative to switch to. And while his name wasn't mentioned (everyone knew where it was going), I think that borderline dissing of a former colleague shouldn't have any place at a public presentation (I chuckled a few times anyway).

I think it looks great. I was fine with the current design honestly, but this looks much more fun to use. I am glad there are new features as well. It is going to cause a lot of backlash though as it's more limited to devices than 6 was.

Well I must be the exception! I am an Apple fan since 2007! But lately Apple have done grave mistakes. I lalso (like you) like technology. And I have been reading many reviews on Samsung Galaxy (S3, S4 and Note I and II) I nearlyy bought one of those. I bought the Nokia N9 when it came out, but it was to buggy with the "Meego" OS. Otherwise that is the most beautiful phone (in my mind) that I have had.

Lately I have been contemplating to switch from iPhone 5 to Nokia Lumia 920 (or the upcoming 925).

So, Apple fan yes, but when I dont like what they are doing - I am looking elsewhere.

I have a Macbook Air 11 which I love, a mini iPad that is very useful for weekend trips, and an iPhone 5. I have had many other Apple products and most of the time they are superior (in my opinion).

But the iPhone 5 and coming models are probably going to fall behind both Nokia and Samsung.

Of course. Xerox park and all that jazz, but I was just explaining someone post about how it was ironic that someone called out apple for copying android features. Everything is some manifesting of ideas before or inspirations yada yada yada. The real question is how to do get the beta?!?!?

Exactly. There are actually Phandroids who think Google invented widgets.
