Wow, finally full multitasking?! SMH, this has been in Android for at least a year if not longer.

What "full multitasking"? All they did was make it so it shows the app in advance. It's not like you can put them side-by-side. And in case you didn't know, multitasking (that is, apps running simultaneously) has existed with 3rd-party apps since iOS 4.

So....new and fresh is copying the Windows 8 look?

Honestly, it's pretty hideous. The interface looks more like the early Mac OS in terms of its almost "wire interface" look. This is something that went out of style in the 1980s. I think Apple will be able to thank the designer Jonathan Ive for causing their stock to plummet even further. Throw in the the Trash Can they call the Mac Pro and you've got the:

"We can't think of anything truly innovative so we'll just make things look old and similar to a trash can so you know where to throw our products." :D

Looks like Johnny was busy researching Android, Windows 8 and cydia mods.
And the result is...

Apple now officially sucks even in copying

That's what I was afraid of. It already starts with the lock screen: it is still the same gesture (swiping from left to right) but the UI does not make it obvious like the previous version, because there is only text and no slider anymore. What I've seen on numerous screenshots is that iOS 7 does this on a much larger scale, e.g. the 'send' button in Messages is just text, same goes for the Contacts app (no 'edit' button). It is worse than I actually thought, very disappointing.

So we have this screen in which we can convey as much information as we want to in order to help it be intuitive and simple. What should we do? Just use text like a dos program from 1987. Usability just became a big victim to fashion.

Ok, the camera app looks like cheap junk from Android, and the icons look absolutely disgusting, but the new features are exciting.

Find a screen shot of notes or the mail app and look at the icons at the bottom. Ugly. And Mr Ives I have rods, cones, and a brain designed to respond to real and simulated stereoscopic images. Next time use those God given features to make iOS convey more, not less information.

It seems like all they've added in iOS7 is kind of a recent apps panel, the way it has been in Android for a while now (and the way it was done for JB iDevices). Except that Android does do true multitasking.

But they are skirting the question of TRUE MULTITASKING, which still doesn't seem to be available in iOS 7.

If someone has contrary information, please chime in. I'd be happy to be wrong on this one.

Also, what happened to the rumors of permitting 3rd party keyboards? Most people who have used the popular keyboard options available in Android seem to hate the iOS keyboard (which is basically the same as six years ago, except with some very limited and very poor prediction).

Love it

I was a little worried before the introduction, but personally now I can't wait to upgrade. First class all the way.

Well I must be the exception! I am an Apple fan since 2007! But lately Apple have done grave mistakes. I lalso (like you) like technology. And I have been reading many reviews on Samsung Galaxy (S3, S4 and Note I and II) I nearlyy bought one of those. I bought the Nokia N9 when it came out, but it was to buggy with the "Meego" OS. Otherwise that is the most beautiful phone (in my mind) that I have had.

Lately I have been contemplating to switch from iPhone 5 to Nokia Lumia 920 (or the upcoming 925).

So, Apple fan yes, but when I dont like what they are doing - I am looking elsewhere.

I have a Macbook Air 11 which I love, a mini iPad that is very useful for weekend trips, and an iPhone 5. I have had many other Apple products and most of the time they are superior (in my opinion).

But the iPhone 5 and coming models are probably going to fall behind both Nokia and Samsung.

It is nice to find reasonable people on forums. Why I spend so much time reading I don't know, just curious about other people's thought processes I guess. The problem is the people like you aren't the ones screaming at the top of the mountain; it's usually the blind followers who most people listen to.

Anyway, I own the 920 and it is a great phone (minus me cracking the screen from a corner drop, I just have no look with keeping phones intact), but you have to be willing to give up some things to use WP8. It is a great OS once you get used to it but most people play with it for 2 minutes and think it's crap for some reason because it's...different from iOS and Android. I honestly think it's the easiest OS to use, and definitely as fluid as iOS. Just curious to see what direction MS goes with the Windows Blue updates in the beginning of next year, there's just a few things missing that would put the OS right up there with the big boys. I mean there's a reason that Apple and Google have taken quite a bit of inspiration from WP8, it really is designed quite well.

I'm curious as to what all the other non Apple app icons will look like. For Example game apps like Need for Speed and Asphalt 7. Apps with complex picture like icons.

Also I guess this means the new iPhone will definitely debut by "the fall". LOL

Love the new functionality of the iOS 7, but settings, stocks, game center, photos, compass icons look soooooo ugly!!!!!

.
Android is amazing, but what it shines on innovation it lacks on reliability.

iOS 7 might not have all the bells and whistles that can be found on Android or Jailbroken devices, but it get most of the most important without compromising performance.

And for me, there is where the value lays.

My guess is you've never used a flagship Android phone and you are making assumptions about iOS 7 without compromises by one demo and not having ever used it means that you will likely forever be in the safe compounds of Apple's Walled Garden of denial.

Just thought I'd point out that kdarling nailed something in another thread before iOS was announced:

I read somewhere recently that Jon Ive liked 3D eye-tracking UIs.

Perhaps something like what the The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) did before they were bought up by RIM:

YouTube: video

That would both different and polarizing.

Good call, kdarling!

And Windows8/Metro. Apple used to innovate, not emulate.
When was this? Name an Apple innovation, and be prepared to be pounced on by people who will be happy to tell you where Apple copied it from.

Name an innovation on another platform, and they'll line up to either show you "prior art", or explain carefully that the feature is a gimmicky bit of fluff that no one will actually use.

Here's the important point: These people actually know what innovation is, unlike you (this is not my opinion, it's theirs--just ask them).

My thoughts on iOS7

I think the typography of iOS7 is really beautiful, as well as this space wallpaper they have shown in the video. Also the flatter look of calendar and all the other apps is great, personally I think flatness is something nice since it matches the design of the hardware in avoiding complex stuff and focusing on simple concepts.

However, the icons are just hideous, and i mean all of them. I am no graphic designer, but I am a painter, and consider myself to have a trong feeling for shapes and colours, and these icons do not match at all the feeling of the user interface. Honestly, the safari icon looks like windows 95 times.

I just cannot believe how this works. I mean honestly, think of this, Apple is a company with 100 billion dollars cash reserves, that means they can/could hire the best of the best graphic designers if they want to, play around with a lot of styles, iterate and come up with a great design in the end. But the idea that these icons are approved by a team of people that are all responsible for design, in such an influental company like Apple, just freaks me out. I am not a graphic designer, but I honestly think that I could create better icons than that. Because if they wanted to design flat icons then why include these gradients in the back and these neon color schemes. Somehow reminds me on snowboarders from the 80s.

I really admire the work of Johnny Ive regarding hardware, the unibody Macbook design is a masterpiece in my eyes, but when it comes to graphic design, no, they should use their 100 billion dollar cash reserves and hire someone only working for that, someone that has a good feeling for shapes and colors.

I am a bit sad now, because I don't know where Apple is going, from 2007 until 2011 or so they always had big innovations and I was always so excited. Now I think its just change because of change. Change is good but one has to be very careful with it.

:D:apple: has done it again for me that is. I am definitely getting the next iPhone releasing this fall. iOS7 is fresh enough for me. Hardware wise the iPhone already has what I need. Now I just have to decide whether or not I want to stay with AT&T or move my service to T-Mobile.
