There seems to be a large improvement in the battery life in the 13 Pro/Pro Max vs iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max. The weight gain for the 13 Pro is over 1 oz heavier vs the 13 Pro. The 13 Pro Max is smaller at just under .5 oz.

If this is anywhere close to accurate, Apple really undersold it today — impressive

Being someone who really enjoys taking videos, the cinematic mode and pro-res 4k/30fps is definitely what I was looking for. Might get the 1 TB too as I think I will be recording a lot of videos for the next couple of years. But honestly if video wasnt my only reason to upgrade, I would have not. Who honestly cares about the 120hz display on a 6.1: screen apart from overhyping techtubers.

If you really like shooting video get your self a camera. Don't waste $1,600 on a crappy mobile phone video when you can add $700 more and get nice HXR-NX80 handheld camcoder or add $1,200 for even better and more flexible PXW-Z90V

Mobile video looks good only on small screens and on aggressive YouTube compression. And it only looks good if shot outside during bright daylight.

The biggest improvements are in video playback. Does the small print mention new tests used 10 Hz battery saver mode on the new screen?
Fine print does not mention display refresh rate:

The ProMotion is always variable rate, so that helps the battery life considerable since it will automatically down-rate to 10 Hz. To me this is huge benefit for longer battery life.

Coming from a 6S I'm very excited.

- Qualcomm X60 modem (5G band aggregation)
- 120Hz VRR display
- Incredible A15 SoC
- Great battery life
- 4K60 in Dolby Vision
- 1200 nits peak HDR is very bright

Only strange omissions are no WiFi 6E and VoNR although the latter could well be a firmware upgrade in the future as the X60 modem supports it. Part of the presentation mentioned new video encoder/decoder yet there's no mention of AV1 support. C'mon Apple, this a a pretty important thing going forward.

I get that the extra weight is mostly due to a bigger battery, but the Pro models are starting to turn into bricks.

The measurements for the iPhone 13 vs iPhone 12 are identical. Not sure about the camera area size on the iPhone 13 vs iPhone 12.

EDIT: I was incorrect about the measurements of the iPhone 12 vs iPhone 13. The iPhone 13 is 7.65mm vs 7.40mm for the iPhone 12.

Compared to the Midnight Green and Pacific Blue, the Sierra Blue is extremely underwhelming. They took the frame color of the Pacific Blue - the worst part of it - and made the whole phone that color :(

So this year the only difference between the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max is the screen size and battery life.

but apple reduce battery from 11 to 12 only to increase it back.. I guess if you are gonna gloss over that then YAY it is a great improvement
Great point. I didn't even think of this. "How do we get more battery life in our hype machine?" "We reduce it every other year, and then to great applause, give it back the opposite years and market is as 25% more battery life than before."

why only the new mini says this:
  • All battery claims depend on network configuration and many other factors; actual results will vary. Battery has limited recharge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced by Apple service provider. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. See apple.com/batteries and apple.com/iphone/battery.html for more information.
that means??? anybody can explain me? I'm thinking buy the 13 mini.

I'm in. Have held onto my Xs for a few years now, but this is enough of a difference to make the leap. Better screen, 6x optical zoom, much faster processor, ability to achieve bokeh in video. And all the interim increases in photography since my model. It's time. Apple, I'm giving some of your dividends back to you for this nice piece of hardware, in Sierra Blue.

The feature I was looking forward to was video with bokeh, or the "Cinematic Video." But since it's only 1080P, I won't be using it. Grr couldn't Apple have enabled this for 4K??? Oh wait, that's the new innovative feature for the iPhone 14 *eye roll*
