What is the problem?

They are providing you an adapter free of charge. And they're moving into the fully digital world.

To me it sounds like a win-win.

Hmm. I have apple headphones that I got like 4 years ago...still fine.

Lighting cables, last a year, maybe...before the ends fray.

Not seeing the win win here.

There was a great deal on 6s plus last week and I'm thrilled I went for it. Huge upgrade from my iPhone 5.

Why on earth would they call it iPhone 7 when it's just a face-lifted iPhone 6? Now they can't call next year's radical redesign the 7S. Well using their logic of naming this year's phone, I guess they could.

Just get rid of those huge top and bottom bezels already.

Surprised they didn't call it Piano Black though. I mean pianos are glossy. Jet Black to me is more just pure matte Black more so than their slightly blacker spacer grey.

Yep, it takes courage to rake in billions in extra sales because of this. That is the motivation, nothing else.
What do you mean "rake in billions of extra sales"? They're throwing in a pair of lightning headphones and a FREE FREAKING ADAPTOR in the box. It'll cost them money if anything.

I do not understand why everyone is so salty over the headphone jack. Good riddance.

I doubt apple will back track but I really do hope the feedback they get on the headphone jack really is a forceful as it appears to be.

All i envisage is every iPhone owner walking round with the adapter dangling from their phone all the time.

Apple backtracks all the time. The 6 Plus's size is a great example of that.

Ignoring the jack removal, still (not) surprised they stuck with the same tasteless slab of aluminium. Hell, it's even less tasteful than the 6/6s because of that one less antenna line breaking up the design.

Yeah, courage would be dumping the lighting connector and adopting usb C like everyone else. They are the biggest cowards going. Especially giving us another year of big fat bezels!
They'll have to when the EU forces everybody to go micro-USB (most likely to be updated to USB-C) in 2017.

alright folks, what time do you think pre orders will start?i can't seem to remember how i did it last time.i think i had to set my alarm for 3am because I'm in the east coast.Any thoughts?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like iPhone SE 64GB dropped from $499 to $449. Looks like a great buy to me. (Wish it had 128 but it will do.)
Except that it's a got a tiny, weird, narrow screen. They nailed the size on the 4.7, now they just need to get rid of the bezels and physical home button.

I've been using bluetooth wireless headphones for a while now. My only concern for the headphone jack is credit card swiping as I have devices from PayPal and Mindbody that require this. So far I've heard no mention if these will work with the adapter. I think they need to authenticate before using and I don't know if they will authenticate with the adapter.
Anyone care to chime in about this?

And double the cameras... And double the performance...and....and...some people just aren't happy unless they can complain about something.
I just wonder what new design / features these folks want... The radical new design was the iPhone itself. What's next? Who knows...

Why are so many people charging their phones and
listening to music?? Do you all really do this so much? If so, why? If I can charge my phone then it's likely i'm somewhere I can use another device - eg my home cinema, my home hi-fi or my home recording studio setup...why would I be using headphones in my iPhone if I have access to these?

When I'm driving in my car, I always have both the aux and charging cables plugged in. So, yeah, this is an every day occurence. I don't think I'm alone.

They're not really free. The phones are more expensive. It's also going to be a huge licensing money deal with 3rd party headphone makers.

No headphone jack means you can't charge and listen to music with headphones/the car unless you have bluetooth or a lightning jack capable car stereo.

I thought that was the wrong thing to say, he just have said 'space is a premium and we want all kinds of things and using it for a single use port is pointless today' and leave it as a mic drop.
Literary any other Android flagship would kindly disagree with you.

Looks like the At&t and TMobile variant doesn't support CDMA networks this year, but the Verizon model supports GSM networks too and has the same bands.

I'll go with the Verizon unlocked one. No reason to get the GSM only model

From the photos, it doesn't look like you can charge while listening to headphones. If true, that's a pretty huge downside. The only option would be to spend more money on wireless headphones of some kind.

This isn't normally a problem for me. Ironically, it would be a problem just a few times a year, during Apple presentations. (Streaming HD video for 2 hours can be a big battery drain... and since their presentations often occur while I'm at work, I listen on headphones.)

Wireless headphones would nicely fix it for me, but I'm not interested in spending extra to get headphones.
