The plans haven't gotten cheaper here... So it must still be built-in but they don't give you the subsidy anymore.
That always bothered me. They always say, "the cost of the subsidy is built into the monthly bill"...but when I was last on a subsidized phone once the two year period was up I didn't receive a lower bill, though I inquired. On the other hand, when I switched plans and all the lines were from phones that had already passed their two-year contracts, our monthly charge DID go down, significantly.

As a photographer, do you think "fake" bokeh is kinda lame?
yes, it looks as junky and weird as all other fake bokeh cameras. When things are out of focus you get distortion in the light coming from behind. The way it blurs the edges isn't right and it just looks bad to my eyes.

Really cool how Apple made the AirPods experience so seamless. Anyone can make a quality pair of bluetooth EarPods, but leave it to Apple to overhaul how they connect and sync across all your devices and greatly increase the user experience with a simple idea.

That is Apple.

Yep love the look of the gloss black, but when apple state your better off using a case then kinda defeats the purpose

So could someone explain this to me? Shouldn't my monthly plan be lower now that the phone is no longer subsidized?

Only on your out of contract phone line. Hopefully you're not paying a 40 dollar a month device fee. Don't do that..lol Keep your phone lines out of contract. Only buy phones on a second line (always just add a line) and then convert it to a tablet or smart device line @5 or 10 a month.

Need to work out if my free upgrade with O2 is better or worse than going with the Apple payment plan in the U.K.

I'm trying to get my head around the upgrade program pricing. It says £33.45 is based on 20 instalments adding to £718. But the 7 costs £599 so it looks like you're paying an inflated price.

A bit is an understatement. Again, the value of the earbuds increased by five times because they got rid of some cable, which reduces the audio quality and makes you lose them.

But good on Apple. Now they can continue spout that they want a wireless future when wireless charging has been a technology used in multitude of devices for years.

Apple like any other tech company will not introduce new technologies unless the existing ones are no longer profitable.

Sounds like some proprietary technology. Waiting for details... If it was lossless, they would have told us.

I'm guessing it has to be bluetooth or at least use bluetooth radio since when syncing with iCloud it works "on all your devices". iPads, etc,

That was the dullest Apple event I think I've ever seen. Poor Phil looked embarrassed when he tried to explain away the removal of the ability to use headphones with the thing. And they had the cheek to go on about the design, when it's plan for everyone with eyes to see that it looks identical to the iPhone 6, just with an even larger camera bulge.

I think my iPhone 6 will be my final iPhone. Sad, as I've been with iPhones since the 3G, but the headphone jack was a red line. Not just because of audio quality, but because I charge and listen all day, every day, be that at my desk or in my car. And dongles are, to be frank, imbecilic.

why 64gb had to disappear?

So that next year, they become courageous enough to be audacious enough to say that we did it again, now the base storage is 64GB, and we keep 128GB and 256GB, or maybe add 512GB at the top. Who knows. But stuntmen they are, of the highest quality. :p

Why are so many people charging their phones and listening to music??

Why are so many people willing to rob their mom's purse and burglarize their neighbor's house to get $800 to purchase hardware that is beneath a pentium processor? The USB-C ports and Apple's ports transmit in USB 2.0 speeds. The Bluetooth can't transmit high grade audio codecs. Paying $800 for an iPhone is like dropping six thousand for an entry level 15" Retina Macbook Pro.

These phones are all grossly overpriced crap. Flagship on down.

No more $199, $299, $399 thanks to the extinction of subsidized contract prices.

Correct.

It's now $32/month, $36/month, $40/month for the phone itself... plus whatever your service plan is.

But remember... you were always paying for the phone even with the old contracts and "subsidies"

Did you really think you were *only* paying $199 for a brand new iPhone? That your cell carrier was giving you a true subsidy? Or a gift?

No... the retail price of the phone was always built into your monthly phone bill. YOU were paying for it.

At least now you can see it.

And before anyone says "it was cheaper with contracts and subsidies..."

Your overall monthly payments would likely have gone up anyway even if they kept contracts and subsidies. Things like this tend to get more expensive over time... not less. Your cost to own an iPhone in 2016 is higher than it was in 2011. I don't think you can blame that strictly on the loss of contracts and subsidies.

It's difficult to make any sort of comparison between the old way of buying phones and the new way.

Hell... back then you had to choose how many minutes you wanted... how many text messages you wanted... and maybe how much data you wanted. What was that worth?

But today... voice and texts are so devalued that everyone just gets them included. And it's now your data allotment that is the bulk of your bill.

Times change... prices go up. But you're still on the hook for paying for the phone. Just like you always have.

Will be looking into the upgrade plan that is now in the UK.

Is it a good deal for anyone who is currently on it?
I like it. Easy to not think about having to sell your phone. It's more expensive given what you could get for selling your phone each year, but for 0 hassle, I like it. I always hated dealing selling my phone.

From the apple site:

Jet black is available in 128GB and 256GB models. The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.

The bolded one worries me

I want to know if one of the "many cases" available to me is the one currently on my 6. Anyone know if the cases are compatible?

Sounds like some proprietary technology. Waiting for details... If it was lossless, they would have told us.

Apple's site says it's bluetooth without going into further detail at the moment. Definitely won't be lossless, but I'm assuming it's much better than standard bluetooth audio connections (otherwise why make their own chip?).

There have never been subsidised phones, the cost was built into your monthly plan charge!

No. The current option of splitting the total cost of the phone over multiple months and adding to your monthly bill is a relatively recent change. A few years ago you could buy a new phone at a discounted rate because the phone companies were subsidizing the costs.

Snarky at all the nonsense negative comments. People on here are really something else.
I agree with that. All the talk about it being the same, no innovation, blah blah is tiring. So many negative comments from people who will probably upgrade anyway.
