That was the dullest Apple event I think I've ever seen. Poor Phil looked embarrassed when he tried to explain away the removal of the ability to use headphones with the thing. And they had the cheek to go on about the design, when it's plan for everyone with eyes to see that it looks identical to the iPhone 6, just with an even larger camera bulge.

I think my iPhone 6 will be my final iPhone. Sad, as I've been with iPhones since the 3G, but the headphone jack was a red line. Not just because of audio quality, but because I charge and listen all day, every day, be that at my desk or in my car. And dongles are, to be frank, imbecilic.

You listen to music in your car using earphones? Why wouldn't the wireless option work in this scenario?

iphone 7 plus prices in the UK: $959, $1092, $1225

lol

Nonsense. UK prices are in British Pound, not in dollars. And they are high because of (a) 20% VAT, (b) the cost of better consumer rights in the UK compared to the USA, and (c) the decision of the UK voters to leave the European Union, to a large extent driven by the lies of Nigel Farage who is recently found crawling in Donald Trump's arse, and Boris Johnson, the Donald Trump look alike, which led to a massive devaluation of the British Pound.

Apple has finally gotten rid of the ridiculous 16 GB model. But I'm a bit annoyed at the fact that the 7 Plus gets a significantly improved camera over the 7 -- I much prefer the smaller form factor, but I also want the better camera.

Haha, of the 40-or-so photos of iPhone 7 on Apple's website not one shows <the place where the headphone connector used to be>. The photos have either been cropped at exactly that point, of there's a convenient piece of advertisement text placed over it. Poor Apple Marketing, they must have been really nervous on how to sell this "feature".

You could tell he didn't want to be talking about it. He wasn't describing it as a feature, he was justifying the fact they'd removed it by desperately stating alternatives.

I will probably be getting the iPhone 7 but seriously what is up with the bezels. Why have they not made them smaller. It has a 5.5 inch screen but is bigger than a note 7 in ever dimension except depth and even then it's small difference. I'd rather have a smaller bezels then a thinner phone.

Or is there finally a collective understanding that full price for cell phones was always being paid and the "subsidy" was instead a loan. A magic trick that looked *very real* -- $350-$450 off for a 2-year service commitment. But just an illusion and nothing more.

I don't have problem with anyone preferring subsidy, to EIP, to full price as a method of payment. As long as there is an understanding subsidies aren't "free money" or gifts or a signing bonus, or whatever.

Thank you... I also shared a similar sentiment above.

People thought the iPhone only cost $199. Silly people. :D

When Apple removed the floppy disk, everyone knew the CD was a superior upgrade. When Apple removed the optical drive, usb drives and digital downloads were the superior upgrade. Bluetooth and wireless audio have not proven to be the superior upgrade to wired audio. Whether or not wireless audio can ever match or exceed wired is a huge question mark.

That's not actually true. 3.5mm headphone jack is analogue, so it has to covert the digital recording into analogue which means quality loss in the sound. Lighting is fully digital. So it will be better quality.

Good luck with that. I remember lots of people griping about Lightning when it first came out and it doesn't look like we ever went back to 30-pin.

I honestly believe Apple is making this move for the right reasons and I think phone technology will be better off for it. I say that as an owner of wired headphones.

I agree. I can't see myself with wireless headphones unless they're as good as sounding as wired ones but I understand why they're doing it. At least they included the adapter.

For the same price you now get 128gb. Why would you want 64?

I don't. Was just responding to another member who was curious why 64GB had to disappear. I think what he might have also wanted to say is that 64GB could/ should have been the base tier.

AppleCare+ is also included.

Yeah thought it might be that. It's a shame you have to have Apple Care if you want the upgrade program. The iPhone Payments program doesn't come with Apple Care but is just a finance program and doesn't offer upgrades.

It's time for the annual "which iPhone is best" edition. It looks like Apple is explicitly saying that the A1778 and A1784 (AT&T/T-Mobile 7 and 7 Plus) do NOT support CDMA networks. So the "Verizon/Sprint" unlocked edition is the best.

Explain to me how this idiotic adapter will let me listen and charge at the same time?

And when the adapter inevitably gets lost, or like all Apple cables falls apart after 12 months, how much do you think Apple will want for a new one?

This is bone headed design and positively hostile to customers. It will cost Apple dearly.

No worries. Moto, Sanyo, Acer, and Samsung have phones for you with the old jack.

The courage to switch to the phone that meets your needs... Just do it and find happiness!

Why did it HAVE to happen?

This move by Apple will foster innovation in the bluetooth headphone market. Eventually, bluetooth headphones will be more than we could ever wanted. Yeah, sure, they could have waited, but there's no time like the present!

Five years from now we'll all laugh.

If I read it correctly, the upgrade program comes with the Apple Care (therefore higher cost).

Yeah, and no option without Apple Care. It just seems like an unnecessary cost. Device insurance is usually pointless unless you're particularly careless.

Since the monthly rate did not drop after the contract ended, it is subsidized.

So not true when the 3GS was launched the price of the phone was not built into the contract and you did not get a discount after two years and you could turn around and sell your phone and essentially get a free upgrade after two years.

That's not actually true. 3.5mm headphone jack is analogue, so it has to covert the digital recording into analogue which means quality loss in the sound. Lighting is fully digital. So it will be better quality.
It just changes the point at which the digital audio is converted to analogue signal. And if the headphone manufacturer wants to cheap out, they can put in a crappy DAC that just makes the quality even ******** than it would be coming from an internal DAC.

LOL at the price increase. I'll stick to my SE, I'm done spending $800+ on phones

Yeah I think I'm of the same mind I sold my 6 Plus , but the increased prices and $160 Airpods I think Apple is moving past my comfort zone, I think I'm grabbing an SE, and will wait to see if the 8 brings a radical new design
