Do you think that your Lightning headphones will not be analog, or that the sound waves coming out of them are not analog?

Also, Lightning isn't just Apple-only. It's iDevice-only. If you spend $200 on a pair of headphones for your iPhone, you can't use them with a MacBook.

No. What I'm suggesting is digital-only from the source makes sense. It makes a device just a delivery device. You can get a cheap music/memory stick device for example, but then opt for an expensive set of headphones (w/ the built in DAC) for a great experience - something you'll carry between each device you have w/o the stupid DAC in the middle. This is a good thing for consumer choice.

Didn't consumer reports do a water test on the Galaxy and it short circuited?
I really hope that Apple isn't as stupid as Samsung and provides no warranty for water damages. Feel happy if you drop your phone in the toilet or use it in the rain and it still works afterwards, but don't expect a free replacement if you test how waterproof it is.

There have never been subsidised phones, the cost was built into your monthly plan charge!
Yes, but now if I want to continue that plan that includes the (hidden) monthly change, I have to buy a new phone at full price or on installment, so... paying twice to upgrade?! No thanks.

Explain to me how this idiotic adapter will let me listen and charge at the same time?

And when the adapter inevitably gets lost, or like all Apple cables falls apart after 12 months, how much do you think Apple will want for a new one?

This is bone headed design and positively hostile to customers. It will cost Apple dearly.

Apple is saving lots of money by moving to a waterproof/water resistant phones. That will completely take away that segment of phones that are being sold at replacement/repair prices rather than new/refurbished.

Cost comparison for Apple Care + along with the replacement/repair costs doesn't come to sales price of a new/refurb.

The depth of shallow field feature that apple says will recognize faces and blur the background....will you be able to do the same with non human faces?

RE: Subsidized pricing on Verizon....

Currently when I go to look at my eligible upgrade options, I see three options across the top of the screen; Retail Price, Monthly Payment, and 2-Year Contract.

These prices are independent of my rate plan.

The 2-Year Contract is $449 less than the retail and monthly payment prices. Hopefully this option is still available when the iPhone 7 is added to their site.

Also, before logging in, I looked for 2-year contract rates and I was unable to locate them. So it may not be available for new customers? Not really sure.

Yeah, lets just incrementally increase prices on everything since it's only pennies more per day when you think about it! God, consumers are stupid.

So you're going to show the courage to not buy that plus model after all? Which brand are you going with instead?

Pound already dropped vs the Euro - don't have to wait for brexit to be finalized.

Just checked the euro price in gbp is £858 for 128gb. £39 more. Eu prices are even more ridiculous. So it can't be brexit. Greed or something else.

I will be upgrading from the 4S. Will the lighting cable included still connect to my cars stereo USB port and function the same? Charge, play music and Use the maps app?

I'm afraid Phil the "SHILL" misspoke. He meant "Greed" as in $159 for AirPods! The only thing courageous is the price.
I can see users losing on of the airpods and going to the Apple store trying to buy just one.

It had to happen sometime. I'd say courage is accurate.

I think people seem to be ignoring this. It's 2016, why *not* push forward into better bluetooth and wireless technologies? Why not make room for the revamp they're going to be making next year with no bezels, etc? I'm not buying this year's version because I'm waiting for next year's, but if I hadn't gotten the 6S recently I'd be completely okay buying this model.

Maybe someday humans will come equipped with a Lightning input.

Until then I'd prefer the required DAC to be the high quality one in the iPhone rather than the unknown DAC in the adapter or headphones.
You and me both, but I guess we lack "Courage".

That's not huge. It's tiny actually, because you're talking about connecting your head to a wall for extended periods of time. How often do you think people will really want to do this?

You're buying an expensive mobile device (with the best battery life yet for an iPhone) but, oh no, you don't want to spend a few bucks on wireless headphones to avoid routinely connecting your head to a wall???

Also, if that's really what you want to do, you'll be able to buy a pass-through adapter that will allow you to charge and listen to wired headphones at the same time.

This has to be the worst argument for keeping the old headphone jack.
Some people plug their phone into their car stereo and charge it at the same time. Or into a home stereo and charge. Or on an airplane and into a power bank. You ever think about that genius?! Bluetooth connection is not as clear. Its not even close. The point is, now you have to buy more dongles and adapters. This "screw the customer, we want more money" attitude is the real and only reason they removed the hp jack. Go ahead and make excuses for them though. Apple loves its brainwashed customers.

I'm not sure this is true for everybody. As the subsidies have gone away, the plans have not gotten cheaper. In fact they have gotten more expensive.

Are you telling me that cell phone plans should have gotten cheaper over time?

Look... the carriers would have raised the price regardless of whether contracts and subsidies were a thing or not.

What service has actually gotten cheaper over the years? Netflix when from $8/month to $10/month. Amazon Prime went from $79 a year to $99 a year. And the $1 menu has all but vanished from most fast-food joints.

And yes... even the cell carriers are charging more money for service (they didn't make much, if any, money on the sale of the phone itself)

Things don't tend to get cheaper over time. You better get used to it. :D

I bet there will be less expensive options on the market quite soon. Here is what I used a few years ago in an older car - sound quality was good enough for me. (Keep in mind that I'm not an audiophile).

That's yet another dongle that the new phone requires.
I suspect they will move the DAC out of the phone to the lightning connector. This raises the question about the quality of the DAC that we are going to see in that connector.

Lightning cables transmit analogue signals as well as digital. They're not going to put a DAC inside the dongle when there's already one in the phone (it's still used by the speakers, you know).

It was like that in the era of subsidized phones. The carrier was not spotting you for a new phone and you just paid a part of it. The rolled the cost into your contract. The new payment plans now allow you to affect your monthly plan based on the actual cost of the phone. Want a lower bill, get a cheaper data plan OR a cheaper device.

This would all make sense if my rate plan (that previously included the cost of a subsidized phone) dropped by $25/month...but it hasn't and there is not an option that provides the same amenities at this discounted price.

Your solution means I not only give up the subsidized device, but I also loose other features such as included data.....so again....this explanation is invalid.

Yes, it's true. It takes courage to release such an underwhelming round of updates and stand on stage putting a straight face. It takes courage make changes nobody asked for, products that are still playing catch up to your competitors, and to allow Lady Ga-Ga meets Cousin It on stage so it can stand there and lip sync to it's own terrible songs. Well done Apple, and God speed you crazy warrior!

Yeah, we needed more room for the extra speaker, so people could have "Stereo".

When was the last time you saw someone use their iPhone as a boombox?
Every time someone shows somebody a Facebook video they see? Every time they click a link that takes them to YouTube? Every time someone sends them an Audio Message? Audio quality is more important than 100 year old technology. Also. Free adapter. If you disagree, you still get to use your antique, dated equipment. Without paying any more to do so.

With everybody complaining about the 3.5mm jack being stripped out completely, you do realize that it was about time? I can't tell you the countless times my cords on my Bose and on my Sony MDR-7506 and Sennheiser HD-280s and even my regular Apple earphones have gotten snagged on, ripped out of my ear, or shredded the cord entirely because it would snag on a doorknob or backpack or some odd corner. So yes, I welcome the new upgrade to getting rid of the 3.5mm jack. How else are we suppose to move forward if we never take a step into the unknown? The advancement of bluetooth headphones will only get better with time which will result in better, more reliable headphones. Remember when they got rid of the optical drive? Or snipped the cords for the mouse and keyboard? I'd say, isn't it about time we go wireless with out audio?
No, wireless sounds shi***

The lightning to audio adapter is cheap at least. Apple is selling it for $9 http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMX62AM/A/lightning-to-35-mm-headphone-jack-adapter?fnode=97

Courage? The courage not to buy an iPhone until they bring back the headphone jack. It's been around 100+ years for a reason. Wireless is a pain when flying and using phone in airplane mode....
It will be around 100+ more years. Just on fewer and fewer devices, until most people view it as an archaic curiosity.
