I am getting so fed up with the Apple hypobole and lack of real innovation. Today was so underwhelming. Anyone else considering jumping ship to Android?

All this talk of innovation or lack thereof is silly. How much innovation is anyone really doing with smartphones? We are in an era of small, incremental changes. No new devices from anyone are truly game changing.

Apple internal memo: Hey guys, since we didn't actually change anything or have really any new products to offer, just keep saying, "Completely new!" and "Completely re-designed" and "Our best ever!" over and over and people will think the iPhone 7 and everything else is revolutionary! :)

It is new! It's got a faster processor and different home button, a better camera etc, battery, thinner. Is it revolutionary? No. Tell me what is revolutionary in todays smartphones. The original iPhone was revolutionary and everything that followed after it were essentially follow the leader, copy cat devices.

Haters gonna hate.

And in my case it's quite a trek to my nearest Apple Store I'd literal have to take a day off work to get there and back.

Yeah, don't see why it can't be done online really. To be honest, with these prices (and the fact I literally cracked my 6S Plus screen yesterday and I'm having a bugger of a time getting a quote from Apple to just change the screen instread of the full out of warranty repair cost) I might start considering Android. A bit cheaper, still got headphones jack, some have upgradeable storage, and Android really isn't the dog it was a few years ago.

That is what's happening. This model was put together after their suppliers couldn't get the needed parts for their original design for this, which will now be moved to the 8, next year. They over thought themselves and are now using "10th Anniversary" as a crutch.
So yeah you still didn't answer my question. Did Tim Cook tell you this? Where are you getting this information? Don't present things like this as fact. It makes you look really foolish.

That has to be the most unfitting comment for the iPhone 7 yet.

With the 6S, you have a choice between two options: use the internal amp and DAC in the iPhone and plug in a pair of headphones to the 3.5mm output or get the direct digital audio out of the Lightning port and handle the amplification and DAC any way you want outside of the phone. Again, I'd like to note that there are two options there. Two, 2, 二.

What do you have with the iPhone 7? Oh right, you have one of those options, the latter one. One option is not really an option or a matter of choice. You can either do it or you can't.

I dunno what you want other than just be pissed off. 3 years from now I doubt analog jacks will exist on any phone, much less any other personal devices - it's ridiculous to think that after the pace we've had w/ smartphones and their size/complexity could sustain such an old input device. The iPhone isn't even 10yrs old, and wow.

We're going wireless, passing all the dac stuff to receivers/headphones/etc. Everyone was upset with apple or steve for being so stubborn refusing blu-ray, removing the optical drive, refusing adobe flash on iOS, etc. Tech is moving faster and faster and they're just the first ones to make a forward step. It'll suck (I actually have a very nice set of Sennheiser cans) but this is just another one of those changes.

That's yet another dongle that the new phone requires.

Lightning cables transmit analogue signals as well as digital. They're not going to put a DAC inside the dongle when there's already one in the phone (it's still used by the speakers, you know).
Pretty sure the lightning connector does not transit analogue audio. There are presently two DAC in the phone one for the speakers and another for the Analogue output.

What do you mean "rake in billions of extra sales"? They're throwing in a pair of lightning headphones and a FREE FREAKING ADAPTOR in the box. It'll cost them money if anything.

I do not understand why everyone is so salty over the headphone jack. Good riddance.

He/she needs something to bithc about. Their life must be a dismal, sad place.

I can totally speak from experience. Playing music through Bluetooth in my car sounds like **** when compared to directly playing the audio files on the player itself.

The only thing that I want going over Bluetooth is speech.

Yeah... I have a bluetooth enabled speaker system in my car as well... sounds completely fine and normal. Sounds like you have a terrible DAC or you bought yourself a really crappy set. Sorry, mate.

To everyone wondering about how cell phone plans have changed over the years... I found this old Verizon brochure from 2011

JkmeRqv.jpg

For a single line... it was $90 a month for just unlimited talk and text.

And data was an additional $50 a month for 5GB of data.

Your total monthly bill was $140 a month.

And you still had to pay $199 at the time of purchase for the current base iPhone.

Now here's what I just pulled up today:

For a single line... unlimited voice and text... and 8GB of data... it's $90 a month for the service.

Plus $27.08 a month for the phone.

That's a grand total of $117.08 a month.

And no money down for the current base iPhone.

Kinda hard to make a true comparison between the two since they are so different... and of course family plans would be different as well... but at least you get the idea.

You do know that you're absolutely, completely wrong, right? Jet means the absolute darkest black possible. It gets its name from the mineral, Jet...which is used to make glossy, very black, jewelry.
Then I stand corrected, but don't ever buy spray paint, you'll be disappointed.

Indeed. Apple has simply chosen to move the DAC to a far less convenient location for no good reason whatsoever.

The Samsung Galaxy S7, Sony Xperia Z5 and numerous other water resistant devices would disagree.

Why yes, I am. Bluetooth audio (AptX included) has a dreadful tendency to vary the pitch of the stream in order to compensate for changes in bandwidth availability due to signal strength.

So what you're saying is we ought to just abandon the technology altogether and not find a way to improve whatsoever and live in a perpetual state of....never moving forward. Right, right. Glad you're not the one making decisions here in the tech world, otherwise we'd still be working by candlelight or using pigeon carriers or something.

Well that sucks, the Bluetooth in my car actually sounds pretty good. I would say its definitely better than 62kbs that SiriusXM has and very, very few people complain about that. I'm guess none of the people complaining about the bluetooth quality have SiriusXM Radio.
Bluetooth music in my car sounds great, cant tell the difference from bluetooth to using the Aux in.

Why are you here if you don't like Apple or it's products??

The only issue you have with the 3.5mm jack is that it's old? That's it? So you want to have less options on your phone because it's old. GSM is also old and yet your iPhone supports it.

Why do you think that there's a separate DAC for digital signal coming from Bluetooth than there is for digital signal coming from direct file data? Sounds like you actually have a terrible system and/or terrible seat of ears.

the new A10 chip is amazing!! up to 40% more performance than before, so prepare to experimenting lags in just iOS updates :D

are they injecting synthol on the iOS???

I use the 3.5 audio jack every day when i go for a walk, but i cannot wait for those Airpods, i can get rid of that cable that gets in the way.

Yep, it takes courage to rake in billions in extra sales because of this. That is the motivation, nothing else.

It's a financial risk to remove something that apparently everyone and their grandpa cares so deeply about. The cash grab is giving people what they want, not convincing them otherwise. How are they making more money? You don't have to buy those wireless AirPods, they are the same as the higher end EarPods that apple has provided previously, some people will buy them, but its not what everyone will use. We all will use the in-box headphones and the adapter. No extra$, how has apple made extra money on this choice?

Can always switch to next. Its what i plan on doing now that the subsidies are gone. Still on grandfathered plan since 08.
If I didn't use 10GB+ of data a month, I'd have done so already.
