No- a handful of people trying to "prove it with their wallets" are not going to make any meaningful impact on sales or corporate decisions. But when people are vocal about their issues, they bring them to light for others who may not have noticed. Do you remember when Apple lowered the price of the first iPhone from $600 to $200 and people who had just paid $600 were pissed and complained? Apple made an unprecedented offer to give money back to customers who had purchased it at the higher price within a certain time frame. Had people just sucked it up and gone about their days, NOTHING would have been done. To advocate to fellow consumers that they should just shut up and buy or shut up and don't buy is just asking to be taken advantage of at every opportunity.

Nope... You're changing the subject now. We were talking about courage and courageous acts. You said in post #741: "...but I at least have the "courage" to complain when I feel I'm being taken advantage of." I'm saying that's not courageous at all.

Being courageous is taking a stand where there are potential adverse consequences involved. Making noise on MacRumors is not courageous - there's no risk to you personally for complaining. Dozens do that here everyday.

Standing up and refusing to be taken advantage of by not accepting the $20 price increase for the plus model you initially wanted to purchase and instead taking a chance with a phone from another manufacturer is courageous. There is risk and potential adverse consequences to you personally for that decision - i.e. ending up with a phone that you end up not liking.

What is the problem?

They are providing you an adapter free of charge. And they're moving into the fully digital world.

To me it sounds like a win-win.

A fully DRMd world, maybe?

Charge is a key word here, that Apple hopes people will ignore. Many seem to be.

How exactly can one listen to their wired headphones and CHARGE their phone at the same time? Like, in bed for instance. Brief conversations with customers I've had since the end of the keynote leads me to believe that this is a common use case. So, where's the solution? $160 wireless earphones? Please.

No worries. Moto, Sanyo, Acer, and Samsung have phones for you with the old jack.

The courage to switch to the phone that meets your needs... Just do it and find happiness!

I may well do just that. My iPhone 6 will keep trucking for a few years yet first though.

You do know that you're absolutely, completely wrong, right? Jet means the absolute darkest black possible. It gets its name from the mineral, Jet...which is used to make glossy, very black, jewelry.
Actually, that person you quoted is correct. Jet, a minor gem, is really decayed wood fosilised under extreme pressure. It is matte.
Onyx, on the other hand, does have a sheen.
The two minor gems are often confused.

It looks that the stereo speakers are not really that good or even stereo:
"Apple's press pit was a madhouse, and as a result it was damned hear impossible to get a sense of the iPhone 7's new stereo speakers. Still, I figured out a few things -- while Apple's on-stage imagery sort of made it look like there's a another discrete speaker on top of the phone, the audio just comes out of the main earpiece speaker."

The adaptor shows how little faith Apple have in removing the headphone jack.

Imagine Apple under Jobs including an adaptor.
Not really. A lack of faith would be a situation where both options were on the same iPhone. Apple has redesigned their phones by eliminating the 3 mm headphone jack. That's a clear sign of commitment to the lightning connection. The adapter is a way to acknowledge that lots of their customer base will not have a matching type of earphones when the iPhone 7 hits the market. That would mean slower sales, so this is clearly a smart move.

I'm liking this new iPhone. But I'll be waiting another year, as I've got a fully working iPhone 6s. In fact, iOS 10 makes it feel like a whole new phone to me. And next iPhone will be even better, so no reason for me to upgrade now. :p

By the way, that camera... damn, didn't expect such a major improvement. Pity most of the stuff goes to the 7 Plus. I'd be happy to get a more expensive iPhone 7 Pro or something, but I simply don't want a 5.5 inch display. Hope they 'fix' this with the next one.

Does anyone know if any thunderbolt headphones have a power passthrough port? If you're low on battery power, how will you power your phone & listen to wired headphones? While I can get BT headphones, but what if they need to be charged as well?

You charge them with your courage! Weren't you paying attention ;-)

Have you paid attention to MR and other sources the past few months? I'll have to mark down your screen name to say "hello, are you ready to upgrade to the new redesigned iPhone 8" at next year's iPhone reveal.:D
Yah you can ignore those rumors.

What do you think next year's iPhone 7s will upgrade? It will probably just upgrade the CPU and Camera again.

Your argument is based in semantics. I put "courage" in quotes because I was referencing your use of the word and Phil Schiller's on stage. In no way did I literally mean the act of my complaining takes courage. But I think you know this and since you really have no better argument for consumer complacency, you chose to focus on this one word.

What he said on stage were all good and valid reason and yes ultimately it takes courage. It was a rare moment of honesty on stage.

Only makes sense if they solve the problem for us. Should be wireless charging for the phone so you can charge and listen at the same time. I always have my phone on charge and listen to music cause the battery is so rubbish. That said I really like the look of the airpods but it's not perfect to have to rotate airpods, charging and lightning EarPods

Why? The adapter is included with the phone.

An adapter can be lost, misplaced, taken by a family member who lost theirs, etc. Will Apple include the adapter for future iPhones, in particular next year's iPhone 8? For better or worse, Apple is definitely moving us toward wireless, preferably their wireless products. Personally, I can see that someday I'll care as much about losing the jack as I feel today about losing the optical drive. It's just the transition period I'm a little worried about. Many questions at the moment. Will wireless reach the sound quality level many of us want (BT v.5?), price, how will other companies respond, USB-C replacing Lightning, etc.

You won't be able to fit a better A/D converter into a headset than you can fit into an iPhone. Anyone who had a serious look at the iPhone's audio output has been impressed by the quality. You will most definitely not be able to get _much better_ quality.

You can, the iPhone DAC is poor. Audio Dragonflys give much better quality - they now need to build a lightning version in a smaller body.

Try? How about be forced to try. If Apple was so hell-bent on converting to digital sound, we've had headphone and earpods and such years ago when the lightning connector was invented. Instead, they TAKE AWAY something and force us to use something else because it's different? How is it different than the lightning port in my iPhone 6?

Forced? Yeah, why not? Some of the greatest inventions have been done by force. Some of the greatest artworks and music have been done by being creatively strict or removing an element. It teaches us how to work around the problem. You're seeing it as a problem because it's an obstruction, while others may see it as an opportunity to improve upon how we can overcome that obstruction. So yeah, being forced makes us think of another solution. What's the matter with that?

I was pretty sold on a Note 7, but the upgrades do seem a little nicer than expected. I love the matte black look too. Luckily I have time before I switch to T-Mobile, so I won't be purchasing too soon. Plenty of time to view the Note 7 and 7 Plus in person before deciding. Either way, I'm far more pumped about the 8 than I am the Note or 7 Plus.

My Car does not have a iPod dock so I use the 3.5mm and the lightning charger at the same time. Now what do I do, charge or listen to music and navigation.

I will pass.

I'm on the last legs using the iPhone 5. Not sure if I can hold on until next year's iPhone but it is freakin' expensive here in Germany, especially the 7 Plus 128 GB as I really like the Black model.

If you were in Apple's marketing department, I would understand the statement you just made to ignore those rumors, but with many sources, including MR and one source that seems to be on the money most of the time, sticking their necks out on these rumors, any logical person should at the very least be open to the possibility that they're true.

Yeah, the prices are high which explains why my iPhone usually seems to be in the minority when I walk the streets of Frankfurt and other German cities. So many Samsung phones. The only time I saw a bunch of iPhones together was at the Apple Store in Frankfurt.

Tempted. But resisted. I'll wait next year for iPhone 8. Shame, because this will be the first year I won't be buying a new iPhone.
Besides the camera, the upgrade is just too subtle.

... If this is the first year not buying an iPhone, then that kinda means you bought all of the S models which were also minor updates. The speed of the A10, the camera, the improved Taptic engine, and the Stereo speakers are enough for me to love this phone all over again.
