Does anyone feel like 32 GB is enough? My current Moto X is only 32 GBs, and I've been getting by.

32GB was enough for me during the iPhone 5 era.
When I got my 6+ I got 64GB and I have 22GB of space remaining. 32GB would not be enough for me with even higher resolution photos and videos.

I believe 32 GB is perfect. I have been consistently close to 16GB over the years, and needed that little extra GB to be content with storage. I'll be getting the 32GB.

The bokeh is definitely a software effect - it's demonstrated in the keynote.
thanks. i didn't watch the keynote.
i assumed we'd have to wait for the feature to be used by more people in order to figure out what was happening but i suppose it's already been publicly outlined by the execs : )

Nice advertising for stereo:

That's how it should be. But I'm sure stereo speakers both firing out of the bottom is the same. Lol.

They should have put another speaker on top for real stereo imagine. You know...like their ad.

the other speaker is at the top though, right?
from what i've read so far, there's a speaker at the bottom as in the past models then the second speaker is the earpiece speaker.

I get the space, but a battery takes up space inside too, but it isn't a valid reason to take it out. And I will point out again, I had an android that had an open headphone jack and was water resistant, it is just that Apple is too lazy to figure out how Sony did it, and is too obsessed with thinness.
is the 7 thinner than the 6?
idk, i don't really think apple removed the miniphone jack in order to make the 7 thinner than earlier models.

We can't even use them on our Apple computers. I could get Apple trying to force people to wireless a little before the technology is to the point where it is as good or better than wired, but if they wanted to do that then they should have included wireless headphones in the box instead of trying to charge over $150 for them.

i don't think they jumped the gun any earlier than they've done in the past.
for me personally at least, i've been using wireless headphones and wirelessly connecting to the sound system in my workshop for over a year now.. and i'd definitely say my current headphones are (much) better than anything wired i've used in the past (albeit- i spent nearly $300 on my headphones ; ) )

again, for me personally, it's like when apple removed the superdrive.. it didn't matter to me at all because i didn't use the thing anyway and had already moved on to future (now current) methods prior to them removing it.

idk, did apple make the move early? sure, i suppose i can agree with that even though it's not affecting me any.. but when you look at apple's past early moves, i think you'll find in the vast majority of instances, it's worked out just fine and even the hardcore_est of hanger-ons adapted to the move and no longer sit around complaining about it.. in other words, while i understand people getting worked up about the removal of the 3.5mm jack today, it will likely be a non-issue in a relatively short amount of time.
it's not a matter of if you'll change your mind.. it's a matter of when.

if you want to make it out that apple is forcing you to change your mind then so be it.. in a round about way, that is what they're doing.. but i don't particularly agree with the negative connotation of 'force' as you're using it.. some (or most even) people are resistant to change in which case, sure, they'll need some prodding to keep somewhat current with technology changes.

I have no doubt that you handed someone $199 in a store. But the question is where the other $450 went.

:)

It's not a question. As I've stated several times we all know the carrier amortizes it across your plan in the form of a higher rate.

Yep... that's what I found.

2014 Verizon - iPhone - subsidized:

$199 down
Unlimited voice/text
2GB data
Total = $75/month

2016 Verizon - iPhone - device payments:

No money down
Unlimited voice/text
2GB data
$27/month for the phone
$20/month for "line fee" (voice/text)
$35/month for data
Total = $82/month

Ok, the part I've bolded is likely the difference I'm speaking of. So far anyone trying to explain the fact that non-subsidized prices are still "equal" in value has totally failed in this aspect. In fact, you are still not showing me my 2014 plan. My 2014 plan is just like the 2016 plan you listed but has a $40/month access fee.

As I've said repeatedly, if this access fee will be lowered by taking a non-subsidized phone, then all of the arguments FOR the non-subsidized prices still being fair and equal are correct. If Verizon will lower my access fees to the $20/month rate, then the argument has been satisfied. Last time I checked it was not an option, but perhaps that was because my contract had a few days left.

The question is, is the lower rate available to all new customers and have all the carriers lowered their non-subsidized rates? If so, I'll jump the fence to the other side.

But I'd like to point out, that so far most people have sucked at explaining exactly where and how the rates were lowered to absorb the added cost of the equipment the customer is paying. I did see one or two references to the AT&T Next plan having a discount...but I'm not on AT&T so it didn't mean much to me.

I agree. 32GB is the sweet spot for my needs and was doing great with the 5s at 32GB. Now I have the 6s and had to go with the 64GB because 16GB wasn't cutting it. At least now going forward I can get the base storage option and still be golden.

The problem I see is that my two main current headphones are Sennheiser HD25s and HD650s. These things are built like tanks and will outlast my next 2 or 3 iPhones. I'll be stuck with the adapter for a long time to come...in fact the HD650s use a 6.5mm plug so it will be lightening to 3.5mm converter plugged into a 3.5 mm to 6.5mm converter then into the 6.5mm plug. Haha. Not particularly elegant. But hey they sound superb.

the new iphone is really nice...especially that "Jet Black"... I'm surprised nothing else was said about Macbook Pro's, MacPro, etc... a whole event for just the watch and iphone. wow!

They are literally all like this. The iPad/Macs have their own events.

I use Verizon and have a plan where I pay 200 or more down, and then committed to the company for another two years -or pay to be released. The only benefit is I can leave when I want. However, I don't plan to leave because Verizon's service is the most consistent where I live and in the primary places I travel to for work. SO for me, I could wait for this mysterious 10th anniversary iPhone, but what if it is seriously disappointing? and if it is great, I get the improved version a year later.

I went to my account and the new prices aren't any better than what I pay. They are still $40 a line for multiple phones. My data plan I think is $5 more than it is now for 130 gigs. I think people's complaints are justified. You pay the same price for the service, but now you pay the complete cost for the phone. Apple benefits, the carriers benefit, and consumers lose.

This concept is used in almost all chips inside of Android phones for years now.
It's called big.LITTLE architecture and is the reason why some iOS-people are always laughing about the amount of cores in Android phones.

An Exynos 8890 oder Snapdragon 810 is not a real octacore, these are quadcores with another low power quadcore for power saving. A10 is a dualcore with another low power dualcore for power saving.

Of course it's still true that Apple is building the best ARM CPUs, but not by the astronomic 2 cores crushing 8 cores margin that some people believed in.

The implementation of big.little by ARM is poor. The two sets of cores are in separate clusters which means there's a huge penalty if you want to move a thread from a high performance core to a low performance core and vice versa. If the scheduler makes a mistake and puts a thread into the wrong core then you suffer later on.

While Apple didn't call out the ARM for their implementation (they do license IP from them after all) they hinted at it when they mentioned their custom "performance controller".

This is not a case of copying something that's been around for awhile - this is a case of a superior implementation.

Why don't you switch to a Verizon plan where the access fee for not-subsizied phones is $20/month?

I don't think there's any example of where paying monthly for a phone on an old plan that doesn't give the discount is "any better".

There are examples of where paying monthly for a phone on a newer plan is less expensive than doing the above.

This will be East coast time or West?
Pacific Time

To Apple's credit they managed to announce the removal of the headphone jack without resorting to any misinformation about it being necessary for water resistance. Does the lie really need to live on here in the forum? The only reason to make up imaginary explanations for the removal is if you think the real reasons are not good enough.

Actually, according to an interview with Buzzed, they did:

https://9to5mac.com/2016/09/07/apple-headphone-jack-removal/

Even better, removing the audio jack also eliminated a key point of ingress that Riccio says helped the new iPhone finally meet the IP7 water resistance spec Apple has been after for years (resistant when immersed under 1 meter of water for 30 minutes).

I guess its no longer a "lie", correct?

Very excited!

Jet Black 7 Plus is the best looking iPhone since the 5s.
Careful .. it gets scratches / micro abrasions.
They recommend using a case but this is stupid and will ruin the beautiful design.
Transparent skin is the best option here.

I also have the original unlimited data plan. I checked with ATT and got their text message that my line is upgrade eligible "for a new smartphone with $0 down on AT&T Next." I recall skipping that when I got my 6plus because I'd lose my unlimited data. So if I'm reading all this right, I guess I won't be getting the 7.
You certainly will not lose your unlimited unless you change your plan. Sadly I think it's time to give mine up. I'm not paying an extra 300-400 a year for data I'm not going to use. It's time to move to a shared plan I think.

Not really. It's striking when @ prev. times you could see the logic behind the decision even if you were annoyed by it. But this time, there is no logic. It wasn't needed for waterproofing and the mechanical button wasn't really taking up as much space as adding a freaking Taptic Engine (which, btw, is the only component to take up the jack's space, and Lightning is not a better audio service than 3.5. And BT? BT is a joke. Airpods are using AirPlay which uses BT to connect and Wifi to transmit data, but current BT headphones? A joke

I think the logic of Analog vs Digital is enough to make the move. Again... just like everyone screamed when Apple took away CD/DVD players from the Mac. It was the right decision in the long run.

heh, maybe someone will make a lightning to 1/4" for people in your position? I suppose there may be other uses for an adapter like that such as plugging a guitar into a lightning port

Go fanboy go! Your obviously gonna buy anything Apple tells you to buy. Haha, you actually believe you're gaining something by this.

I haven't used the jack on my phone in a couple years so why wouldn't I consider buying a phone without one?

The lie in the text I quoted is that removing the headphone jack was the only way to achieve water resistance. As far as I can tell from the text you quoted is that Riccio says the way Apple did it was to remove the jack, as opposed to choosing a water resistant jack component. That's probably true, but does not constitute a claim about "no way" to achieve water resistance in another way.

If there is a quote from Apple perpetuating the lie that the only way was to remove the jack, I have yet to see it.

"Depth of field shot taken with the iPhone 7 Plus dual-lens camera"

Only available later in the year with a software update? Why not on launch!!!

It's not ready yet!!! That would be my guess. Can't wait 2-3 months? No worries, don't buy the phone!!!

Wouldn't ruin it if you get an air skin case or clear

That's my plan

I've got to admit, I'm digging that jet black color and finish. I mean, it probably takes fingerprints like nobodies business, so I may not get it, but it does look pretty all polished up.
