Is there an advantage to switching to the new plans? You're definitely the exception these days. It will probably be your last and you'll be doing the full price or installments when you upgrade to the 8s in two years.

You sound rather accident-prone, just don't complain when a lithium-ion battery explodes in your ear.
Please don't put words in my mouth. Forcing a with technology upon the consumer before it is ready when better performing alternatives exist is not innovation.
The iPhone 6 had full support for audio via Bluetooth, Lightning and 3.5mm. Removing the 3.5mm jack does not serve to benefit anybody other than Apple.
I also have the original unlimited data plan. I checked with ATT and got their text message that my line is upgrade eligible "for a new smartphone with $0 down on AT&T Next." I recall skipping that when I got my 6plus because I'd lose my unlimited data. So if I'm reading all this right, I guess I won't be getting the 7.Well it's not that simple. I will have to ditch my unlimited plan or pay an extraordinary amount. Now I have to select a share plan with less data. There are some positives - unlimited voice and text, and you do have an option to save money if you don't want to upgrade. But I personally don't like it for me.
Nah, not accident-prone. I'm just a busy guy moving from place to place and sometimes those cables just get snagged on stuff.

Well.....funny thing is......sometimes society doesn't see the benefit later down in the future. We eliminated the optical drive because NOW we saw how much better cloud storage and everything streaming is. Blu Rays and DVD players aren't as popular as Roku or Google's Chromecast or Apple TV due to the needlessness of optical drives with streaming content being more affordable and accessible. We got opted for wireless internet as oppose to hooking directly up via Ethernet to reduce cord clutter while in addition to offering wireless keyboards and mice. Also eliminating the 30 pin connector help usher in an era of a cable that was reversible no matter how you plugged it in...and now we're seeing phones and other devices using inductive charging to wirelessly charge. Was there anything wrong with any of this stuff before? No, not really. Nothing wrong with an optical drive or wired keyboards and mice or a solid internet connection through a cable or charging our phones and watches with cables tethered to the wall HOWEVER technology took off and made life simpler, a little more convenient. So you're staying that forcing a consumer to try a new technology EVEN though it's not perfected or performing better is not innovation than you've got quite a bit to learn, my dear friend, about the evolution of technology. You're only thinking of the now...maybe you ought to keep an open mind and start thinking of the 'what ifs'. If everybody though the same as you we'd still be churning butter, plowing fields by oxen, and bathing ourselves in boiling water in a kettle.
I've seen a few posts saying "If you're in the EU you won't need Apple Care + on the upgrade programme."
For the UK folks remember that we are exempt from that because of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which states that after 6 months the burden is on the consumer to prove that any fault is inherent should you wish to make a claim against a retailer. Basically you're going to have to pay for an engineer's assessment and then the retailer has it's discretion as to how to put you in the position you were before you're device broke - what is most cost effective to them

How many people? Most of them? All of them?
Surely Apple did some research in relation to this.
I can think of four types of people:
I would imagine that #1, #2 and #3 combined are the majority of iPhone users. Just a gut feeling I have.
- Those who never plug anything into the 3.5mm headphone jack
- Those who always use the included headphones
- Those who use Bluetooth headphones and/or Bluetooth in the car
- Those who rely on the 3.5mm headphone jack
And for those who are #4... they still have the option of using a 3" extension cable (dongle, included) with their 3rd-party headphones.
I'm thinking Apple weighed the pros/cons on this matter. And they decided the jack could go.
I get the space, but a battery takes up space inside too, but it isn't a valid reason to take it out. And I will point out again, I had an android that had an open headphone jack and was water resistant, it is just that Apple is too lazy to figure out how Sony did it, and is too obsessed with thinness. The headphone jack internals take up valuable space inside the phone and there would be no way to make the phone water resistant--without some kind of (easily misplaced) rubberized gasket for the headphone jack--so there is, indeed, a benefit to ditching it.
We can't even use them on our Apple computers. I could get Apple trying to force people to wireless a little before the technology is to the point where it is as good or better than wired, but if they wanted to do that then they should have included wireless headphones in the box instead of trying to charge over $150 for them. The problem, too, is no other manufacturer uses the lightning connector. I guess we need TWO sets of earbuds and TWO sets of headphones so we can use our OTHER NON-APPLE equipment?

So how am I supposed to charge my iPhone and listen to music at the same time on if I'm listening via non-bluetooth or non-AirPods head/earphones?
At least they could have given us wireless charging. I guess we'll get that next year and Apple will market it as being innovative.
I guess to some as long as the hype machine Jony Ive can use big words, people will still buy whatever Tim Cook is selling.
At work. I want to listen to my music collection. I don't want to drain my battery in the process.
I still use a 4S too. I'm debating if I want to get the 7 or wait until the 8. The other option would be just to spend a few bucks and get a new battery put in this one.
The blind apostles who see no wrong in anything Apple do will never agree. In their opinion nobody does what you suggest so they can go ahead and drop the jack. Are you not a true believer?
Besides hating dongles, it's just a major drop in function.
I'd say I charge my current phone while listening via headphones once or twice a week, and pretty much every time I fly. Can't do that when the plug to charge the phone is filled by my earphones.

it's going to look and act the same as it has for the past few years.. it's a little extension of the thing you're plugging in.. like, where is this absurd/ugly/nuisance view coming from?
to me, wires themselves are most certainly a nuisance and arguable re: the absurdity/ugly bit..
how can you be so adamant claiming wires (with or without adapters) are so sensible, pretty, & convenient while completely missing the realization that you don't even have to use wires anymore ??
as in -- wired headphones are a nuisance and absurd.. wired headphones which have a 3" extension on the end are a nuisance and absurd..
it's like you're arguing about whose fart smells better.
