What is the problem?

They are providing you an adapter free of charge. And they're moving into the fully digital world.

To me it sounds like a win-win.
Care to explain what "digital audio" is then? Afaik they're still using electromagnetism to move the drivers and that needs an analog signal. Those don't do **** with 1s and 0s.

If "courage" is the reason you remove an industry standard and replace it with a: Lightning (which Apple then needs to upgrade to USB-C if they want to continue selling the thing in the EU in the near future) and b: $160 wireless headphones that last for less than 1/4th of a day you can be 100% sure this is nothing more than a $$$ move, and not one that has to do with genuinely trying to improve the audio industry.

I'll be ordering 4 of these for my wife and kids. It's a good enough upgrade for me.

The A10 is very interesting in that Apple added 2 extra low power cores. The real advantage for Apple is their tight control of hardware/software. I bet that Apple will have some very specific scheduling going on with all the iOS threads (since they'll know exactly how much processor power they'll need) and will move a lot of OS specific items to the low power cores. So while your phone is in standby or doing background tasks all day it's going to be using these cores primarily.

Oh, and how dare Apple include the adaptor for free to take the wind out of the whiners saying Apple dropped the headphone jack so they could make more money selling adapters.

The jet black will scratch like crazy (you can always "hide" it in a 99$ case though).
Still 4k 30fps or was there a bump to 60fps?

Samsung's probably laughing at this. So much nonsense embellishment, few new things for a non-s phone. I love apple but the layering of fluff they put on these new products is frustrating.

I especially sighed at the W1 headphone chip announcement. Come on, an in-house chip for freaking headphones? Which is probably just aptX bluetooth so it means nothing? What if I want another brand that doesn't have "W1" in them? And then promoting stereo like another innovation.

Too much marketing and too little innovation. My phone should be waterproof by now, but instead Apple's promoting "splash resistant" as this huge milestone. I guess the A10 is a nice improvement.

Apple seems to be in a race this consumer doesn't understand. Faster, better but nothing really new. They cut a few seconds off their best time. Uh, cool? But I'm ready for the next game. Maybe I expect too much. But I'm not sure Apple is winning the race for my money this year.

No more $199, $299, $399 thanks to the extinction of subsidized contract prices. The day finally came.

Ok, I've been out of it for a couple of years. Are subsidized prices completely gone? My cell phone rates haven't really dropped to reflect this. If that's the case I'm not gonna be very happy.

I'm pretty let down at the lack of Apple Pencil support, so I'll probably be skipping this year's model.
Same. It's rather stupid that nothing smaller than a full-size iPad can use that thing. (Though I don't hear many people bemoaning it, so maybe it's a niche desire?)

From the photos, it doesn't look like you can charge while listening to headphones. If true, that's a pretty huge downside. The only option would be to spend more money on wireless headphones of some kind.
looks that way to me too- probably will have to wait for the 3rd party adapters that include charger!
