Ok I will use the absolute crap out of the phone mirroring. I keep my phone in another room while working and trying to concentrate but sometimes you need to do annoying things like respond to a Microsoft authenticator prompt and being able to just “pull up my phone on my laptop” will be great.
I could imagine that the authenticator use case in particular won’t work, especially when using something like Face ID.

No System Settings redesign?

And few other things that rumors assured us were coming. I don’t remember when did rumors miss on so many marks like this time.
Mac OS System Preferences/Settings. Did they bring it back with some common sense? Or, did Apple just be Apple with their insane arrogance and just ignore all of us users that cannot use the new design since Ventura? Has anyone checked out the latest OS Beta of Sequoia?

Face ID could (and should) work together with Touch ID so you can authenticate with your Mac.
Not really. The encrypted data is in a so called secure enclave on the device. Touch ID on your Mac should definitely have no way to access the secure enclave on your phone (and vice versa).

yeah I dont see this happening either. it will probably be pin/password driven experience and you can just paste it into the window.

I didn’t have time to find everything

you can start from control center
Qr code is an alternative

This is from 2yrs ago

yeah, that's better than it looked in their own documentation you sent before. Doesn't solve the biggest issue—you lose the ability to use other PC hardware. You're locked in if you want the features, but you don't get Apple's ecosystem, you have Huawei's, and I assume you hope Windows doesn't ever bork your connections.

of course, universal control was announced 4 years ago at wwdc, so I still think Apple wins this, but it's nice to see others doing it.

I have the feeling that Sequoia has some exclusive features, such as window snapping or iPhone mirroring or notifications integration, that are absent from iPadOS, and seem to be aimed at increasing the reasons for people to buy a Mac instead (or as well as) an iPad Pro.

I’d like to see continuity features across iPhone, iPad and Mac, not only between iPhone and Mac. And also the window snapping on Stage Manager on the iPad, not only on macOS.

WINDOW TILING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!
Long, long, long overdue. Thank goodness we’ve been able to at least somewhat emulate the Windows experience with 3rd party apps like Better Snap Tool, but I’m hoping native macOS window tiling is smoother, more robust, and more responsive the way it (mostly) works on Windows.

90% of my iPad is spent on youtube/netflix/sports. :D
and the other 10%?

Yeah but what about the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID? How does that work? It’s wireless and paired to my Mac, and I can authenticate just fine. There’s no reason that Touch ID in the keyboard cannot bind itself to the phone as well.

I let out a very loud “YES” at macOS getting not-Aero Snap

I know it was possible with third party utilities but it’s always been janky (especially if you use spaces)

Shame you can’t resize the windows and have the snapped layout adapt like in Windows 11… maybe next year
Never mind, it's actually a thing in macOS 15 (only for two apps side-by side but it's there)! I'm so happy

Oh and the iPhone mirroring stuff! Absolute peak
Can’t wait to stop reaching for my iPhone while it’s charging

The Magic Keyboard basically acts as a „remote“ fingerprint sensor for the secure enclave in your Mac. Theoretically, that could also be enabled for iPhones I guess. But the keyboard would then probably have to be paired to the iPhone, not the Mac.

Windows resize on Sequoia is exactly like Windows 11. Two up windows has a center link to allow resizing both windows together.

Seems like Apple has tried to make macOS just like Windows 11 interface for that.

Well that's why I bought a super expensive Mac Pro, to have a bigger screen for my phone? I seriously question who is driving innovation (or lack thereof). Such a well made computer that does goofy stuff. I have a heavy investment in this and it's like a bunch of nonsense. Ugh.
So why did you buy a super expensive Mac Pro?

I see three possible reasons here:
  1. distraction/false leads campaign to keep true feature announcements secret until The Big Reveal.
  2. leaker/NDA violator campaign, especially considering ChatGPT integrations
  3. WWDC keynote is about The Wow Factor. That One More Thing mantra. 105 minutes focused on big exciting things. A new layout for system menu options isn't exciting.
