You clearly don't understand (or don't want to understand) the "Gorilla Arm" syndrome. It is caused by reaching out toward a display that is a couple of FEET in front of you (like a desktop monitor) for extended periods of time.

When have you EVER seen this?

I agree. Apple's kind of inconsistent. To me, it would make so much sense to eliminate the audio jack on the new MBP, and replace the lightning connector os iOS devices with USB-C/TB 3.
yeah that was my thought. Apple is so set on making us buy all kinds of adapters just to do simple tasks because they know they'll make more money off of us.

View attachment 668492 oh the good old days when we had actual Macs. My aging 2011 iMac is likely my last mac unless I buy refurbished/used.
Um, Apple is still making the Mac Pros, iMac, Mac Mini, Macbook Pro, the Macbook Air, and now they have the retina macbook. Just because they didn't update all of them today (even though they should have), doesn't mean we don't have Macs to choose from.

Well... Prices are going up aren't they? They kept claiming "State of the Art", but isn't Skylake the last generation of processor? I was waiting for today before deciding. RazerBlade Stealth for me. It's going to be a long journey switching ecosystems, but I am tired of paying too much when there are so many other "newer" options.

I sampled the waters by upgrading my Time Capsule (with USB 2.0) to the latest and greatest Netgear router for less. So far so good. Speaking of which, the Airport Express is still being sold with 802.11N and USB 2.0? iPad Mini 2 - 802.11N. Airport Extreme - USB 2.0. They don't even tell you it's 2.0 on their product page. Mac Mini Haswell processor? Really?

I love Apple, but I've lost my patience. Was it just me or did most of the usual presenters look like they put on a little weight?

Not impressed, but not surprised, and not surprised that I'm not impressed. The touchbar looks worse than the mockups made it look, and still no touchscreen is just a fail out of the gate. I use my 13" Dell 2-in-1 with touch every day, and it makes a machine so versatile while still being an actual computer.

Here we instead have a 3x more expensive 13" machine with a rubbish keyboard (although it looks like maybe more travel than the 12" MB?), what looks like a very uncomfortable touch experience, and rather unimpressive battery life. The processors and GPU whatever, they're still integrated and can only do so much, unless I go for the now very ugly 15" and shell out $NZ6k. Nah. The 65" LG 4k OLED TV is the same price.

Very very cool that touch bar

The ironic thing is, the Mac trackpad works so well that it really doesn't need it.

Well thats fundamentally wrong. Up until now the trackpad, as great as it is at being a trackpad, has been medicore at best at replicating functions that are best done on an iOS device display. The TouchBar basically puts an multi-touch retina display on it as well, so that you can still touch and move things that are under your finger...as opposed to trying to mimic it with a trackpad under your hand and display on the screen.

I think this site is going down the tubes. It seems like competitors have flooded this forum with astro turfers so now the comment section is saturated with negativity. Scrolling through the comments you see tons of newbies chirping.

So let me get this right... not only did Apple not include a Lightning port (even if audio only) so that iPhone 7 users can make use of their jack-less new Lightning headphones, they also changed all the MBP's ports to USB 3.1.

Meaning, every single iPhone owner now needs to either buy a dongle or buy a new cable to connect their iPhone (any iPhone!) to an MBP.

Schiller sure glossed over that little issue. ;-)

I'm not sure what to make of the updated products, but I couldn't help but notice how unmotivated the presenters came across on stage. Maybe it was just me, but it seemed like they were not really into it. Either way, I'll likely sell my soul to the devil and order a loaded up 15-inch. I'm currently using the 12-inch and the keyboard sticks quite often. I was glad to hear the new models have an 'improved version' or the 'second generation' of the board.

I heard you like dongles so when you buy your new 2016 iPhone 7 and new 2016 MacBook Pro 15" you can spend another $40 on a dongle so you can seamlessly connect your new iPhone to your new MBP

Is it just me or is the space between the new hinge and the touch bar really awkwardly large on the 15"? Seems like they could've left the function keys and used that space for the touch bar.
???????????????????????????????????????????
80% of mac users use their computer for going to websites like facebook etc and email...none these changes will affect that use one bit.

So now with these overpriced lame things released let's discuss post Tim Cook era

Craig as the new CEO please!
If Craig gets CEO the entire macOS will mutate into one big Emoji. He will turn all unicode characters into emojis and people around the world will have to learn to read Craig's emoji letters... But he, it'll be fun, because we nothing better to do than stare at our eye candy Mac Icons sitting in a touchbar, all day...

This guy is obsessed with Emojis.

You are right, we have a few new things and bunch of outdated stuff to choose from. What a variety... and look at those prices!...

those are ALL outdated computers....and won't apple eventually make all of their computers touch bar with no ports? most likely.

I've been here for about 12 years total if we count from before I officially created my account in 2009. The negativity is real. This new Macbook Pro is garbage. They jacked the price up, slowed the CPU down on the base model, reduced battery life, and are charging $300 for a silly touch panel. I've bought from the ibook G4 then Macbook, then Air, then Pro but this is just utter garbage. They haven't updated their iMac, Mac Pro, or Mac Mini in YEARS. Who does that? Apple is going downhill.

$1,800 for the "lowest end" 13" MacBook Pro?

Am I the only one who thinks this is a ridiculous "starting price"?

When I bought the MacBook Pro I'm typing on now, -- 2010 13" base model -- it cost $1,050. Not cheap, but reasonable.

Historically, it seemed that Apple's policy regarding new MacBooks was to "add some features", but keep pricing relatively constant. Yes, prices crept up now and then, but still....

.... $1,800 just to get the base model 13" MacBook Pro?

I'll keep using my trusty 2010 model for now. It's still running fine with an upgraded SSD.
If it needs to be replaced, I'll pick up a 2015 MBPro from the Apple refurb store.
At least that's a laptop that will actually represent value for dollars spent...

You're not the only one no. I'm astonished by these prices.

About the RAM... let's keep in mind that RAM is becoming less and less important than it used to be. RAM is not doubling sooner as it used to be. Reason? SSD. The new MacBook Pro is capable of reading and writing at least blazing fast 2GB per second. RAM was created as a response to the limitations of HHD and now with SSD being extremely fast with access and transfer, the importance of RAM is much less emphasized than ever. It makes no sense to keep expanding RAM storage if the performance is not as significant as it used to be. 16GB is likley the provide the most bang for the buck and more than that, it just doesn't give you much added value.

Do not expect RAM to keep doubling quickly anymore. With upcoming 3DXPoint technology, the storage will be just as fast as RAM and they may reduce the RAM footprint as well.
