now I also need to carry a USB-C to USB adaptor as ALL of the hard drives and sticks are common USB.
First off, any devices that don't have a built-in USB-A connector can easily have their cables changed to USB-C to USB-A (well, USB-B, right?) cables. So there go those adapters. And USB-C to USB-A adapters are like $2 on Amazon, and are small enough to be swallowed without incident.

As for USB memory-sticks, there are many now with USB-A on one end and USB-C on the other; so there goes your last fake annoyance.

And as you pointed out yourself, anyone who has used a Mac Laptop for like, EVER, with an external display, has had to use one or another Display Adapter. So, meh.

So we now have 4K video ? But with only 16GB max of memory ( no improvement in 4 years now) it will be impossible to edit in Final Cut . A minimum of 32 or 64 is needed. And $ 1200 extra for 2TB ? 512 is only double what is in the IPhone. The touchbar is cool , but lack of memory and storage make it pointless for producers. Think I will try to make my late 2013 16G/1TB last until 2018.

How do we force shutdown when the virtual power button is unresponsive? On my current late-2011 MBP, I hold the actual, non-virtual power button for five seconds as a last resort. I really, really hope the new last resort isn't "drive fifty miles to the nearest Genius Bar during working hours".

Edit: just watched one of the "first look" videos and found out the power button on the right side of the touch bar is an actual button. That's good news, but I'm sad they didn't pair it with an actual escape key on the left side. :(

No SD card slot on a pro laptop? That's going to be extremely frustrating as a photographer!

Wide gamut screen, oh wait my dongle is playing up and I can't get my photos on the computer...

Really????
Man. That seems odd to me. So this must mean that all of our lightning cable stuff will be USB C on the other end by next year. So all the wall plugs and cables we've accumulated will need to bought, lost, bought again, lost and bought again????

Well, Apple would really like it if you started buying these:
http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0X2AM/A/usb-c-to-lightning-cable-1-m

The wall plugs and cables will continue to work fine for charging iOS devices plugged in to the wall, you just can't use the same cable to plug your phone into your laptop without an adapter. But yeah, it's going to be a little painful.

Looks like I'm gonna buy the previous gen MBP that I skipped over and then most likely never get another apple laptop, sad times.
This is a Pro device that is a big FU to a large number of pro users :(
I'm thinking I might do the same. Is there a big drop off in specs for the 15"? Adjacently, is there a big drop off on future-proofing for the 15"s? 13"s?

1. Good bye magsafe? Is this like the models that have moved away from backlit keyboards: If I wait 6 months the magsafe version will come out?
2. Sure, we only used the function keys for weird/rare things. I used the function keys for part of the keyboard shortcut for remove all hyperlinks. I have no idea how to remove all hyperlinks without that shortcut. I don't think this touch bar is going to let us dial into those hard-to-reach settings - it's just going to give us a new way to center text or take a screenshot which is actually harder and requires more movement and attention than the keyboard shortcuts we already know.

Maybe a good year to get a refurbished. Or a Chinese battery for my 2008 MB.

Obviously they raised the prices to make up for the fact that with USB-C, you don't have to buy ANY adapters from Apple, including the power supply. It's an open standard.

However there is a serious lack of innovation or catering to the small (compared to iPhone everything is small) but extremely profitable pro market. 16GB ram limit, no desktop Macs, etc.

If I learned anything over the years, it's to skip first iteration of newly overhauled/designed macbook pro. I will wait for next iteration of this model.
